Nuclear weapons, performance terrorism, and ecological collapse as 3 metastases of figure and ground.

Sorry it's so damn grim.  Sincere thanks to everybody this year, hopes that the next one will be less brutal, and whichever version of the repurposed sun god rebirth ritual you happen to engage in, I hope that goes well too.

Supporting the troops this holiday season by continuing to back this patreon, cheers

Thanks Michael, my balls and benis! Would you mind speaking about Dylan’s release of Murder Most Foul and breaking down the song a bit? Is there anything to the idea that his motorcycle accident // going electric suggests him being “gotten to,” and if so, do you think he just doesn’t give a shit anymore? I know you’ve touched on the former idea in an earlier ep re: Pynchon but figured the song’s release piqued your interest as it did mine!

Madra na Móna

Voting for Anglo-Saxon Modranicht to be the official Winter rebirth festival of the podcast.

I would love a part 4 that contains an answer to my question about China from the first Q&A post. Thanks for being in my ear Michael!

Poopoopeepee

Not to downplay the danger we’re in generally with climate change, but I believe the clathrate gun hypothesis has been proven to be less of a threat than once imagined. We are fucked, though.

Ted B

Merry Christmas Michael! thanks for the ep, gives me something to do while I bum around my parents place

Baily McDaniel

From someone with the broken brain syndrome and lots of fun health issues I can empathize with the exhaustion. Thanks for pushing through it just to entertain us. Wishing you health and happiness in the new year, you definitely deserve it 🖤

Baily McDaniel

Just had to say that last metaphor inferring the lack of action on "climate change 🙄" is like watching a contest while the stadium is actively being demolished really struck me. I really appreciate your voice Michael. Literally, philosophically, acoustically and existentially.

QUARANTINE DREAM

this has been a very hard burden to bear for minds that are alert and aware. insanely glad I know you exist and get to feel like there are other folks that I approve of. Keep it up duder.

Nicholas CLARK

Hey Michael, thanks so much for such a thoughtful response. I was expecting something great as usual, but this really has been such a good Christmas gift to wake up to! I understand you’ve got a hell of a backlog right now and I hate to add to it even more, but some of your thoughts on climate change to me recalled Donna Harroway’s commentary on the ‘cthulhucene’. You’ve mentioned the Santiago theory of consciousness a few times on the show, and I was wondering if you had anything to say about speculative realism and object-oriented ontology, especially as a rather fashionable discipline these days. One other thing, in the holiday spirit. I’m not sure if you’d reject the label of pessimism, but at some stage I’d love to hear if you’ve read much of Cioran? I often think of his quote on Bach - on an optimistic New Year’s note, what, if anything, helps you reject the idea that the creation of the universe was a complete failure? Really though, I hope you have a lovely Christmas and take care of yourself these days. Thank you for everything you do - your work has touched many people, myself included. All the best for the year ahead (:

Faroose

Merry Christmas, MJ (that’s right, we’re saying it again)! One of these days I’ll actually ask a question, so keep doing these Q&A’s whenever you’re up for it. They’ll always be interesting.

Dasecretpimp

Merry Christmas thank you for your service

Feliz Fucking Navidad from Honduras! Appreciated the mention since for some reason when talking about that era only Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua are brought up. Thanks for working in this episode and releasing it now, it makes the dissonance of this season more bearable!! Bring Part 4 on! (The contrast bit to the attention given to the GA runoff made me literally burst out laughing, you're great!!). Gracias alero!

Karl Childers

Can anyone understand or explain the claim at the end of this episode about increased atmospheric methane "reversing the carbon cycle?" Did I hear him correctly that the idea is plants will reverse their metabolism and consume oxygen instead of CO2? Because that makes no sense to me and I've never heard of this before.

What's the point of art? What role does it play? I was re-watching Wolf of Wall Street because I saw some dipshit Entrepreneur Gary Ver Self Help Inspo on the instagram that featured Jordan Belfort in a positive light of bootstrap politics. Is this a failure of illiteracy? Cooptation? Or has art always been this impotent? Do we as this internet hive place too much on art as politics? Seems that social media and PMC (not an insult but categorical term of an amorphous cohort) place art as a medium of change in discourse. Asked an old friend from my well to do Jersey suburb hometown and he replied me, "If art isn't impactful, what will change our discourse and create change?" Material fucking organizing is my answer to his question. But can or will art play a role in material change? P.s. im not blackpilled on art. I still love watching movies and reading books. I'm just wondering if it's functional in some way b/c I do lean towards taking in art that is challenging as well as reflects something about the world like Pynchon. Who knows maybe its all just meant to be enjoyed and some shit hits differently to others.

Maria

I also suffer from broken brain syndrome but you’re doing great! Whenever you can, I would appreciate a part 4. Suck my balls and benis and happy new year.

Zac

Balls and benis- to what extent did alan dulles and carl jung work together? And is it known if Dulles was familiar with Jungs more esoteric writing (I'm thinking of Aion specifically)

Jonathan Smith

it might be grim but it’s the most accurate and honest way to view this bullshit devil country we live in. thank you for your service.

James Bradley

Say, MSJ. Not to be a hater or anything but you're wronv on one tiny aspect of Claire Sterling; she was a woman who was fed talking points from intelligence agenccies, not a man. And I only want to make the distinction because she also happens to be the maternal grandmother of KOOL AD the musician, author and artist. Most famously from Das Racist. Just thought you may be interested in that odd fact.

Andrew Rassling

While I can hear you talk about basically anything, I want to hear what you want to talk about. Do ya thang my favorite radio host. also since again you insist; my balls and benis

Holland Rains

The last bit about global warming reminds me of a South African UFO case where 30 some children claim to have seen ETs, the children said the ETs communicated visions of an earth where all humans were suffocating to death. In other news I’m having an panic attack lol. Great episode ❤️

Nikolas Berndt

Amazing episode as always. More please, yes, mucho maas. As I don't have Twitter I couldn't reply to your post about discovering black midi. One of my favorites since I discovered them. Anyway, you should also check out black country, new road. They haven't released as much but remind me of black midi, they also play a lot together, jam sets and what not. Also wondering if you ever listened to Daughters' latest album You Won't Get What you Want? Dark and harrowing stuff. Very physic album. Anyway, as we say in Sweden "God fortsättning!", good continuation and happy new year. Can't wait for more material. Best regards from Sweden

What are your thoughts on the films of David Cronenberg?

Gustave Courbet

Another banger. It bears mention that even if global capitalism went “green” yesterday and stopped dumping greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, we’d still be causing a mass extinction via pollution, habitat destruction, and invasive species introduction. Only if humanity gets off the continuous growth paradigm will we begin to mitigate the destruction already well underway. Which is essentially impossible due to the network oligarchy running things. Happy new year.

Jordan Cohen

What classical music do you enjoy?

8985

I’m asking this out loud, to no one in particular: what is the verdict among freaks like us when it comes to the Ken Burns Vietnam series? I’ve never bothered to watch anything by him but I’m interested in diving deeper into Nam. If it’s a waste of 18 hours of my life, what is a better alternative?

John Waaben

Can you do an analysis of cumtown

Sam

Got anything to say about Jonestown being a big mkultra op? Jim Jones was absolutely an asset at the least

Ross Jackson

Your episode on Burroughs made me think of Genet because of similar experience I had reading Notre Dame Des Fleurs.. He seemed to have a lot of cultural currency (name checked in songs from Bowie and others, long runs of his plays). Have you read/seen much of his work? The Balcony always struck me as an almost prefiguring of the internet in someway. A whorehouse where everyone tries on whatever masks they like. Ruling elite play as visionary paragons, Powerless people play petty tyrants. Read a lot of it when I was younger, and am curious why it has become less prevalent or out of vogue. Thanks. Stay healthy. Keep up the good work on the show.

Charlie joyce

Would love to hear your thoughts on John Coltrane and 60s jazz in general.

Sam

Thoughts on Ratner’s Star?

Sam

Have you read High Weirdness by Erik Davis? Great book. I just listened to an interview with him and he said he’s been listening to your podcast and had lots of praise!!
