Hi everyone, it's time for you to submit your suggestions for February's You Choose Youtube feature by commenting below.

Although the title of this post mentions Youtube, this is also relevant for choosing topics to paint on Patreon and on my Social Media reels. I try to include at least 4 of your suggestions for the month. Before commenting please read the bullet points below:

Results will be posted in the February bulletin which is published at the start of the new month

First check on my Youtube channel if your suggestion has already been covered.

I am more likely to choose seasonal ideas.

Oh oh ohh!!! Can we do something in the style of a medieval manuscript? Like a duck with human teeth, or a cat with a human face? Or a medieval skeleton that’s just happy to be here?

Amanda Selvaratnam

I’d like to try a botanical painting less loose and more close to life. Not sure I’m describing it right and I know there’s plenty of help in Harriet’s books but it would be lovely to do a class where we learn together how to do an accurate depiction of a leaf or a flower or both

Vicky Watts

I have been studying and painting Lichens all month as part of a watercolour phenology project. I would love to see how you render Lichens in your new botanical style. Particularly the minty blue ones that look like corals, or a fallen twig with a whole bunch of different types attached?

Marie

Bonsai trees and a Japanese style garden.

Erin Berlin

I'm voting for the skeleton .;) ROFL

Erin Berlin

Mushrooms in a whimsical mossy forest scene.

Nicola Archbold

I’d love to paint a Bullfinch. The male birds look so colourful and it always cheers me up to see them in winter

Tracy Abraham

This is a really random request but your paintings are always ‘perfect’. I’d love to see some of the outtakes where you weren’t happy and why. There is so much to learn when things go wrong and knowing it happens to everyone and what to do to fix things would be really powerful

Tracy Abraham

I’d also love another series of the flower alphabet this year and mini flower tutorials

Nicola Archbold

Also I enjoyed the American pancakes last year for pancake day. As shrove Tuesday is on 17th feb I’d love to see Crepes in your style as I’m loving the food illustrations

Ann

A badger in a sett. Jack Russell. Spring flowers.

Sylvia

cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows, cozy armchair in front of roaring fire in fireplace

Susan Ing

https://amzn.eu/d/5O0hWDz I love this idea. I've tried to paint a few myself. I'd recommend this book for inspiration. There is also a similar book on medieval cats too.

As it's the winter Olympics this month perhaps painting some of the sports such as curling or ice skating?

Jacqueline Bauer

Do you ever paint abstract paintings? I have never really tried. Those are some of my mistakes may seem like abstracts..😂 After having so much ice here in the United States.. up close icicles hanging off a roof,, any roof, barn, home, trees, or even a dog house roof. Perhaps hints of spring poking through the snow. I look forward to whatever is chosen.

Jenny

Silly me! How about a toasted tea cake!

Debbie V

Birds birds birds from easy or abstract to detailed, on branches, in nests, in flight, on wires, anywhere! And I also love the quarterly seasonal pieces we painted in 2024 that were a compilation of plants and animals a new version of those would be splendid!

Kristin

Would love an animal alphabet!

Sarah Pace

I’d love to learn to paint little woodland fairies! I’m throwing a “fairy” themed birthday party for my daughter later this year and would love to give her a painting as a surprise!

Thais Nunes de Arruda

I'd like to see two macaws on a branch? It's almost a valentine theme, although a little bit tropical 🤭

Beth

So many wonderful ideas below! Following up on your palette series and color swatching, perhaps another painting using different values of one color. A topiary all in green , or something—a bird, a valentine, some wellies—all in purple.

Anne Ridley

A roast chicken dinner! My favourite meal.

Krithiga Gopalan

A two horses running in the mountains with a heart in the middle of them

Sue

In your book “A Year of Watercolor”, there is an owl painting. I would love a tutorial detailing further how to paint it.

Kathleen

It’s the beginning of baseball season and Arizona is going to be set upon by visitors to spring training! Maybe a Norman Rockwell style baseball painting!? Or any sport really. I have 3 grandsons who aren’t feeling all my floral energy!!

Uta

A cheeky little circus monkey or spring flowers planted in tea cups

Dee R

Snowflakes or a Christmas cactus (mine is blooming right now). They bloom when the daylight is at a certain short level. The flowers are so delicate.

Roby

A landscape with trees still bare of leaves, but where the first spring buds can already be glimpsed.

de Winton Paper co.

the best thing to start that is to look at life drawing teachers on youtube. Get confident with drawing people and then you can easily add wings and things x

de Winton Paper co.

I do but they are something that are very hard to teach as a one off, I would recommend looking for youtube channels that specialise in that style

de Winton Paper co.

we've got plenty of mushroom tutorials around, there's a nice one in the early watercolour hangouts with some background

Anna Leigh

There are many good suggestions and I don’t know if this can be done. I am snowed in with snow and ice,. So I am wondering if a 2 in 1 can be done with a winter scene then a spring scene next to the winter scene. This could give us snowed in folks hope to know spring will be on the way. Just a thought. I appreciate you and your talent.

Erin Berlin

I've got something specific in mind. I will share in Patreon. A full scene, not one offs.

Sarah Pace

Thank you for the tip! 😊

Oh sweet summer peaches make it a 7pm GMT hangout and I’ll be there!!!!!!

Phyllis

We”re having a small wine tasting festival here in April. I’ve been trying my hand at a few small wine themed bookmarks. But would love a tutorial on a larger wine themed painting= grapes, vineyard, grapevines, wine barrel and bottles and of course a glass of wine. It wouldn’t have to have all of those elements.

Phyllis

And of course I’m ALWAYS good with flowers!

Karma Kauffman

We’ve recently had an ice storm here. It’s both beautiful and terrible. Everything is covered in ice, which can be beautiful. Utility lines being covered in ice can make them snap if they get too heavy and then people lose power in bitter cold temperatures. So, I’m curious as to how one paints a bare tree covered in ice. They look almost diamond-like when the sun comes out and everything sparkles. So, a picture of an ice-covered tree in a winter landscape.

Emily Brakebill

Something whimsical! I’m 38 weeks pregnant with a little girl and i need some inspo of what to paint for her nursery

Carole Edain Brulé

I have always wanted to do some whimsical watercolours of children's stories (e.g., Alice in Wonderland, Wind in the Willows, Jack Frost painting ice flowers on windows, The Snow Queen, etc.) Thank you! :-)

Lai Kum Leong

It would be lovely to show chinese lanterns lining the narrow streets or decoraing a chinese garden

Stew Hall

We’re in the middle of a heatwave here so what about a kangaroo (or wallaby) having a drink from a dam (or billabong if you wanna lean into that)?

Yamila Mottley

More greeting card, please. I know there are some on the channel, but you can not have too many

Kathryn Chandler

More animals birds and butterflies please . I know you have done lots but there is still a wealth left . Hope there will be plenty of nature in your new book . Can’t wait . Xx

Anne Ridley

A tutorial of a magpie - i know there is one in book - but in person and poss more detailed
