Tonight, I'm looking back into the past and seeing nothing but the future. The holidays have that effect on us, don't they?

Best gift I’ve received in Magic this year was a Cult Healer from my brother. We were playing Duskmourn draft over Thanksgiving and he kept reading “eerie” as “Ernie.” He was muttering “Ernie” all night. He gave me the card signed but misspelled Ernie so the card reads: “Erine (strikethrough) Ernie -Thomas, deadass”

before sol ring was reprinted en masse, I had somehow lost my sol ring. A friend of mine felt bad and gifted one to me as a replacement. It meant a lot to me, and its still my favourite sol ring to play. Fallen Empires shaped my early experience learning magic and playing highlander. Highlander variant where we used 4 of a card printed in different art styles with different accompanying flavor text. The first deck I ever played with was saprolings and thallids, and elvish farmer. I liked fallen empires because there was little interactions that might just alter the course of a battle and politics ever so slightly. There was text heavy cards, but someone was able to parse it out for everyone and the card was either a flop or a gamechanger, most of the cards were easy to communicate and keep track of their state and triggers, and I don't know how that is, but it was, at least back then. Maybe it was because there wasn't all this condensed jargon of keywords, and conditionals, ignoring banding of course

Holy shit crawling hit me hard in the nostalgia department.

That four-copy rule could totally work nowadays what with the pile of alternate arts

Speaking of MtG settings and D&D: have you tried MtG tabletop RPG like Guildmaster Guide to Ravnica?

I think the best gift I’ve received is a painting of the Invocation Daze by my now girlfriend

Got those unstable and unsanctioned lands as a birthday gift, now I have a binder dedicated to lands I’ve collected

I somewhat recently found my old cards at my parents as well, and I have my childhood card box I drew all over. A Keldon Warlord and a Lord of Atlantis. One of the sides has the orcish oriflamme skull and the other has a crudely drawn magic logo. It was missing my decks, but it did have a TON of my old bulk, and it was very exciting to slot into a silly goblin deck *my* Goblin Chirugen and into a competitive Magda deck to replace a Dwarven Armorer with *mine* and fill it up with white border Revised mountains. I would have loved to find my blue deck with 4 Ancestral Recall, but I guess we can't win them all. Thanks for the great podcast Sam
