Hi everyone, I'm so excited to start this new landscape piece with you. This painting is inspired by Sugaring Season in Quebec. One of our Patrons Guylaine told me all about it and once I'd looked into it, it seemed like a fantastic topic for a painting. When researching a reference I found an image I initially thought was a photo but on closer inspection it's a computer generated image! So I've attached that along with a few other photos I found to give you an idea of the topic. you can also click this link to find out more about Sugaring Season and where Maple syrup comes from.

Check below for the attached reference photos under the 'attachments' heading.

You will need:

Cold pressed watercolour paper (I used 6x8 inches)

hb pencil

hard and soft eraser

Colours I used: Raw Umber, Paynes Grey, Burnt Sienna, Quinacridone Gold, Moonglow, French Ultramarine

Looking forward to this at some point! I'm working my way through the challenges from the beginning :-). Fun fact: I worked at a sugar bush here in Ontario when I was in my early 20s! I gave tours to schools. It was a lot of fun!

Oh ! Thank you Harriet… This is very representative of a sugar shack in Québec, I am very excited to begin this paint, hope that I will do a good job ❣️

This looks so fun! We're starting to collect sap here for syrup as well!

Love this, Harriet! I know it is supposed to be Quebec, but it also looks a lot like New Hampshire and Vermont in the New England region of the U.S. Another project to add to my elusive “someday” list!
