The gray men were in the background drawing very simple curves

(Something I meant to mention but, being in something less than top form, forgot: Assistant Secretary of War John J. McCloy was also a pivotal figure in the decision not to bomb the gas chambers at Auschwitz or the rail lines running to the camp, even when their purpose was fully understood.  McCloy argued that it wasn't worth diverting American air power from more "decisive" operations.)

Thank you for doing this series, and for all of the work you do! 🙏🙏

Last episode was 🔥🔥🔥 Can’t wait to listen to this one 😊

I haven’t read it yet so I can’t vouch for it but it’s on my shelf — Adam Tooze’s The Wages of Destruction is supposed to be a deep dive into the workings of the Nazi economy

Bryn Nieboer

have you seen 'the turin horse', michael?

Another excellent episode.

It's an unfortunate fact of human evolution that an adult English speaking man cannot talk about neoliberal apologia without starting to sound like Guy Raz himself. This episode is proof, lol. Harassing NPR hosts on Twitter is one of the few valid uses of Twitter, imo.

D&G reference Daniel Guerín’s “Fascism and Big Business” in ATP — might be a good place to look. This is an issue that has plagued my conscience for a while given the obvious comparisons between Fascist corporatism and Stalinist state-ownership. It’s obviously a bunk comparison — the existence of relations between American and Nazi capitalist firms vs the fierce antagonism towards the Soviet Bloc should be evidence enough imo — but when I was an undergrad trying to dunk on my professors, it always pissed me off that I couldn’t easily access some in-depth study of the Reich’s political economy. Reminds me, there’s this excellent book I had in high school, which attempted to show how the stifling effect of economic isolation led to the collapse of the USSR, that I lost and have desperately been trying to find since to no avail. If anyone has a clue what I’m talking about, lemme know.

Absolutely love this series. Thanks for shedding some light on yet another side of the puzzle.

This is so fucking good I swear 25 minutes felt like three hours. And it’s not just the edibles

Samuel Best

Nazi Hydra in the Americas, hidden history of a century has some brilliant work regarding the corporate relationships and structures in Nazi Germany Michael

thirdpencil

The book you're looking for is Franz Neumann's "Behemoth" - best political economic analysis of the real structures of nazi fascism ever written

Luke Cragg

I’m pleased see this episode drop, but I’m even more pleased to see that Michael is feeling well enough to have recorded it

Be Nice To Me

To answer your question about info on how Nazi Germany was ran, there’s a good video on YouTube called “Was Hitler A Socialist” by Three Arrows. It’s a good intro to all of that and I’m sure the video description has more in depth sources

Tony

What’s the story regarding the “pigment on film cellular biology of a star literally turning into a cancer that killed the man who created it”?

Carine

Love this even more now that I know Michael records his shows in one take

John Waaben

Thank you for a new name to obsess over. Great series the parts are connecting and turning

disgotheque

Great episode, as always. Although I'm surprised the words "the empire never ended" didn't come up.

Court Hansen

Thank you very much for the “Surf’s Up” shout out at the top of the this episode.

Suicide and back pain — my kind of show

Beginning to Read Pynchon’s GR, listening to recent contextual development around hidden Nazi communities D/C and True Anon’s JFK/Adam Curtis series has led me to synaptic popitude, mylenated and stylenated! For those who enjoy their national treasures - it doesn’t get any better than Pynchon, Judge, Belden/Franczek/Good. YNWA

Goddamnit Michael, great show- I hope you feel better man. I could riff on this stuff all day, but just a few points on the content. Dissident historian Michael Parenti mocked the consensus perspective on history as “stochastic theory” as the opposite of conspiracy theory, a dumb dichotomy if there ever was one. A couple reading recommends: on the fake de-nazification of post war Germany check out “the splendid blond beast” by Simpson. On post war nazi networks, “Martin Bormann: nazi in exile” about the sub Rosa fascist corporate empire headed by a dead man- worth noting, the author Paul Manning’s son was murdered in retaliation for writing the book.

Incredible episode. Curious about your thoughts about the emergence of this “side” - I remembered you talking about Twin Peaks way back, and I think it presents a very interesting spiritualisation of evil, especially with the emergence of the atomic bomb, and I’d love to hear more about your thoughts on that.

Can anyone help me find the Shuler book on Kabbalah he mentioned? No luck on google, I may have misheard the author's name

and McCloy's first post after the war was World Bank, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
