MJ on Station to Station, one of Bowie's most deeply layered records and perhaps the one that most nearly cost him his sanity and life.

hi, new listener here, savoring this bowie series. i heard you call word on a wing something like bowie's most nakedly christian song and it makes me wonder whether i've misconstrued heathen's i would be your slave because to me that one is just purely devotional. do you hear what i hear in that one? would love to know.

as I believe I say in the episode (I recorded it in a migraine-induced near-fugue state), thanks to Brant Casavant for the impetus

Brant

Just finished the episode. Really excellent, super excited for next week.

In the Cracked Actor documentary (which I agree is a must-see), he follows up the 'there's a fly in my milk' with something along the lines of 'that's how i feel, a foreign body and I can't help but soak it up' which for me is what elevates Bowie to some different plane. Even a simple observation is turned into some metaphoric elucidation of his character. And even if ( as I sometimes suspect) it was a planned or preconceived line, it demonstates that he truly saw himself in everything.

I gotta ask if anyone has any clues for the Jimmy Page story??

You're a little out with Derek Beackon I think - he didn't become an MP in the 70s, he became a local Councillor in the Isle of Dogs in 1993. So he isn't contemporary with Thatcher so much as Blair, though admittedly both Maggie and Tony had the same weird look in their eyes (and probably the same make-up department).

'Granpa Jim' and ''grandma pat' were the people who raised me, cus my dad was a lush and my mother was working, they were both Texas desert trash, their son and grandson both played pro baseball (google scurry it's a trip). Anyway I saw ganpa Jim kill a gopher with his bare hands when he was 92 yrs old-that methodist piss poor Texas culture is insane

As an irishman you’ve correctly identified the UUP (and also DUP) as fascists.
