Watercolour Challenge 18 (Patreon)
Content
Hi everyone, welcome along to this week's watercolour challenge. Today we are building upon last week's cloud and sky painting with a much more colourful sky. We will also be adding silhouetted detail on top.
I LOVED painting this. It made me feel so calm and content, so if you're in need of an escape, I highly recommend this one.
Hello to our new Patrons! If this is your first watercolour challenge then I recommend going back through the previous challenges to get yourself up to speed and see how this all works. All the while you can access all the tutorials on my youtube channel if you would like to go through some watercolour for beginners basics or brush up on other skills.
This is a private youtube link which only you Sweet Pea and Cherry Blossom patrons have access to.
You will need
A range of brushes.
Colours, I used: Cobalt Blue, French Ultramarine, Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Red, Cadmium Yellow, Burnt Sienna, Prussian Blue, Mars Black
Watercolour paper (cold pressed is my go-to).
jar of water
kitchen roll to blot the brush
washi tape to tape your piece down.

After watching the video...(if you can watch it on a screen larger than a phone that will improve the viewing experience as there is quite a bit of pencil drawing at the start)
Having watched it all through once, paint along with the sky painting section of the tutorial

For the detail I would love you to make this your own. What's outside your window? What happens if you look upwards when on a walk today? We all live in different settings and some of your might not see trees and hedgerows. That's not a problem, pick out an aeroplane flying, a telegraph pole, a lamppost and see what you can create. If you haven't yet gone through the tree painting watercolour challenges, I highly recommend having a look at those before adding your detail on top of the sky.
I can't wait to see the results! Use #dwpcchallenge and tag me @dewintonpaperco. And please do have a look at everyone else's interpretations of the brief (search the hashtag and you will see all the patreon insta posts from everyone in here) and celebrate each other's work. We learn from seeing how others interpret a single brief so a community encourages progress.
Comment below with your findings, and if you are sharing your work on Instagram, use the #dwpcchallenge and tag me @dewintonpaperco.
