I first saw this film earlier in March because an online friend of mine recommended it. He served in the military and he was also part of the IED disposal group. He told me the most accurate scene in the entire movie wasn't even the IED scenes themselves. It was the grocery store scene at towards the end of the film. He said and I quote "You go from the only choice is trying to stay alive to having hundreds of choices just for cereal". It's exactly why Renner's character had that aggravated/confused look at the cereal aisle. War is a drug, indeed.
