The only possible guest, the great Matt Christman of Chapo Trap House and the new series Time for My Stories, joins MSJ to analyze Q as a mind virus, detachable from all "content," latent in the nature of information itself – it's the true product of a society in which everyone is always lying, and it's already mutating into more durable antibiotic-resistant forms.  Soon, we will all be Market Gnostics.

Returning to this episode only to be confronted by how unbelievably prescient it continues to be with each passing year is such an astounding experience. You two really got this one up while the shot clock was winding down, genuinely masterful stuff.

man, love the reference to that Borges story as it pertains to Q. read that really, really red wine hungover on a train in New Jersey a few years ago and it absolutely sparkles in my mind when I question whether I have had good times in my life. nice to here you and Matt chat again -

I remember multiple times during my undergrad literature degree at our shared university a gnostic text coming up in passing (usually Plato’s “Statesman”) and it being sort of glossed over as not that important, while I’m waving my hands like a lunatic saying WAIT JUST ONE MINUTE PLEASE. Another text that made a pretty convincing argument for the truly deranged/dedicated was to the effect of how Milton’s theology taken to its conclusion was not the end of Paradise Lost + Regained but rather his rewrite of Samson Agonistes in which Samson doesn’t kill just the noble Philistines in the arena, but rather everyone in the arena. The argument in that criticism was that Blake stopped short by accusing Milton of being “of the devil” because in fact, Milton would have been inevitably gnostic, had he more time on his hands before he died, and not been blind (thus having more time to read and consider the conclusions of his rewrite of the scriptures). tl;dr lets start a gnostic cult, boys, god hates us heeelll yeah

Is the title a Star Trek pun or am I entirely mistaken?

Great interview — tight, intent, solid. You had a very good rapport, the conversation was well balanced between you both, and the subject matter popped. I think this is your best one yet.

Compare this comments section (good vibes) to the chapo comments (why so angry?)

This was more clear and resounding in thought than I even could’ve imagined. Don’t break your brains too hard getting us piggies more answers/resolutions, but thank you!

Great show. Too short though. Reminded me of arch-reptoid Zbig Brzezinski’s 1970 book “between two ages” where he observed that the number of books published since 1450 has doubled every 20 years: “it is simply impossible for the average citizen and even men of intellect to assimilate and meaningfully organize the flow of knowledge for themselves...The sharing of new common perspectives thus becomes more difficult as knowledge expands; in addition, traditional perspectives such as those provided by primitive myths or, more recently, by certain historically condition ideologies can no longer be sustained.” The sheer volume of information precludes understanding, and when you add disinformation and media spin to the process, sussing out reality becomes that much more difficult, even for the small percentage of weirdos compelled to do so.

MJ I just wanted to let you know that I just impulse bought a very strange starter lap steel called a Peavey Powerslide. The last one I owned was 10 years ago and it blows my mind how much I have learned since then, especially recently via your guitar and amp episodes, about how to craft a tone and effects chain. Thanks a million.
