Controversial Opinion Alert: the British had better policy with regard to Native Americans than the Colonists did, and I say this as someone raised in a family of multiple generations of Irish Republican’s.

Yoooo Outside is one of my absolute favorite Bowie albums. No one talks about it so I’m thrilled to hear that intro.

Hey babe, the doctor just called with a diagnosis, turns out we've got a new form of highly transmissable metastatic culture. Bummer right? But it's not all bad news, because it's a brand new discovery we get to name it! Isn't that cool? We'll be famous! Think of it! Every time a new frontier is invaded and stripped bare by our vanguard cells (should we call them dirlewangers? I think it's a good name, sounds kind of funny no?) the name of this disease of ours is going to be on every one's lips and they will all know with complete certainty of the inevitability of becoming just another lump on the great tumor and will soon have the privilege of sending their own brave dirlewangers out into the world! Soon everything will be one unified being and only work toward the creation of more if itself! Isn't that kind of what these lefty types want anyway? All that "coexist" and "we are all one human family" bullshit? Pretty easy to coexist if it's all one thing in my opinion. Anyway, sounds like we've only got like 10 years left at best so let's just try to have fun and make the most if it.

Please don't have Farwell on. Insufferable listen when he pops up on a podcast, and from personal experience (same neck of the woods) that doofus is brazenly full of shit.

Lyrics to Wishful Beginnings by Bowie. Amazing album. Awesome to hear that at the end! Cruising around me The flames burn my body Wishful beginnings Does this remind them again and again You're a sorry little girl You're a sorry little girl Please hide For the pain must feel Like snow You're a sorry little girl Sorry little girl Please hide from the kiss and the bite Shame burns Breathing in, breathing out Breathing in only doubt The pain must feel like snow I'm no longer your golden boy Sorry little girl I'm sorry, little girl The pain must feel like snow There you go Cover me, cover me We flew on the wings We were deep in the dead air And this one will never go down We had such Wishful beginnings But we lived Unbearable lives I'm sorry little girl Sorry little girl So, so sorry little girl The pain must feel like snow There you go There you

Marc ribot, what a tone. Immediately recognizeable and alien. I'm impressed with your steadfastness.

1. I am reminded somehow by this discussion of the 1950 film Los Olvidados by Luis Bunuel (English title, The Young and the Damned), which is incredible and very worth watching. 2. The description of the "convenience store" in Twin Peaks is very helpful, even with me not yet having watched the last season "the Return", as the movie Fire Walk with Me has a fairly amazing sequence depicting this, along with some deleted scenes worth watching, available via Criterion Channel. Having come out of the last dragging parts of Season 2, that movie has gotten me super-excited to move forward into the "Return".

If you read either 2001 or 2010 A Space Odyssey they clarify that the Monolith is a beam of light that has been frozen into a matrix in order to contain an alien consciousness

What is the song at the end of the intro?

James Aydelotte

I just want to say that the ‘Convenience Store’ principle of the false town built around a blast site extends also to the secret Paperclip populated towns that the Army built in the middle of nowhere to house Nazis and keep refining the bomb. Probably also had ‘convenience store’ locations where simple English would convey the concept of the capitalist liminality contained in a small get what you need stores that never existed in Germany.

Also - while cocaine definitely ate the teeth of Richard Ramirez- I imagine the strontium 90 his whole family was exposed to downwind of the Nevada test sites ate a good amount of his teeth as well- some blowback there huh? A strontium 90 kid gets initiated into the lustmord spoils of project Phoenix by his uncle the Green Bereit who knew how best to use a Polaroid.

If there is one thing that you should know about me, Ray, it's that I don't need anything. I want.

I researched down-winders back in the 90s and one thing that stuck with me is that the government referred to those humans as a "low use segment of the population".

“In going over the battle-ground the next day I did not see a body of a man, woman, or child but was scalped, and in many instances their bodies were mutilated in the most horrible manner—men, women, and children’s privates cut out, &c. I heard one man say he had cut out a woman’s private parts and had them for exhibition on a stick; I heard another man say that he had cut the fingers off an Indian to get rings off his hand…. I also heard of numerous instances in which men had cut out the private parts of females and stretched them over the saddle-bows, and wore them over their hats while riding in the ranks…. I heard one man say he had cut a squaw’s heart out, and had stuck it on a stick.” -First Lieutenant James D. Cannon, New Mexico Volunteers

Tyson Settle

"You're an Indian" sent chills up and down my spine, not because it's the first time I've thought it but definitely the first time anyone has said it to me which is so much worse.

Has me thinking of Leslie Marmon Silko’s brilliant, harrowing _Ceremony_ and of a mind to read _Almanac of the Dead_

Eric The Bed Humper.

So now I am more certain on the theory that Noam chomsky ratted out pat Tillman after the epstein reveal.

There’s a quote somewhere in one of Kathy Acker’s novels, I can’t remember which, that says something about Muslims being the next American Indians and also the only real viable future resistance to the depredations of Western capital – something like that in essence, but really I can’t remember and there’s nothing online to help. I guess I’ll have to go back and reread a lot of Kathy Acker, too. Anyway, I guess this means I wonder if you have any thoughts about either Silko or Acker as novelists

K Brook

It feels like practically no one is talking about these abuses with enough gravitas, save a few. It's really getting hard to take. Yes dark humor, but it seems more like people are so uncomfortable with actually giving a real shit about women/kids that they default to dudebro humor. If you can't be broken with sadness over this you prob have something wrong with your empathy. Thanks for not doing that and linking it to some of it's roots.

ACABadabra

I still have a half an hour left of the episode but I just want to say that this has been, in my opinion, one of your best episodes. Thank you.

Reading Iain Sinclair's _Suicide Bridge_ this morning in Shanghai, the opening movement, "Intimate Associations: Myth & Place," and I'm struck by the use of the word "convenient" as well as the way in which Sinclair, by way of Ondaatje's _Collected Works of Billy the Kid_, turns the US American West's hell soil over into & mixes it in with the chthonic charnel strata of deep-time England. Excerpts: "The colonists, getting-away-from as much as going-open-towards, have to push further & faster as space retreats in front of them, the known swallowing the unknown, the unknown regurgitating the known as something new: gobble it up, it isn't there. America, Africa, the Stars. Extending the metaphors of pain. Where there is unclaimed space, unwritten land, there is the quest, & there is mining, a sickly clawing, not only for minerals, crops, dead artefacts, but also for mythologies. What tales the land holds buried. Drag them out with grappling-irons & tractors, record them. Hoard the images in mausoleums with chained wall; & uniformed attendants. What we walk is myth flattened into space. Its hide *There is a man naked with a gun-belt. Weals. As if the skin were spontaneously tearing itself from the bones. Who reaches for the knife in his boot.* stripped & ribboned, the thong wound out. [...] [...] Energies put on the most convenient disguises. This is how we imagine them, this is how we divide up time & make it bearable. The shape is defined, given linear borders - as it intersects with time. We discover what the shape is by being forced to describe it." (pp 12-13) You describe "what the shape is" with such clarity and the deep pain

Found your work having just finished Gravity's Rainbow and stumbling on your free eps on yt. In it you mention Lyrics of the Crossing and that it was published at-cost so readers should track you down to get you the jacket price. I'm an honourable lady. What's your novel you like most at the moment and where's the best place to pay up? Be glad to listen to any episodes that talk about your writing if anyone can point me in the right direction.

Wow, shattering episode. It made me actually vomit, brought some unease to a head and spewed it from my head. Great work

That line about “we’ll dump your oil drum in the northern part of the Atlantic so you can finally be a part of NATO” is one of the darkest things I’ve ever heard lmao

Q: What became of the novel that was turned down by FSG, which you mention in one of the early episodes? Is that available to read anywhere?

Also, interestingly enough, some of my indigenous Mexican ancestors were generations of peons on the King family ranch in Texas, the largest ranch of all fucking time, and wouldn’t you know, the “owners” of the land that houses the Zorro ranch appear to be related to the Kings who left Texas for New Mexico …
