Watercolour Challenge 12 (Patreon)
Content
Happy Tuesday everybody, we are cracking on with the next stages of our house painting. This week we are learning techniques to paint render and thatch. If you have painted your whole house with stonework don't worry, either draw up another little house to have a go on or just practise the technique on some watercolour swatches of colour.
Today we also look at how to manage pencil lines when painting.
Hello to our new Patrons! If this is your first watercolour challenge then I recommend going back through the previous challenges to get yourself up to speed and see how this all works. If you are here for house painting then start at challenge 9. All the while you can access all the tutorials on my youtube channel if you would like to go through some watercolour for beginners basics or brush up on other skills.
This is a private youtube link which only you sweet pea patrons have access to.
You will need
A range of brushes.
Colours of your choosing. I used the blues and browns in my palette.
Watercolour paper (cold pressed is my go-to).
jar of water
kitchen roll to blot the brush.
putty rubber
After watching the video...(if you can watch it on a screen larger than a phone that will improve the viewing experience as there is quite a bit of pencil drawing at the start)
Follow the steps to practise render and thatch on some scrap paper. I've also attached some thatched cottage images that will be useful references.
For each section you paint, first lightly rub out the pencil so you are just left with a faint line.
Apply your render and thatch to both houses and see if the different scales require a different approach.
Although this is a work in progress I would still encourage sharing your work. Use #dwpcchallenge and tag me @dewintonpaperco. And please do have a look at everyone else's interpretations of the brief (search the hashtag and you will see all the patreon insta posts from everyone in here) and celebrate each other's work. We learn from seeing how others interpret a single brief so a community encourages progres
Comment below with your findings, and if you are sharing your work on Instagram, use the #dwpcchallenge and tag me @dewintonpaperco.
Have a wonderful week.
