Hi everyone we are starting 2025 with a lovely 3 part building painting. This townhouse restaurant is a lovely design with some great watercolour lessons hidden within. I have attached the finished piece as well as the reference photo. I thought both would be particularly helpful for anyone who doesn't love drawing.

Today is all about the drawing phase. Your secret weapon is a set square/right angle ruler.

It's also worth remembering that we edit out most of my mistakes so you can enjoy a smooth running tutorial but please don't be hard on yourself if you don't get it right first time. Just draw lightly and have a go. You have the references attached if you eventually find you'd rather trace but please do try as the character really lies in these paintings from being hand drawn with a little wobble!

You will need:

cold pressed watercolour paper a5/6x8 inch

hb pencil

set square

hard and soft eraser

Hi Beverly. we have the attachments for you to download and then have to hand wherever you need. I can't fit that on the screen while I'm filming and it allows people to use the attachment reference photos as they wish.

Newbie here, are we to paint this on our own or together on the 22nd?

Hi Debra, this is a watercolour challenge; a weekly filmed tutorial for you to paint whenever you like. The tutorials come out every wednesday and this is a 3 parter so for this lesson you are learning the drawing stage and then next week we start painting and in the final session you finish the painting. You can access these whenever you like, they don't go anywhere. x

Wonderful, thank you!

Can't wait to try this one! (And thanks for the reminder to not be too hard on ourselves if it doesn't work out first time - practise practise!)

Love this building! All sketched out and ready for part 2 ... I sure do appreciate the importance of a set square for next time!
