Synthesis sublimates magic; the white Western order of calculus and death expands outward at the speed of light.

Plus: Gaza in hell, America in circles, stalking a vanished frontier.

I'm a simple them... I see a Death Corner I listen to a Death Corner

Totally off the topic but the whole “synthesis” (just as a running theme, but not substantively) thing makes me think of the song Narcosynthesis and it plays in my head

The theory of America becoming the entertainment exporter of the world as a result of needing to continue Manifest Destiny when the physical limitations have been reached is fascinating. I'll listen to your brother's podcast with more awareness now.

The description of the angel of history reminds me a lot of the lead up to Peter Sachas death in how, following Leni, he can’t see what’s ahead of them only what gets caught up in their vorticies.

Jake Rogers

Can’t help but think of Truman in regards to Missouri Masons. Will have to revisit that section of GR… can’t believe I missed the veiled prophet allusion previously.

Hum had a song called "The Scientists" that goes "too much here too late/I want to see it all again/she said keep this benzene ring around your finger/and think of me when everything you wanted starts to end"

Just got to the M&D reference and discussion and my mind is buzzing around the realization of how many of those say, publi-private partnerships like the India companies had a central interest in establishing borders (taxonomic definition, lines of transit and control), and how many of those borders were the locus of cataclysmic warfare (Mason-Dixon, Sykes-Picot, Durand off the top of my head).

Oh fuck, I remember hearing about the pedophile DuPont thing years ago, had no idea Beau was involved in getting him off. Kinda funny when you think about the way Beau died, in part from toxic fumes.

I’m almost certain Devin O’Shea is working on a comprehensive Veiled Prophet book—would love to see him mention Pynchon.

I’ve always thought something similar to what you’re saying about Los Angles vis a vis the Western course of American Empire. I would say that with the closing of the two-dimensional geographical territory of the frontier, California (twined with the Cinema, as it inevitably must be) represents a kind of imperial dimensional transform, not from the lateral to the vertical axis like you say, but along the fourth vector. In other words, having enclosed space, at the Western limits of the continent, American capital set about conquering time.

this podcast rewires my freaking brain

Have thought a lot about synthesis and how it will play a role as much of the world becomes too hot to farm our everyday staples. Especially the psychotropic ones. Like, where will we get our fix of speed when it’s too dry to grow coffee? Or, god forbid, some sort of poppy blight comes online to kick off Fentanyl 2.0.

Kamran Husain

thanks for helping me stay sane (as i ever was) literally worked an event last weekend for honeymooners who were supposed to go to is(not)rael and i wanted to bash my head into the wall the entire day

GP

Nearly crashed my car when I thought you said "Pynchon talking about the N-word experience"

I'll say it again, for more on Maxwell's demon, see The Entropy Law and the Economic Process by Nicholas Georgescu-Roegen

“I would to meet the Switchmaster someday.” So say we all, brother

Justin Reid

Buddy, they won’t even let me master the switches.

A.M. Wreckloose

Awesome episode. Isn't there something in the San Diego section of Blood Meridian about "you wouldn't think a man could run plumb out of country could you?"

Dwayne Reid

DULLes = BLAND. Works for me!

This was a much needed peg in the hole left by Matt Christman content

I’m glad the Pökler parts are important to you - on my first read through I found them the most poignant, the most heartbreaking, the most terrifying. This is my favorite passage: She has talked to psychiatrists, she knows about the German male at puberty. On their backs in the meadows and mountains, watching the sky, masturbating, yearning. Destiny awaits, a darkness latent in the texture of the summer wind. Destiny will betray you, crush your ideals, deliver you into the same detestable Bürgerlichkeit as our father, sucking at his pipe on Sunday strolls after church past the row houses by the river—dress you in the gray uniform of another family man, and without a whimper you will serve out your time, fly from pain to duty, from joy to work, from commitment to neutrality. Destiny does all this to you.

40:30 you say, “every little thing in its cage.” Heres Faraday himself climbing in and living in it from his diary: “I went into the cube and lived in it, and using lighted candles, electrometers, and all other tests of electrical states, …”
