MJ explains an asinine joke, gives a convocational reading from DeLillo, tells a story about Art Bell, and then both presents & proves the unquestionable theory that there is no longer a sun.  We repeat: there is not a sun, and your objections have already been addressed.

Could Judd be on assignment in Marfa as a sort of early-day Lou Elizindo?

Nic Bodiford

I am referring to the “Marfa Lights” strangeness

Jonathan Schultz

I know that you have mentioned that Mason & Dixon is unfavored by you among Pynchon's novels, but I felt it was an unseen presence at the margins of this episode...

Skeleton Key

This episode was exhilaratingly good. The meditations on nukes have me wondering if Merrill's "Changing Light At Sandover" transects your domain of interest at all.

looking forward to this one but have to ask... do you plan on continuing the Gravity's Rainbow series? the timing was fortuitous for me; i was reading GR for the first time during those eps (finished it recently)

Tenshi's half-eaten corndog

As i go through the old episodes i imagine what it would have been like had i first listened to the show as it was coming out, when im still a teenager, and i am now convinced that it would have sowed the seeds of a permanent psychosis. Great stuff!

As someone who studies the physics of stars professionally, I really enjoy your philosophical perspective on the sun.

Molly Kiely

here in 2026 relistening... [*sigh*] yep, yep, yep, yep.

Renfrew

This instantly became pretty much my favorite episode of a podcast I've ever listened to

Thomas Graham

I've felt a similar way about the sun since high-school but could never put it into words. This has opened so many pathways of imagination that beg spelunking.

elle

think this might be my favorite

Wanted to go back to this (fifth time now) and I got a bit of a curious thought from it, how much do the one moon and one sun serve as progenitors to dualism? Like say we were to have a binary star or a second moon, how much would that change us? It seems to me that we see binaries largely as self-evident counterposing forces in the most basic form, would that change with different astronomical conditions?
