Isn't it interesting how this culture projects its own brutality onto the Mayans.

A close friend of mine has been dealing with a lot of death lately and after I explained the Mayans thoughts on the stars she felt a little better, thanks Michael

Brilliant episode. Thank you. I have just recently finished reading A Distant Mirror and am now enjoying The Undiscovereed Self, so I am very much in the mood for what you are talking about. Have you ever visited any Mayan archeological sites?

Sharing in the general excitement. My avatar is Lady Xoc, a Mayan noblewoman depicted drawing threaded porcupine quills through her tongue in order to draw blood to offer to the gods for the good of her people. More Maya!!!

Just caught up on this episode this morning. Really great to hear your voice (s) again, Michael. Hope things are on the up & up.

Really enjoyed the episode... admittedly I had to re-listen because you started validating things my Hungarian immigrant parents have been harping on about for years that I never really took seriously. Anyway, (I cant believe I'm about to type this) the reason I'm commenting is to share some thoughts about astrology. I think there is certainly a lot of room to disagree with the way pop astrology interprets and applies concepts and its extremely frustrating to try to have a serious conversation about astrology with people. The way I see it is that astrology is related to this idea of as above, so below; similar examples of that idea which come to mind are patterns across nature like root systems and mycelium networks, the golden spiral, etc. In the same way that holistic/traditional wellness considers a human being intertwined with the energies and physical environment/stimuli around them, I would argue that astrology applies that idea to the sky. A similar notion that is worth mentioning is the way that alchemists considered themselves part of the experiment (thinking there is no meaningful way to separate out the alchemist/scientist). There are lots of different frameworks to apply astrology through but the way I personally like to think about it is that there may be some discrete speck of the universe that we manifest as in this life but which exists long before and after. So, instead of viewing astrology as causal I think people should consider it a framework to interpret the world. Just like with science, people should not try to do "applied astrology" without a foundational understanding of astrology.

Would love some more astrology content if you find your brain aimed in that direction. Yours is a refreshing outlook in general, and this short bit on astrology was especially tasty.
