Hi Patrons, I was wondering if any of you get involved with daily painting challenges, and what you think of them? Please comment below using my below bullet points as prompts

What is the longest you've gone, doing a painting every day?

If there have been themes to these painting challenges, what have been your favourites?

Would you be happy with minimal prompts (i.e. 'paint a dog') or would you prefer a full demo/tutorial (step by step guide and a colour list).

If you like painting challenges, why? What does it bring to your day to day?

Do you like to learn through books or different media?

Do you like to buy books that have pages you can paint straight into?

THANK YOU! xx

• I'm following the watercolour challenges in this page, since May • I love still life and buildings • I would prefer demo/tutorial • Painting challenges help me to paint every day • I love books, but tutorials are better • No, I want to improve my sketching

Thank you! What I'm keen to know about is daily painting challenges, ones where you follow a prompt every day.

Teresa Moore

I love painting challenges. They encourage me to paint daily. I prefer a tutorial either a daily challenge, even a quick one.

Amanda Selvaratnam

i do the advent calender one so a month is the longest I have ever done, where you paint every day. I love the alphabet and mini flowers as its not daily and 3 times a week is easier to fit in but I still use it as a challenge as I try to keep up to date. I think the challenges help improve me as a painter as the more I practice the more I improve and so having to paint every day or so is good for me. I quite like the idea of a random word that you can interpret how you wish eg canine rather than dog, or happy, childhood, but I can understand why having a clear noun to paint may be preferable to some people. I use your books, youtube and occasionally live classes. I have bought books but in general the paper isn't great and the outline is often too strong so, thanks to your classes, I now try to do my own drawings

Thank you!

I love daily prompts! They keep me warmed up and inspired. Themes like the Advent calendar are wonderful, and I've enjoyed the alphabet one. I look forward to it every day; it's a routine I enjoy to start my day. I'm not sure a long video is necessary, just a short one (like a YouTube short) with colors delineated in the description would be fine for me as long as you keep doing the YouTube and Patreon work - love love love it all.

Bridget

Interesting. I have never tried a daily prompt, but sharing some thoughts in case it's helpful in your research? Here's what I would be most inclined to like: *Maybe a 30 day daily prompt challenge. I'm open to themes, but maybe something that encourages the artist to start with day 1 image and add to the composition daily throughout the challenge. *One prompt a day with suggestive prompts like "paint a winter bird using 3 colors" or other suggested details, Day 2 create an area for your bird to visit (birdhouse, tree, flower ... could be anything) - so minimal prompts, just more composition direction. *I would like that style because it would encourage daily painting, creativity and learning more about effectively creating compositions. *I learn a bit through books, but also enjoy video. *For some reason I never like books with blank pages to paint on. Seems a waste for some reason? Anyway, hope that helps :) .

I watch one or more of your videos everyday, usually while I walk on the treadmill. I paint with you about 3xs or more a week. I found what helped me with frequent painting was to put a “Mobil painting station” together on a tray. Then I can just plop it down on a table to begin as I can’t leave my paints set up all the time. Tips on that would be helpful. Right now I’m working on the alphabet which has been a huge learning experience for me, but I’ve also painted other things from your extensive catalog. Yesterday I did the mini rose bouquet as a birthday card. I prefer a full tutorial, I love the painting challenges, I always watch them, but I haven’t tried to complete one yet. I have several of your books, which I refer to, but I lean heavily on your patron and YouTube channel. I would not like directly into paint a book. Your minis are very accessible, quite a brilliant idea, really. One of my goals is to take a mini into a more detailed painting, sort of like what you do in your New Botanical book.

Jennifer Wrightington

I appreciate daily prompts too but I get overwhelmed quick I prefer the 1-3 part series

Tamra Pearson

I have participated in daily challenges. Most have been based on one word each day. I find them to be inspiring as I think about how I will interpret the word and they are a great way to warm up each day. Sometimes the small daily challenge can grow into a larger study. I use them as a quick, fun warm up. It’s also great to see how others used the prompts in their creations. I love tutorials. I like books, but the tutorials are my go to.

Tiffany

-3 weeks was my longest challenge -the one I did in the beginning was of full tutorials.. every one was learning a new technique and was a different theme. - I love that they were all over the place. Sometimes it was a single object and other times it was a landscape or animal. -my favorite themes were flowers, beach or sea creatures, landscapes, and birds! -I am about to start one that has minimal prompts.. and I’m excited to do so. Maybe a couple different reference photos would be helpful… or a basic sketch. -I do like the ones with the tutorials/color list/brush list.. that is how I have to been trying to learn how to paint. I also have gone back to my challenge pictures and redone some of them now that I have been painting for 4 months so I can see my progress. I rewatch the videos too. -I look forward to them because it’s a new challenge and a way for me to push my new skills. Especially on the days I only have 15 minutes to spare, I like to have something structured to paint or learn for the day. -I really love the video tutorials, but I also love tutorials in books. Sometimes when I want to watch tv with my Husband and not be stuck to my desk, it’s nice to have the book so I can just go at my own pace and not have the added noise. When I’m able to devote complete brain power to painting.. I love the videos. -I do not like the books you paint into. Sometimes I want to do the painting a couple of times, and can’t with those books. Also, the paper is never that great, so I feel like I’m not learning the same way.

Jayne

I love the idea of daily painting challenges but often fail to stick to them, for the Watercolour advent calendar I usually go about a week before losing ground and playing catch up later. I like the a different subject each time as it forces me to try something new otherwise I would probably stick to just flowers! I seem to do better with a timeline like the Watercolour alphabet where you release them 2-3 times a week. I do follow another artist who is doing 100 tiny paintings, this is working well for me though they are not daily, they are 2-3 times a week. Different topic and techniques to learn every time from fruit to scenery. I prefer a full tutorial and videos work best for me. Prefer not to paint directly into a book but practice on separate paper. Hope that helps!

cindy shupe

I LOVE full tutorials, I find when I just ‘sit down to paint’ I become overwhelmed and end up just doodling or doing nothing. When I follow a full tutorial it ends up making me more creative. I go on to paint other things. I love your style, love your work and love learning from you, I’ve been doing the mini flower tutorials and have been having so much fun sitting down for those short bursts of painting bliss! I have your books and have painted almost every prompt in those. I love having the guidance 👩🏼‍🎨

Patricia Danielson

I’ve never been able to paint daily until your daily prompts. I have done all the mini flowers and alphabet since they started. Love them. Though sometimes I skip a day. Probably 4-5 days a week. I love botanicals, birds, still life’s and landscapes. I haven’t gotten the knack of painting in books, but I do like using them as guides. I’ve been inspired by the challenges, but have completed any yet though they are still on my to do list as options. Spring turns me to flowers. Whatever is seasonal around me seems to get my flow going. I’d like some sort of daily prompt that focuses on building skills using different stokes and brushes.

Alison Gammon

I haven't really tried a daily painting challenge, in the past doing the advent calendars, I have ended up catching up after work unreasonably intrudes! I like a full tutorial as I feel I really learn something then, and I have tried a sketchbook with just prompts, but tutorials are better. I do learn though books and I have got the RHS books of line drawings of botanical art you paint straight into, but I have just copied the drawing onto separate paper. They don't tend to come with much instruction. I think I am most motivated to paint things that can be used (eg cards or bookmarks) or form a cohesive whole like the advent calendars and the mini watercolours. So a workbook that you fill in each day would appeal. In terms of themes, I wouldn't be bothered about cats, but I would give most other things a try, its good to be challenged! Thank you!

Becky Cruise

What is the longest you've gone, doing a painting every day? 2 weeks, But I love the motivation that it gives me and while I might not finish the challenge on time, I still like to finish on my own If there have been themes to these painting challenges, what have been your favourites? I like things that teach me new techniques as I go Would you be happy with minimal prompts (i.e. 'paint a dog') or would you prefer a full demo/tutorial (step by step guide and a colour list). I like step by step If you like painting challenges, why? They motivate me What does it bring to your day to day? inspiration and excitement Do you like to learn through books or different media? I like books and visual media Do you like to buy books that have pages you can paint straight into? Yes,

Bec Fowler

I’m not able to paint everyday - which is one of the reasons I loved your mini florals - I pick them up as often as I can and work through the series. I’m doing another artists ‘100 mini paintings in a year’ series and loving that as well. But again I pick them up as I’m able and work through them. Small regular projects are definitely wonderful ways to improve quickly and get a sense of achievement. Though I do also love your ones that go over several parts and try to do those as well.

Christina Noel

I haven’t had the focus to do the current daily paint challenges. I have done the Christmas daily advent calendar a few years which is enjoyable and seasonal. I have often used your books to create paintings of insects, birds, and flowers. And those tend to surprise me on how much I enjoy the process and outcome. And like the ability to sit down for an hour or so and create something new. I also like looking thought your tutorials on YouTube to find something that hits my mood or a challenge for the week. I like weekend mornings to sit down and paint.

Jude

What is the longest you've gone, doing a painting every day? 3 years (maybe missing a few days in that time If there have been themes to these painting challenges, what have been your favourites? I only painted subjects I relate to - if I disliked subject, I paint something else I prefer or a tutorial. Would you be happy with minimal prompts (i.e. 'paint a dog') or would you prefer a full demo/tutorial (step by step guide and a colour list). I like simple tutes, say 20 to 30 mins - 'paint a dog' would not work for me. If you like painting challenges, why? What does it bring to your day to day? Not challenges as in, a mountain to climb, just ensuring I have a portion of my day involving me enjoying paying is what I like. Do you like to learn through books or different media? I prefer videos - short or long -books I struggle with a bit. Do you like to buy books that have pages you can paint straight into? NO! :)

Jessica Schwarz

I usually don’t paint every day. I have phases in which I paint often, but my mind set has to be just so and that doesn’t come along often enough… I get much better results if I can follow a tutorial or a book with tutorials than just a suggestion. I tend to get stuck and am so not happy with the results. Apart from your reverse water colour book I haven’t had a book to paint in but I had various books for calligraphy and they were so not fun to write in because the paper quality was just too bad so everything leaked. So a book would have to have very good quality which would make it very expensive… I like my watercolour pads just fine!

CynthiaJQ

I love the daily painting challenges. The floral alphabet is stunning and almost complete. I find it keeps my paintbrush moving each day...even if only for 10 minutes and the final picture will be gorgeous! The advent calendar is another huge winner! Your full tutorials guarantee a good outcome, therefore my preference. I have books, but hardly ever refer to them for instruction. I would love to see a food alphabet for my kitchen wall! Purchasing your already drawn alphabet makes the daily exercises so easy and enjoyable!

Melanie E Gideon

I would love a daily painting challenge. And I’d prefer it without a tutorial because I’m interested in developing my own composition and color mixing skills. I love learning through books, but any book I’ve seen that has pages for painting uses paper that’s not the greatest, so for me it’s a waist of space. (I absolutely love your books!) Thanks for what you do. Your tutorials have really helped me.

Leah

I have participated in several month-long painting challenges focused on birds. The bird names are given at the start of the month and I just need to find a picture of the bird and start painting or sketching. I like this because sometimes at the end of the day I know I want to paint or create something, but I'm overwhelmed with selecting a tutorial (decision fatigue). I have a specific sketchbook and palette just for painting birds. I feel confident enough in my skills now that I can do a full bird sketch without a tutorial in about 15 minutes and I know I can fit that in! It's also good because I can practice the same subject over and over (helping with repetition and learning bird anatomy, etc) but with a different bird in a different pose, etc. I prefer having video tutorials over books as it is very helpful for me to see brushstrokes and how much water is on the paper, and other things that aren't always written in tutorials. Now that my skills are higher I feel more confident following a written tutorial with step by step pictures and not getting confused! I should also add that these monthly bird sketching challenges were the first "paintings" I did myself directly from a reference and not following a tutorial or lesson, which was very important for me to gain confidence in branching out from just following tutorials!

Anna Chavez

I like the idea of participating in a paint challenge. although I’ve seen many being offered., I have not participated in any. My hesitation is that I will start the challenge but not continue with it. This may be my own personal feelings of not feeling connected to the community.. I do like the idea of having a daily prompt with a recommended color palette that I can base my painting off of and possibly keep with it or make it my own. The prompt versus tutorial challenges me to figure out my own sketch versus “copying” someone else’s. I hope this helps. Have a great day Harriot!

Susan Hammitt

I have done daily for a month. I do buy some books, but not a lot. Different food especially desserts was my favorite. Full demo's are great because I am still such a beginner. Painting challenges helps me to get better.

Susan Hammitt

I also use your books to work through and do your projects when I can't think of something else.

Sally Cotton

I haven't started on daily challenges as I'm happily working my way through all the early weekly ones (complete beginner, so I'm learning lots) I personally like the full demo/step by step and colour list as I'm unsure of myself and my ability (if there were no demos I would have probably given up by now) I try and paint at least 3x a week, sometimes daily. And I am loving the houses , landscape and seascape tutorials!

Holly Geary Brooks

I joined a 90-day painting challenge earlier this year, via a watercolor artist on Instagram. Each week she set a different theme... we painted whatever we wanted within the theme and shared daily in a private IG group chat. Some weeks were very challenging, and the themes varied, but overall, it was VERY fun! She would recommend artists to watch on Skillshare for tutorials based on the theme, for anyone needing inspiration or guidance each week. She would also do one video tutorial each week and post it on her Patreon. I really liked the idea of having to figure it out for yourself and rely on your own creativity.

Martha Bridges

I don't always have time for daily challenges, but I usually watch the tutorial and learn from the process. I get inspiration from them. I loke step by step tutorials with color mixing shown because I don't seem to have knack for that yet, though, by the examples seen, I'm getting better. I have books that I can paint directly into, and have done that. I have learned so much from you, Harriett. You were the first artist I followed! I don't have your gift, but I'm using the gift I do have to create some nice greeting cards, and that makes me happy.

Teresa Collard

What is the longest you've gone, doing a painting every day? I paint every day (1500 plus days now). However, I have only engaged in painting challenges that were numbered (i.e.10 challenges or 100) not daily challenges. I am currently painting with a 100 Tiny Paintings Challenge. It is a year long. The instructor is in the 40s of 100 with the project. I am in the early 30s/ of 100. I don't try to keep up. I paint at will. These are all video tutorials. They range about 30 minutes. I like the shorter ones best. Around 15 minutes is my favorite length. I am also painting a workbook challenge. The instructor has just finished it. It had about 30-32 painting spreads in it. I lack about 10 spreads. It is also made up of video tutorials. Although, your daily Christmas calendar is nice. I am not sure if I think of it as a challenge or not. If there have been themes to these painting challenges, what have been your favourites? The ones that I paint are rarely thematic. However, I love the ones that are brief. I do these just to warm up or practice techniques. I love nature, blooms, birds, etc. Would you be happy with minimal prompts (i.e. 'paint a dog') or would you prefer a full demo/tutorial (step by step guide and a colour list). I like the demo videos as I can use them as a guide. It doesn't need to have loads of guidelines and lists. Most of the ones I follow have used limited palettes, but I just use the paints I have for the most part. If you like painting challenges, why? What does it bring to your day to day?Do you like to learn through books or different media?Do you like to buy books that have pages you can paint straight into? I like painting challenges as they shake up my routines. I look forward to them, but I rarely paint them in step with the release. I do use books and videos (my favorite). As for books with the painting paper inside. I am not a great fan. I prefer to use my own paper and supplies. I have become spoiled by nice paper. Good luck. I hope this helps.

Betsi

And, I just want to add a big thank you to you Harriet, for sharing your talents, your creativity, your clever ideas and your love of painting. You have helped me in many ways!

Laura Rumble

I have never attempted a 100 day challenge as I have always failed miserably at 30 day challenges! I love to follow along watching, liking and seeing other people's art but I have come to the conclusion that they are just not something I can do.

Sophie

I don’t have enough time to paint daily, weekly is already a struggle and I am already two challenges behind 🤪

Sophie

But I also wanted to say you are the best teacher ever, you always surprise us, everything is always different and we always learn. Thank you so much Harriet 🙏🏼

Karma Kauffman

I have participated in a few daily challenges and enjoyed them. I think the longest I’ve painted daily would have been one of your Advent calendars and I painted daily for a couple of weeks. I finished the calendar in the 24 days, but had to double up paintings a few times. I love the creative inspiration I get from these challenges and prefer to have video demonstrations on how to paint whatever the subject is. I like a mix of subjects - everything from landscapes to still life to simple brush stroke exercises. The point, for me, is to sit down at my table and put brush to paper, otherwise I get nervous about messing up, wasting paper, etc.. I generally don’t like painting in a book as the paper isn’t thick enough and, probably more importantly, it feels like too much pressure to make the painting ‘perfect.’ Honestly, I’ve been the most consistent learning from YouTube. I’ve tried some other online courses, but my favorite teachers have been from YT.

Erin Berlin

1. Ive never really paid attention to how many days in a row Ive painted, but easily over a month. 2. I love buildings for painting challenges, and SOME plants. I absolutely don't love picnic scenes or scenes that the colors kind of "mud up" because they are monotone/tones that are very similar. 3. I like videos with challenges - more than just a simple promp. 4. I do enjoy most of your painting challenges. I like being challenged here and there and especially like having a reason to step out of my comfort zone (other than monotone themes. haha) 5. I have some watercolor books, but am more of a visual learner rather than read and learn as far as art goes. I do both, but really prefer a video. 6. I prefer books that pages for painting are removable or even just traceable images so the book can remain intact. :)

Anna Bray

1. I would love to paint every day but have never managed it! I find it works better for me if I don't put too much pressure on myself to paint everyday and instead try to do it regularlyish. The only tutorial I've managed to do in real time was le vin perdu - one tutorial a week was perfect and I was really looking forward to the next one rather than rushing to keep up. I did manage a daily sketchbook for a very short while. 2. I enjoyed the early tutorials aimed at building up foundational skills (eg shadows, different techniques for trees). Maybe bitesized achievable exercises for a daily challenge like colour mixing or brush strokes, like Karma suggested. Something I want to start doing is plein air painting, so perhaps a daily challenge around that. (On a side note I am really enjoying all the buildings tutorials and can't wait to try the wedding venue! Also looking forward to the new colour mixing ones). 3. A mixture of prompts and demos I think. I love the demos and learn a lot but I also appreciate it when you stretch us to have a go without copying you! 4. To help me build a consistent habit. 5. I have two of your books and I love them. I find it so nice to have something analogue from time to time as constant digital resources can get overwhelming. But that said, I do think I learn better from your tutorials as I can see how you are doing it. 6. Yes, I think I'd like a book you can paint straight into, it would be a lovely thing to take on holiday. I have a drawing practice book with pages to draw on and I enjoy that. Thank you for teaching us all to paint! xxx

Rosalyn Solinger

I’m kind of a style hopper. Right now into zentangle and I have a large colored pencil flower piece in process and a graphite drawing of one of my grand dogs but I am sitting down today to do one of your mini flower paintings. I would feel too pressured to think of a daily painting challenge. I have enjoyed your Patreon architectural paintings.

Angela D’Antonio

What is the longest you've gone, doing a painting every day? about three days! If there have been themes to these painting challenges, what have been your favourites? the only one i've tried had no theme and i am not sure if that was more challenging than having a theme or not! Would you be happy with minimal prompts (i.e. 'paint a dog') or would you prefer a full demo/tutorial (step by step guide and a colour list). I do like the minimal prompt idea as it would be fun to see all the different creative interpretations If you like painting challenges, why? What does it bring to your day to day? I need to really try one again to get a good idea of what I like about a painting challenge. The one I tried was stressful Do you like to learn through books or different media? I like to learn both through books and through tutorials. Have not been to an actual live painting class but I think I would enjoy that as well Do you like to buy books that have pages you can paint straight into? Yes

What is the longest you've gone, doing a painting every day? 1.5 hours If there have been themes to these painting challenges, what have been your favourites? landscapes or still lives Would you be happy with minimal prompts (i.e. 'paint a dog') or would you prefer a full demo/tutorial (step by step guide and a colour list). I am new to painting so can get pretty intimidated by doing something with minimal prompt. If you like painting challenges, why? What does it bring to your day to day? not sure Do you like to learn through books or different media? both Do you like to buy books that have pages you can paint straight into? I prefer panting in my sketchbook and keeping books as references. Unless it is meant to be a prompt sketchbook, like my draw every day book where I have 365 prompts to sketch in the book itself.

Kristin

Hi Harriet, * the only daily painting challenge I have done is the advent calendar. That seemed like a good length but I could go a little longer too. *I prefer a tutorial to just a prompt at this point in my development. *I like that a challenge brings me to my painting table everyday to get me started. *still learning through tutorials, but am open to trying books.

Lilias

Although I’d love to paint every day it’s just not possible at the moment so I try where I can to do something at the weekend. Roll on retirement ! I never thought I’d say this but I love the building challenges, or ones where there’s a plant/tree in front of a window with shadow. I love most other things and will give them all a try but buildings - old/new/cozy/quaint I love. I like a bit of both tbh - I like your in-depth tutorials but I do like it when the screen cuts and you come back later when more of it’s finished leaving us to fill in the rest ourselves before moving into the next part of the tutorial. I do struggle with the hangout and talk myself out of doing them most months - need to build that confidence and just have a go! I love the challenges - and love the huge diversity of what we paint. I prefer to wait until there’s a couple of sessions rather than do them week at a time - my time pressure. I like that you can go into more depth and detail discussing the different techniques and seeing the painting build over time. I do have books and try to paint from them but like the feeling of painting in a lesson and seing it done in front of me before I do it myself - confidence again I think. No - prefer to create something rather than have something pre-drawn. Thanks for all you do ❤️ Do you like to learn through books or different media? Do you like to buy books that have pages you can paint straight into?

Cheryl P

Hi, Harriet.

Cheryl P

The longest I paint is 30 minutes about 3xweek

Tracy Abraham

I only took up painting at Christmas but I try to paint most days. I’m absolutely loving the combo of your floral alphabet and your mini flowers on Patreon. I do test versions during the week and then on the weekend I paint all three on the floral alphabet template for real. I love the style of the floral alphabet. I know others have mentioned your advent calendar but I’m Jewish so that’s less exciting for me. Any other daily mini would be great. I find them hugely absorbing. I find it gives me ten or fifteen minutes to look forward to at the end of the working day that’s all about ME I don’t mind books like your first one but I find YouTube best. When I started I thought I’d like the painting in books but when I realised I could do it freehand I returned them all.

Jan Richards

I did a challenge with a friend a couple years ago…we pledged to do a small painting every day for 100 days. We had no specific theme…we just painted what we wanted. When I was stuck, I’d Google painting prompts and browse til I found one I liked. They’re on my Instagram beginning Feb 22, 2023. My name is jan12218 if you want to take a look.

Debra

I love this idea! I paint everyday so this would help me a lot ❤️❤️❤️

Sue Ellis

I’ve not done a daily painting challenge (yet). I’m a novice to watercolour. I would be interested in cats. Landscape. Coastal scenery. I am enjoying the alphabet. It would have been nice, possibly to have a choice for example, hyacinths instead of hydrangeas. 😊 I like the tutorials with the paints and brushes listed below. I would like a daily challenge. It would help keep me motivated. Something to look forward to. Ooh a book or pad to work on might help with that. I like to watch and learn. I also like to have materials I can make reference to. Thank you Harriet. 😊

Debbie Sheehan

I don't paint everyday. However, I do like your challenges and will try them if I like the image. I like demos and tutorials. I have many books on watercolor, but nothing is as good as a de Winton tutorial ! I prefer to paint on Arches, so I can frame what I like. Some folks sell books with light images on the alternating pages so you can paint against something finished. Somehow I feel that's like a coloring book for watercolorists and I don't like it.

Beth

Hi Harriet! This is my 11th month of painting, and I really try to paint every day, using your advent calendar, your mini floral tutorials on weekdays, and your longer tutorials on weekends. I also try other YouTubers who have 100 painting challenges or mini painting exercises, but you are far and away my favorite! Probably because florals and Christmas are two of my favorite things…dogs are a third! I prefer a fuller tutorial because I love when you chat with us…it helps me pick up tips and makes me feel a bit of a community vibe, like I’m in your painting class (even if I can’t quite afford airfare from the states to Portugal this summer!!! ) Your painting tutorials bring me some creative “me time” with that bit of community feeling you convey. I’ve bought some books and borrowed some from my library but it’s super helpful to watch your brush techniques or your paint mixing in real time via YouTube. And I feel too intimidated to paint into real books….I prefer paper. Thank you, Harriet….you have brought so much joy into my life!!

Anne-Marie Serpaud

Hello Harriet, I personally don't take the time to paint every day, so I only paint on weekends if I have the time. That's why I like to practice watercolors through detailed tutorials. I buy books with descriptions of the models, but I haven't purchased any "ready-to-paint" books.

Sharmon A Youngblood

I used to paint everyday but recently I have been discouraged and unmotivated, although today I woke up and felt like giving painting a go. I have lately been working on the alphabet which I am pleased with, if you don’t look too close. I like the idea of a daily challenge. I don’t know if I would attempt each one but I certainly would watch. I love watching you paint and am so envious of your talent. I’m afraid I’m not secure enough to just “paint a dog.” I like a step by step guide, with colors and brushes! I do like a book that I can paint straight on. I bought one recently and enjoyed painting in it. I think you do an excellent job, and I’ve learned so much from you. Carry on!

Judy Indorf

Hi Harriet :) Books? I've bought a lot....But where I really learn is watching you paint. I'm in love with you and U tube because I can't stop the program and paint, or back it up and watch it again...and again...and again.

Kristin

More thoughts: I think it would be fun to paint a series of sea creatures since there is such a great variety.

Kathryn Chandler

I have absolutely loved the watercolour floral alphabet . I’m pleased it is finishing as I can t wait see the final piece of work . I am also sad it’s coming to an end as it has been brilliant . Please. Please can we have another similar project - maybe birds ? I look forward to hearing what you have up your sleeve . Thank you x

Zena Gani

Hi Harriet 1. I can go for weeks without picking up a brush. I am now trying to be more proactive by painting most days when I can. I do lots of other activities - I wont list them all. 2. I am enjoying the mini flower tutorials haven't started the Alphabet Art. Though challenging I enjoyed the Christmas Advent calendar. I don't join the hangouts because I am not good enough and I am terribly slow at painting - I am a real procrastinator. 3. I would attempt a painting with minimal prompts ( takes me out of my comfort zone) I think I paint what is comfortable for me. I won't attempt complicated projects. 4. I have attempted a few of the challenges and enjoy the process (colour mixing, textures, glazing, perspective, layout) rather than the finished project. My drawing skills have improved more than my painting skills ;-). .5. I don't have many art books - I have yours and look at those for ideas, colour mixing, step by step instructions and for reference. I am thinking of buying Paul Riley's Flower painting. You Tube is my go to- I like to see how other artists are painting-loose watercolour, brush strokes, because mine is rubbish, approach to painting. 6. No, I haven't really thought about it and haven't tried it. I prefer loose water colour paper. This reads like an essay. I wasn't sure whether you wanted a response to every bullet point. Hope this makes sense and its not too vague.

I don't paint every day although I would like to. I just joined Patreon so am looking forward to painting the minature flowers. I really enjoyed the flower alphabet as it was a short amount of time spread to 3 days a week. I just joined Patreon so I'm new to the challenges. They all look wonderful. I tend not to do buildings though as I have not figured out perspective yet. As I'm a beginner, I enjoy the full tutorials with colors and brush sizes. I have 2 of your books. I have tried 3 projects from these. I find I do better with videos rather than the books. I have not tried any of the pages where there are outlines for you to paint. I would have to try those. I enjoy trying to draw before I paint right now.
