Jonathan Patrick

The Insider by far. Michael Manns best other than Heat.

Matthias Goetzke

The Insider was a masterpiece. True Story too. And coming hot of Gladiator seeing Crowe act here was eye opening

Tyler Foster

The Insider has been one of my most-wanted reactions from you guys ever since I started watching and even though this poll has only been up for a few minutes, I'm excited seeing the huge lead.

mikethemotormouth

Could it be time for my favorite Robin Williams? What a tearjerker! And based on a true story.

Nicotti

I think the poll title is fine. Short, gets the point across.

Florian Meier

Love this Poll, but i would put "As Good As it Gets ", "In The Line of Fire", "Ghost", "Basic Instinct" on the Poll

Scott

It's insane to think about all the terrible Best Picture wins of the 90s - ponder the movies not here!

Tyler Foster

Well, that didn't last... hopefully it will be competitive in the long run.

Dor

Awakenings is hard to beat.

Michael Buhl

Both The Grifters and Barton Fink have Oscar nominations, although neither of them are Best Picture Oscar nominations. Nevertheless, they are both excellent movies.

ElmSt Reactions

In the name of the father, for me as Daniel Day Lewis is great

Boris-N

How about a poll for Palme d'Or winners per decade? Would be fun.

Lynette Cummins

I choose Awakenings. It tugs at those heart strings.

Smooticus

Geeze talk about a hard list. Guess I'll just pick 'em all

Smooticus

Sam would adore Shakespeare in Love

thomas king

In the Name of the Father is so good. Bugsy is really good too

Carol Rocha

I thought you had likely seen this one, but I’d need to check. Spectacular film

Roy Wright

Don’t make these two wonderful people watch The Crying Game

Paul Cox

SPR is on the channel from years ago.

Tinker

Awakenings 100% please!!!!

ron clint

The Insider is directed by the great Michael Mann ( Collateral, Last of the Mohicans, Heat, Manhunter etc. Excellent true story with masterclass acting from Pacino and Crowe

Paul Cox

Still early, but I'd be happy with a 3-way tie for Awakenings, Quiz Show, and The Insider. But mostly Awakenings.

YoureMrLebowski

Personally I think the Academy got it wrong for Best Picture 1998. Saving Private Ryan was the best picture.

Antmovies

I can't believe AWAKENINGS is winning. 😁😁😁 Penny did not get the credit she deserved as a director, maybe not even as an actress. 🙏🏼 Most of these are great. I'm not a big DDL fan so there's that. But I'm willing to fight the SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE vs. RYAN'S PRIVATES battle. Anytime. Anyplace. That warmongering crapola is on my all-time worst list.

Antmovies

It's good. And it's more of that 90s shock cinema that they're getting acclimated to.

thansen

Definitely Quiz Show.

Roy Wright

I think it is overrated and not enjoyable but everyone has their preferences which is cool

Lou@Jersey

'Malcom X ' , 'Three Kings' , 'Philadelphia' , and PLEASE, PLEASE -->'Identity' (even though it's 2003)

Marcus Cato

Hard to believe two movies that great were not even nominated. The Academy was so stuffy, especially in the 90s!

YoureMrLebowski

Is there something specific about this particular warmongering film that it is not a favorite? 🙂

Renee S

Frankly that's the one I think would be most fun, lol. Infamy rules in my mind. Could they feel any worse about it than Rosemary's Baby? I feel doubtful on that point.

Birdie Num Num

have you thought about a poll with runnerups from previous polls? I see Face/Off lost by one vote in the action poll and City of God lost by 3 in the foreign poll. The Substance was runnerup in the women directed poll. Count of Monte Cristo was runner up in Adventure film poll. Hell or High Water was runner up in 2010 Best Picture Nominee poll. lots of popular titles, would be interesting to see how they fare vs each other.

F.O.T. Snax (Michelle)

Warmongering crapola? You realize it was just telling history, correct? In fact, I feel it was rather anti-war.

Antmovies

Welp as a Gen Xer we were brought up to believe in never ever ever going to war because of Vietnam and the films hammered that message home. Apocalypse Now, Coming Home, The Deer Hunter, Come and See... On and on, War is bad. Then come along Stevie and Tommy with their PTSD inducing rah rah America SAVING RYAN'S PRIVATES. And then Band of Brothers. Next thing you know the newer generation are being trained by Call of Duty just in time for 9/11. How convenient. I can't tell you what makes me hate it sooo much in this regard without spoiling it. But taking the movie on it's own without the propaganda it's the same plot as WATERWORLD. With the same stupid ending. The only thing worthwhile is the technical aspects which is why I generously gave it a 2/10 on IMDb.

Antmovies

Technically good otherwise horrible plot, one note idiotic characters, evil message.

Tyler Foster

I'm still really hoping that even if they go into a long backlog for edits, they could record one of these runner ups every once in awhile and give Patreon an extra full-length. (Maybe that will be more feasible once "Last of Us" ends and they're back down to one TV show).

Tyler Foster

Glad to see The Insider has experienced a surge that puts it ahead by one vote. I saw Awakenings for the first time recently and liked it, but if I were picking an underrated Robin Williams movie, I would probably go with Moscow on the Hudson. Also, it's a shame that Sense and Sensibility and Secrets & Lies aren't doing better. Both great movies that I'd suspect are losing just because fewer people have seen them. I also agree with Lou's comment below: Malcolm X and Three Kings would be great to see on future polls (as well as Spike Lee's earlier masterpiece, Do the Right Thing).

Birdie Num Num

I honestly don't think they have time for extra full lengths, they have full time jobs and are raising a toddler. I saw them talk about being reactors on a podcast - just sitting down and recording a full length isn't as easy as you think. It is like a job, you need to be physically and mentally ready to talk, be engaged etc. Its not really similar to watching something on their private time. You can't just roll out of bed and hit record, there is some prep involved(I mean I'm pretty sure they are wearing makeup, and have to adjust lighting, put on their TBR shirts etc). I think its safe to say no reactor that watches stuff on their own "reacts' in any way similar to the way they do when they are doing their job.

Tyler Foster

I asked this question to them directly on another post a few months ago, and Sam said it's definitely editing time that is the problem more than recording time. To be fair, this doesn't mean they have an excess of recording time, but she did make it sound like recording an additional movie was something they could do and would consider.

Claudia

yess to awakenings!!!

John Fitzpatrick

I've never seen it on their channel. I just searched, but it's not there.

YoureMrLebowski

2/10 😆. Well, it could have been 1/10 so that's something.

Steve Mercier

Holy shit! The Insider is up there! Very fucking cool. Spectacular true story by the great Michael Mann, and with a stellar cast. Fingers crossed and all (really, most of these are pretty damn good).

QuiGon_Jim

Does anyone know if there is a tinfoil-hat emoji lmfao

Chris B.

"The Insider" is the best of this bunch and it's not even close, IMO. Quite possibly the best movie from Michael Mann and Russel Crowe each, and that's really saying something considering their stacked filmographies.

David Wilkins

The Insider is great, but I’m pulling hard for Quiz Show. Such a unique story, beautifully produced, and fantastic directing by Robert Redford.

Donna Castellano

I'm hoping for Quiz Show. Never run across a reaction to it. I'm fine with Awakenings winning tho.

Donna Castellano

It was all political. Weinstein was the reason it took Best Picture and Best Actress.

Donna Castellano

It was one of the first things Sam was a part of the reaction for. Think it was prior to them even having Patreon so it makes sense there's no full length.

Backlog Andy M.

In the name of the father. Daniel Day Lewis. True story. Total in justice of the British legal system 1970s. The known Birmingham 6. Pub bombings 💣 done by the IRA.

Tyler Foster

The pain I'm gonna feel if The Insider loses by less than five votes...

Birdie Num Num

Seems like some of you need to see Secrets and Lies(or more Mike Leigh - his film Hard Truths appeared on a lot of top 10 lists for 2024)

Jonathan Patrick

I’m really happy to finally seeing the Insider get its flowers on a react channel. My personal favorite from Michael Mann, Pacino and Crowe. I saw this movie at AMC theaters, alone at age 17 and I remember being totally blown away from Manns masterpiece, so great at building up tension. The soundtrack, the performances, it became one of my fave films of all time.

Jeffrey Miller

Quiz Show is so good and I never see anyone react to it.

PIG

I think it's still one of my top 10 favorite films. I'm glad it's getting more attention over the years.

Jonathan Patrick

Finally getting its due. This is one I’ve been waiting a few years hoping it would make it lol

PIG

"WIPE THAT SMIRK OFF YOUR FACE"

Jonathan Patrick

Michael Mann built tension probably the best I’ve ever seen in a drama with the Insider, the music, acting and directing , it was a masterpiece in my mind. I remember I went as a 17 year old by myself to the theater to watch it bc nobody cared to go with me lol. I was intrigued by the trailer at 17 , but I have always loved film. Al Pacino has some very awesome acting scenes as well as of course Crowe which imo was robbed of the Oscar here and I always felt the Gladiator Oscar was to makeup for it. Btw A Civil Action with John Travolta is my fave courtroom drama, but the deposition scene in The Insider is by far my favorite legal “court” scene ever. That lawyer was badass lol

PIG

A Civil Action. I’ll check it out, thanks!

Jonathan Patrick

Yes please do, it has a good cast, Robert Duvall, James Gandolfini, John Lithgow, William H Macy, and of course Travolta, based on a true story. Let me know what you think. I’ve been recommending it for the channel for a long time lol

Henry Graham

I suggested Secrets & Lies for the Monthly Movie Draw. Such a great film, and I'd love to see more reactions to Leigh's work.

Jonathan Patrick

When will this reaction be posted. I’m really excited for this one 😎
