Hi everyone, I foolishly thought I would get a bit of time to recover from my second Scotland retreat this week. That was quickly turned upside down when I received an email from Bloomberg News (while still in Scotland) to see if I would be interviewed about my experience as a small business in the UK! Of course I said YES but that meant a camera crew at the house all day on Monday - when we usually film all our content for the week. The experience was amazing but had me playing catch up for the rest of the week, trying to launch Christmas products, restock books and stay afloat with the rest of my workload. Which is funny because a lot of these photos are off the lovely non work things I did this week. I might just have a time machine as I cant believe I did it all while also feeling a bit rundown!

Here is Eugen, filming out the door of our studio to get the perfect shot for Bloomberg news!

I had to 'do some painting' for B roll footage so I painted this carnation!

We enjoyed a watercolour hang out this week with lots of new faces, hooray! We had great fun tackling this challenging piece but the great thing about the watercolour hang out is you've already won by just turning up! Painting for the process and not fixating on a finished piece is such an important part of creative development. I hope you enjoy the chats too! I'm looking forward to seeing you all in October. If you've not felt brave enough to come to one before, why not try it. You can have your video off and be on mute and just soak it all in. (the recording is also available on Patreon) x

I had to get a quick photo of the famous Foliage Cafe - that we all painted in the Watercolour challenge last year - on my visit to Bristol this Saturday. I was stuck behind a bit of scaffolding over the road. It was bustling and busy, looking just like our paintings!

I was in Bristol to celebrate my friend's birthday and we went to a cute little private screening of Practical Magic at 20th Century Flicks - a vintage video rental store that has little cinema rooms to rent. It was a perfect Autumn activity - strong recommend to any Bristolian patrons.

I came home to a mountain of apples. Today has been a lot of chopping, coring, peeling, juicing, baking, freezing, ANYTHING to get these apples used up!

I need some help with what to do with this massive bottle of cloudy apple juice we made. It is SO TART! I dont really want to add a load of sugar to make it a palatable juice. What else I can I do with it? Comments below please!

October is full of fun little tutorials on social media (I feel like I was painting these forever this week), keep an eye out for fun autumn postcards and more technique tutorials on Instagram, Facebook and Youtube shorts in October.

This week on Youtube

I'm alternating one halloween and one autumn project on Youtube each week in October. First up is a simple haunted house moon design and a gorgeous autumn flower arrangement.

We have a brand new watercolour challenge, as requested by you: A Scottish Castle reflected in a loch. This is Castle Kilchurn on Loch Awe. The project is in two parts. Sign up to the Sweet Pea tier to have a go at this!

You could use the juice for a simmer pot. I have one on the stove right now with orange, lemon and apple slices, cinnamon, cloves and lavender seeds. Makes the whole house smell delicious. Very fall!

Alison Gammon

Could you use some of it instead of cider in a casserole? Delia Smith does a nice one with sausages and bacon braised in cider and apples. Lovely with mashed potatoes!

Kelly Hoche

You could also use it instead of water or broth to make a pork roast or tenderloin in the oven or crockpot. I'm sure it would work with chicken as well. Maybe add apple slices and some sage or rosemary to it for either type of meat. (I'm hungry now, lol)

All of it is adorable, whimsical and joyful! I am thanking God for your creativity... My husband and talk often of truth beauty and goodness and this expresses that (all your craft) beautiful aspect of being a creative person gifted by God Himself. Please don't stop, you are helping us to find our own truth, beauty and goodness in creation.

Loving the kilchurn castle project. I went on a Roadtrip around Scotland with my dad a few years ago and this was one of the stops. Definitely on my list to paint!

You could pour it into an ice cube tray and freeze it in little cubes, then put the cubes in a freezer baggie. They’ll last a long time and you can pull a couple out when you want to add a bit of apple flavor to anything!!

Sophie

You could use your apple juice in casseroles or maybe turn it into a sorbet (that would mean adding some sugar of course)

And I also love the new « Scottish challenge » although I know it will be a HUGE challenge to me !

It's exhausting and exciting reading your weekly updates. 😁 you are becoming very famous 👌👏 Do love all your paintings coming up. We have apple trees we also made jam, dried apple, multiple pies and frozen stewed fruit or pulp. Try adding a little honey or maple syrup and spices to you juice. If that fails just add alcohol 🍸 🤣 🤪

Erin Berlin

Love everything! You gotta make Apple Butter with some of those apples! It s amazing on toast, pork chips, anything youd est applesauce with, AND if you use it as you would cheese in a grilled cheese sandwich it is out of this world. (Buttered bread, Apple butter + frying pan.)

Gigi

I think Apple butter too! You can make it in a very slow oven or slow cooker so you can paint while it’s thickening!

A lot of lovely projects this month! I'm looking forward to all of them, especially the Scottish castle reflected in a loch. The apple juice is used in apple and carrot cakes — maybe you can look up some recipes. Have a great day, everyone!

Sharon Rowe

You could also slowly reduce the juice into a syrup for your pancakes or other apple puddings. Yummy! Big congrats on the Bloomberg News piece! 🏆

Mary Kay

Love love the third painting. Wishing for a tutorial.

I boil it down and use it in apple pies. Boiled cider is very expensive, make your own.
