Thanks for a great episode (: You’ve spoken about the eschatology of the nuclear age, and with it terrorism as a ‘second new type of death’. You’ve also mentioned climate change before, and I’d love to hear you elaborate - do you think with it climate change brings a third kind of death? And likewise, do you think - maybe optimistically - the imminence of ‘species-death’ might also bring with it consciousness of our ‘species being’?

Part 3 please, the only notification I look forward to is the one I get for this show

Part 3 mothafucka!! (Please and thank you)

MJ only ever having heard 2 pavement songs is nothing compared to the time where I believe he and the person he was talking to both said they have never really read any Faulkner. I agree that Range Life and also generally Malkmus at his most campy are incredible annoying. But I think MJ needs to listen to Wowee Zowee at the very least. Even those who don’t like Malkmus have to fuck with the Spiral Stairs contributions on their best shit.

Chris Ryan

I may be misremembering the Faulkner Foible Fallacy episode as an MJ thing but he does have a scintilla of that character trait where one forcibly rejects amazing material for spurious grudge- based reasons. At least half of the people who I like in this world have that character trait, btw, I’m not throwing shade on our boy in particular

Livingperson1

Part three, but it's about your favorite tickety-toks.

one more question! you seem to like the art of Zdzisław Beksiński - what draws you to his work? I understand you used the header image for a version of Scenarists of Europe - did it provide an inspiration or catalyst for your “During America” chapter?

Jack Nancy

love from Montana my dude

been banging on about Latin America's revolutionary potential as is pertains to North American revolution for years now. spending time in Mexico absolutely gave me so much fucking hope. Thanks for pointing this out.

Chris

definitely gonna need a 3rd ep. Mr Judge! (for those juicy data points AI generated simulacrum to languish in the uncanny valley which is fine I don't judge man

PART 3!!!!!! i graduated from iowa and had no idea the writers workshop had cia connections. i would love for you to elaborate on specifically the writers workshop, but generally the cia’s involvement in modernist writing and art

Part 3! Part 3! Part 3!

BobbyMilk

Not sure if you want questions for Part 3 here...but have you read anything by or are you familiar with Victor Pelevin?

Spearmint Agnew

Part 3 pls. And if you’re running low on Qs: do you like Concrete poetry? Postwar it seems like one of the movements most eager to carry on the modernism of Joyce and pound. haroldo and Augusto de campos—they called themselves the noigandres group after that word from canto xx—did a found text/translation/illustrated panorama of Finnegans wake which idk how to find anywhere —anyway good international antidote to the domestication of writing that you mention happening at the same time in US. John Dolan calls this writing “the divorce in cape cod story,” and rub some elbow grease and cigarette ash and you’re in clatskanie Oregon instead, reading Carver in your writing workshop

Part 3! also, do you have any thoughts about how the relationship between the CIA and the executive branch (specifically the presidency) has changed since the postal reorganization act of 1970 rerouted the CIA's funding through the executive branch? Nixon used it to get them to stop spying on them but it seems like they still do more or less whatever they want

Malachi Musclerat

also is this just the place to suggest whole episode topics? everyone else is doing it

Omg MJ if you know anything about Caetano and Gilberto and Tom Zé, Gal Costa, everyone who listens to your show needs to know about the work of the Tropicalist movement. Imho

What happened to the 5th part of the Kennedy Assassination series? It is still uploaded on the old ITunes and I was wondering why you decided it wasn’t accurate. Also part 3!!

Marc Schneider

I’m sure you’re not taking any more submissions, but it would be mighty helpful to hear you talk about how you do research and determine which sources are reliable.

Part 3 king

Also id love to hear your thoughts on Tom Oneals Chaos: charles Manson, the CIA etc. Is there anything that strikes you as incongruous with your knowledge of that era in intelligence and it's involvement in counter culture? Do you know of any other books of that quality that covers other aspects of mk ultra well?

Tug

You never give a good critique of Marxism, the development of socialism as a science. It’s always vague lib bs. Edit: oops I meant, “balls and benis” Thanks for the thoughtful reply. Love your voice and style.

adam

Dumb question, just want to hear you go off: who currently walking the earth inspires the most hatred in you?

Arkady

pt 3 please - also what's your thoughts (if any) on Robert Anton Wilson, Leary, etc. RAW as a pulp Pynchon

Ahem. Part 3

I just read your medium post on alchemy in literature and was wondering if you'd considered following it up/completing it in an episode sometime?

glenn mohre

I've been enjoying This Heat - Deceit on your recommendation. I had given it a whirl years ago, but a second approach is revealing the unique intensity. It'd be interesting to hear even a mini-exegesis on the work.

Chrus

I might be too late on this but i hope you'll do a part 3 on the Q and A. I think you mentioned once on twitter that you'd love to have Nic Pizzolatto on the show. Has there been any movement on that? If not i'd love to hear your thoughts on True Detective season 1. I think its fucking great and Pizzolatto has probably been censored a bit since it came out.

Gurjot

When Chapo did the poppy bush episode, i was thinking about the atomic bomb scene of the twin peaks and it's absolutely visceral imagery and I was thinking Bush in a way like killer bob was an evil unleashed onto the world after 1945. I am glad you talked about Lynch.

Gustave Courbet

Super late comment, finally finding time to catch up- great show, I particularly resonated w/ your point on anonymity. As a visual artist trying to make money selling art, the marketing paradigm is pretty stomach churning. Would love to be able to let the work speak for itself.

Christopher Sutela

The stuff on alchemy and the dialectical image made Category Theory pop into my head.

Part 3 bay beeeeeeee!

hey MJ, after the very brief Brian Catling mention: have you read his Vohrr novels?
