Hi everyone, happy May and welcome to our new patrons!

Last week's detailed glass vase of tulips is now being followed up with an exercise in a contrasting style! It's so important to stretch your experience of watercolour painting and try approaching the same subject from a range of styles.

To paint in a loose style is harder than it looks but if you do last week's detailed piece you will be in the perfect position to tackle this. It is important to do the detailed groundwork purely so you can undo it when painting in this loose style!

This is a private youtube link which only you sweet pea and cherry blossom patrons have access to.

You will need

some watercolour paper

A range of paintbrushes

Paint

Jar of water

Kitchen roll to blot the brush

After watching the video...

please have a go at Watercolour challenge 33 before having a go at this.

Then paint along with the watercolour challenge and see how you get on!

Share your pieces on instagram using #dwpcchallenge and tag me @dewintonpaperco. And please do have a look at everyone else's interpretations of the brief (search the hashtag and you will see all the patreon insta posts from everyone in here) and celebrate each other's work. We learn from seeing how others interpret a single brief so a community encourages progres

Have a wonderful week.

This wasn't as easy as it looks. I practiced several times before using good paper, even then I did 3 before I got one I liked. Thank you for this, I enjoyed painting it.

Indeed, this loose style is tricky as you have to be brave. But I'm sure with a few goes you will get the hang of it
