The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 7 'Convergence' Full TV Reaction!!

I'd have to agree that season 1 was better because it was a complete story. Ellie's character motivations are also frustrating and confusing. Part of it feels like Ellie knows she has plot armor which is just bad writing. She wants to be with Dina, but she does everything she can to make sure that doesn't happen as if she knows she can't die because she's the protagonist. I also agree that it'll be Dina that shoots Abby and there's no real tension with the cliffhanger. I honestly would have liked more world building with regards to the war between the WLF and the Seraphites. I'd like to know how the war started and why the Seraphites believe what they believe. Hopefully they'll do that more with season 3.

The writing of Ellie is infuriating. Craig Mazin is trying so hard to make the switch work, he's making Ellie much worse than Naughty Dog's version of her. Yes, she was always selfish (I don't believe she's reckless, that's just more selfishness) but the show going full on with this to make the audience dislike her, to help ease them into rooting for Abby is almost trying too hard. The balance was more-delicately handled in the source material, and of course she was capable in the game (not as capable as Abby, but still a badass that made mostly logical choices). The problem with the cliffhanger ending was always going to exist (and the season was always effectively going to end at this point), and whilst it was perfectly placed in the game it doesn't work in a show that's going on a two-year hiatus. Splitting the story into two (or more) seasons means they now have to decide how to market season 3. They can include Ellie in that (and if it turns out she's dead, it's the whole Joel-gate in the game thing again*) or they leave her out of the marketing, so the audience now believes she's dead and therefore the cliffhanger doesn't work (or at least it's spoilt before the new season even airs). That said, it was a broadly solid season, with some infuriating writing decisions as noted, including a scene that was cut from the game 'cos it served no purpose and just muddies stuff here (Ellie ending up briefly on the Seraphite's island). The ending with Abby's 'Seattle Day One' title card gave me chills! Finally, Bella Ramsey does the writing of her character no favours. Sick of tiptoeing around it. She's comfortably the worst actor in the show bar one or two moments (this doesn't mean she can't act), and it's also nowt to do with her not being 'Ellie' - she was frustrating (miscast?) in GoT, too, for me. *Joel was included in some of the marketing for the game. Initially fans realised very quickly that he'd been killed off, so they changed the marketing to frame it as if he hadn't been IIRC.

There's bad writing in parts, but Ellie is essentially selfish - just like Joel was. She wants to have her cake and eat it as she has shown repeatedly. It's not plot armour, although her and Dina have had their fair share this season of that! Won't comment too much on the rest, but there's a lot more Seraphite stuff on the way and it should be in next season (there's rumours of a fourth).

I'm one of the ones who is actually looking forward to the next season if it goes the route I expect it to. I've played the game, so let's just say it's definitely an eye-opener. I'm just not one of the people who unfairly gives an actor/actress unnecessary backlash because they are not in sync with their character's choices. Ever since Laura Bailey (the voice actress for Abby in the game) got death threats, I just can't really depend on most others' perspectives besides my own. The second season definitely has its flaws, but I still think it was an enjoyable overall experience. I believe the third season (whenever that is) will give people a better visual for Abby besides just wanting revenge at her for Joel. But we'll see. Everyone on this show is doing an incredible job with their roles, and it's heartbreaking to see Jesse just get snuffed out like that. In the meantime, guess I gotta find something to bide my time until the next season comes out. Thanks, Daniel and Sam for reacting to this so far!

I'm not a gamer. I really enjoy this series!

The show runner did say we are not supposed to like anyone. It's people making bad reckless choices. If that's the case the show is doing its job. It's funny I have seen gamers react to how the game 🎮 went back. And they were very frustrated 😠

This is why I really love it when they make really good movie/show adaptations of video games coz a lot of people who don't play video games would really enjoy a lot of these stories.

This is the problem with how show's today are more like mini-series instead of actual TV shows. There's only so much you can do in 7 episodes. I can see why people say this season went down hill after episode 2, especially when they spend an entire episode doing a Walking Dead style complete segway to Joel and Ellie in the past. Don't get me wrong that was a great episode but when you only have 7 to tell a complete story, you're kind of blowing it by spending entire episodes that don't do anything but give you bits of the past. It was way better when shows had 20= episodes, Although it is true back then there were a lot of filler episodes that didn't have anything to do with the main season's story arc. I think the common thread these days is to provide less and demand more for it. You see it everywhere. In the case of TV you see it where seasons used to have 25 episodes, then 18, then 15, then 10.. Now TV shows used to tell a full story in 7-10 episodes.. Now you have TV shows spreading full stories over two seasons. Squid Game season 2 is another example of this. It's a 7 episode season where it's clear they're not gonna tell the whole story in the season and it ends on a cliff hanger that really is the middle of a season. I thoroughly enjoyed this season but I think the declining value of what you get and the completeness of what you get is not a great sign.
