Watercolour Challenge 49 (Patreon)
Content
Hi everyone and welcome along to our new Patrons. Here we have a new watery landscape as requested by you!
This challenge is a development from our previous landscapes: I've created a more textured and atmospheric sky this time, embracing the brushstrokes. I used a flat head one stroke brush for much of the general landscape, if you dont have one of those dont worry, it's mainly to do with not overloading the page with water and keeping your brush fairly dry. Dry brushing allows us to create unpainted spaces with tiny dabs of colour brushed across the texture of a cold pressed piece of paper.
If the sight of this landscape feels a bit overwhelming, search the 'landscape painting' tag to find the early tutorials on this subject.
We are now heading into a few months of fun projects which dont necessarily have a theme, they are simply subjects you have requested in the You choose Youtube feature and haven't yet found a suitable time to be done.
This is a private youtube link which only you sweet pea and cherry blossom patrons have access to.
You will need
some watercolour paper (my piece is 10x7 inches)
A range of paintbrushes including a large flat head one wash brush.
Paint: I used: cadmium yellow, cadmium orange, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, french ultramarine blue, mars black
Jar of water
Kitchen roll to blot the brush
After watching the video...
have a go at dry brushing on a separate piece of scrap paper to get the hang of the technique.
paint along with the watercolour challenge and see how you get on!
Take your time and enjoy yourself!
Share your pieces on Discord or you can use #dwpcchallenge on instagram and tag me @dewintonpaperco. And please do have a look at everyone else's interpretations of the brief (search the hashtag and you will see all the patreon insta posts from everyone in here) and celebrate each other's work. We learn from seeing how others interpret a single brief so a community encourages progres

Have a wonderful week.
