Watercolour Challenge 33 (Patreon)
Content
Happy Tuesday and welcome to all new patrons!
A lot of you have been enquiring about painting glass in watercolour and it just so happens that our flower painting challenges have brought us to glass vases! We start with a very simple, plain glass vessel with a single stem. It's important to get a hang of the basics before complicating things further.
This is a detailed video which requires some precise pencil drawing before painting. If you are very much a beginner with watercolour, I encourage you to go back to my first few watercolour challenges which are great introductory tutorials as well as my Watercolour Painting for Beginners playlist on my Youtube channel.
The best advice I can give you is, when viewing a glass vase still life, relax your eyes and try to take in every little nuance and reflection in the glass. That's why it is easiest to work from a photo as the reflections won't move. Start with translucent pale layers and build up.
This is a private youtube link which only you sweet pea and cherry blossom patrons have access to.
You will need
some watercolour paper
A range of paintbrushes
Paint
Jar of water
Kitchen roll to blot the brush
Eraser & pencil
After watching the video...
If you are using my photos (attached) of the tulip in the vase then download the images and have them within easy viewing as you work your way through the video. If you're using your own, make sure your vase and flower set up has a plain background as that will affect what you paint in the glass reflections.
Then paint along with the watercolour challenge and see how you get on!
Share your pieces on instagram using #dwpcchallenge and tag me @dewintonpaperco. And please do have a look at everyone else's interpretations of the brief (search the hashtag and you will see all the patreon insta posts from everyone in here) and celebrate each other's work. We learn from seeing how others interpret a single brief so a community encourages progres
