Matthias Preissl

He's gonna need therapy now. Do baxxids have therapy? They should.

Matthias Preissl

Also Varaxes just casually doing the 1984 Dune sonic attack thing...

Gregory

Ah, that helps the test make more sense - baxxids have an off button. Nothing they said was going to stop him but this sure did. I love the words in the first panel.

kurogetsui

Kalgkur.exe has stopped working and needs to restart.

Vicroc4

So it was a test after all.

Tanis

I think Kalgkur is still trying to process what in the heck just happened, that or he's too busy feeling his brains rattling about like a pair of maracas to have even noticed. The alleged conspiracy being a test of provocation, is certainly going to make a lot of commentators very happy. Guess i shouldn't be surprised i was wrong... still, seems they didn't quite expect Kalgkur of all Baxxid to go full war mode in response to the provocation.

Faraday Cage

I have to admit a small part of me was hoping it was hallucinations from bad meat.

Matthias Preissl

Yeah, green veil seemed genuinely shocked at just how angry Kalgkur got.

John C Butler

Elder Varakess thought of Kal as timid and liable to accept without question whatever the Elders told him. Now they know Kalgur will defend what he believes in with violence if necessary.

valsalia

That one was my favorite theory!

valsalia

Kalgkur might have to invent it

valsalia

Couldn't be stopped by anything they said, but definitely stopped by something that Varakses "said"

valsalia

The boot button's under the 3rd neck scale

valsalia

He was always a timid boy! Very unexpected.

Gregory

I’m sure Ran is willing to give it an attempt. And he’ll document all of his failures, for science and his patron!

BiasMushroom721

Out of placers 276 in which we learn the Baxids either have sonic attacks or just straight up magic as well as an autonomous kill mode.

Tanis

Probably less of an off button and more of that infrasonic blast overloading Kalgkur's sense of hearing, and probably rattling his brain something fierce.

VGR

Bless you, future foot soldier. (Okay, it will make more sense if it’s all a test.)

Ngrasta

Power word Stun.

valsalia

Turns out, Varakses just said "no" really hard

Vet

When the time comes Kal will lead the baxxids to victory….but not today…not today.

ComradeDoose

Is this the first time we've seen someone actively use magic? O:

Finvaara

I shall now tentatively cease pouting once again. Keeping track of possible futures is exhausting.

valsalia

Tune in next week to find out!

valsalia

Technically singing is Throat Magic

Aulderbane

It has been said there is no magic in this world, by Val Salia himself. The Baxxid speak in infrasonic wavelengths, I am not surprised that they can weaponize that.

Aulderbane

I hear many Yinglets have a form of throat magic, too. >:)

Nulgar

Lieutenant Kal!

Caerdwyn

None are as vicious as the pacifist pushed to violence.

valsalia

So apparently a ton of cultures have a saying that amounts to this

Lurk

My boy Kalgkur getting hit with the Bene Gesserit voice!

Mits

this is good, the old generation knows the younger need to be better, the true test was in seeing if he could disagree with the elders too

ComradeDoose

I didn't know there was no magic, I just assumed it was super rare x:

Flora P-Stylianides

Aahh, good. It was a test. Gosh, this comic is going places I could never have guessed it ever would. Also, y'all aren't beating the bioengineered war machine allegations like that XD

Gray Fox

Bug hug, cute

Thorin N. Tatge

Tentacles of wrath and circular word of shutdown? These creatures have so many features. But oh! If they really were created by humans to destroy other humans... perhaps that shutdown feature was put in to keep them from turning on their creators.

Avi Brandier

What a relief! When I glowingly describe to others the living moment of a webcomic's update cycle, stuff like this is what I'm talking about

Zerith

Yes, it was a test. But at any point, did the elders Lie about their nature? Something to think about.

BrowserCat

Dang. That was brutal! Poor Kalgkur. Though, I suppose if he had any doubts about his own heart after that incident, they have surely been dispelled.

Vet

As we soldiers would say…Put that pin back in the grenade for now.

Shyster

Holy crap. We get to see a pissed-off Baxxid, and it's terrifying.

Vicki M.

..Kal's kinda hot there, not gonna lie >_>

Richard Weir

@Magitechnician: Especially Orcas!

Richard Weir

Yeah - there are times one is glad a character can't leap out of the page at one! (That sounds so very much like a Sapphire and Steel episode!)

Raan

I would like to say "called it" , per my comment on the previous page

Darth Pseudonym

I think it's less a word than a sonic attack. The wave effect in the panel of Kal getting hit suggests a physical effect.

Magitechnician

I kinda suspect it’s both? Like it’s distinctly a sonic blast that would probably debilitate anyone, but the fact Kal’s back tendrils retracted immediately too makes me think Baxxid are programmed to additionally shut down in response to the frequency. Like, a sonic attack that rattles your senses will stop you, but if that wave was in your Mom’s voice you’d be *extra* stunned.

Magitechnician

…wait have we seen any dogs??? *Any* earth-life except humans??

ComicTF

To test your resolve, we will gaslight the shit out of you.

valsalia

A tendency to tow the line ain't always a virtue

valsalia

They are tentacles of -several- things!

Flora P-Stylianides

It did! I fear we shall never see the light of day again

valsalia

I think each page tends to have a little more impact when it's the most current page, because you linger on it, as opposed to clicking -Next-

valsalia

They are actually several goblins in a worm suit

valsalia

He's definitely going to have to get his blood pressure checked tho

valsalia

His body temperature is indeed elevated during this scene

valsalia

Well, we've seen "dogs" (See field Guide about local flora and fauna)

valsalia

"The Worms Have Their Ways"

Magitechnician

Ahha! So they’re warm-blooded bone worms
