Watercolour Challenge 20 (Patreon)
Content
Hi everyone, welcome along to this week's watercolour challenge. Today is just a simple exercise exploring a few ways in which we can paint oceans. The depth of the sea results in a different kind of colour intensity and the sky plays a vital role in determining the colours we use. The sea and sky meet on the horizon in a distant blur where one fades into the other.
I have attached the two reference photos I used as inspiration for the second and third paintings.
Hello to our new Patrons! If this is your first watercolour challenge then I recommend going back through the previous challenges to get yourself up to speed and see how this all works.
All the while you can access all the tutorials on my youtube channel if you would like to go through some watercolour for beginners basics or brush up on other skills.
This is a private youtube link which only you Sweet Pea and Cherry Blossom patrons have access to.
You will need
A range of brushes.
Colours I used: French Ultramarine, Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Yellow, Permanent Rose, Burnt Sienna, Mars Black, Cobalt Blue, Prussian Blue, Transparent Turquoise.
This is the white acrylic I used.
Watercolour paper (cold pressed is my go-to).
jar of water
kitchen roll to blot the brush
pencil and ruler ( you could use wash tape if you want)
After watching the video...(if you can watch it on a screen larger than a phone that will improve the viewing experience as there is quite a bit of pencil drawing at the start)
Having watched it all through once, paint along with the tutorial. And it's as simple as that this week! Keep practising these little exercises until you are happy with your results.
I am looking forward to see how you get on! Use #dwpcchallenge and tag me @dewintonpaperco. And please do have a look at everyone else's interpretations of the brief (search the hashtag and you will see all the patreon insta posts from everyone in here) and celebrate each other's work. We learn from seeing how others interpret a single brief so a community encourages progress.
Comment below with your findings, and if you are sharing your work on Instagram, use the #dwpcchallenge and tag me @dewintonpaperco.
