Comments

Waitamin... I thought you guys already did this one on the channel 🤔

TBR Schmitt

Maybe Inside Man?! This one is new! -Sam

Tyler Foster

Gonna kill me to have to wait until I get home from work tomorrow to watch this...

Shehab Dawoud

Damn.. I gotta get my sleep. I will be watching this as the first thing I do after coming back from seeing Superman tomorrow!

Steve Mercier

Looooooooooooooooooooooooove this movie. One of the best 'based on a true story' movies I've ever seen. Pacino rocks as usual, but Russell Crowe gives such a controlled, angry performance--it's spectacular. And Christopher Plummer as Mike Wallace (who I remember from back in the day, because I'm fucking old) is goddamn on-point.

PIG

I agree with every sentence here.

Jeffrey Miller

You should really watch 'Michael Clayton' if you like this.

Paul Cox

^ what he said!

Backlog Andy M.

Very hard hitting drama. And great acting 👏

Backlog Andy M.

The look as Sam gave Daniel as he tried to be quiet while eating 😬😬😬😆

Citizen Kane (1941) could be categorized as an investigative journalism movie. Although it's much more. It's only right that you guys would react to what is often voted as the greatest film of all time. I'm sure at some point Saul had a lawsuit against big tobacco.

Florian Meier

Great Film ... Looking forward to your reaction Guys !! I love these type of Thriller like this or All the Presidents Men ... Next Pacino would be "Sea of Love" for me ... Great Thriller and a great Reaction .... Other Oscar Nominated 90's Films you must watch are "Ghost", "Basic Instinct", "As Good As it Get" (Jack Nicholsons 3rd Oscar Win)

Future Boy

I've been holding off a rewatch of this for years, waiting for a good reaction to watch along with. Thank God you guys did it before anyone else I follow, because I would not have got this experience anywhere else! You mentioned at the start how many great Michael Mann films you've seen. Incredibly, you still haven't seen my favourite, Thief (1981). It's a masterpiece of a heist movie, which I'm certain you'll love.

TBR Schmitt

I have seen Citizen Kane but Daniel has not! 🤯 -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Yay! Honored to be your first rewatch in so long! Definitely want to get more Michael Mann on the channel! -Sam

For me, this is Mann’s best work with Heat a close second.

This is just a great film all way round. But the biggest reason why I love it is Pacino’s performance. This was old school Pacino’s of the 70s, much more subtle and nuanced. From 1983 on when he did Scarface, he decided to just dial it up and shout every time he got the chance. Sometimes it works, sometimes it’s annoying and too much. But this was a great balance. A performance in a similar vein is Glengarry Glenn Ross. Other Pacino movies: Serpico, …And Justice For All, Sea of Love, The Devil’s Advocate, Any Given Sunday, Insomnia, The Irishman. More Michael Mann: Thief, his first film and one of his very best. Miami Vice which I’ve got a soft spot for, it gets too much hate because it had the same name as the iconic 80s show. And Public Enemies.

Hey Sam, have you thought about trying a "Golden Age of Hollywood" Poll again? Films just from 30s, 40s, 50s. You last had one in Jan 2023(Maltese Falcon won) . I was the one who initially suggested that poll (I also suggested film noir, foreign film, and adventure polls - guess I have made good recommendations:) The only poll I suggested that you haven't tried out yet was a romance poll.

Tyler Foster

Although I can't watch this for a few more hours, I see from the comments there are some suggestions of other journalism movies. Obviously, Spotlight (2015) is probably the "big" one, but my other favorite true story journalism movie (aside from All the President's Men, which you already watched) is an indie film called Shattered Glass (2003). It stars Hayden Christensen (in his best performance by a country mile) and Peter Sarsgaard, in a story about a scandal at the prestigious DC political magazine the New Republic. I put on Shattered Glass for the first time at 1am many years ago thinking I would end up stopping it and finishing in the morning, and instead I not only watched it but was so fired up when it was over I honestly wanted to watch it again immediately (although I did in fact force myself to go to sleep). Most of the other movies about reporters or journalists I like are all fictional, even if they draw from the truth. Some on that list include Nightcrawler (2014), Broadcast News (1987), The Parallax View (1974). The only other true-story journalism movie I can think of (which I like but don't think is nearly as good as Insider, All the President's Men, or Shattered Glass) is Good Night, and Good Luck (2005), directed by George Clooney.

Pacino's best without any doubt: Scarecrow. I agree with you that over time he became a caricature of himself. I guess it's the Hollywood effect

Shehab Dawoud

I hope you also react to Awakenings, which finished 2nd in the poll. It's a fantastic film with great performances and also loosely based on a true story.

Joe Lazarus

Guys, will you be reacting to Dexter Original Sin and Dexter Resurrection in the future???

PIG

I grew up on 60 Minutes. Every criminal, politician, and CEO would quake if 60 Minutes gave them the spotlight. There was integrity there, and unshakable power, from journalism. Don Hewitt really created something and I love how this movie caught the importance of that show. But this movie really forcast the direction of journalism and money and it's sad. It's also all political now too. It's going to take a lot of time and wasted energy to get trust back from society.

Hey Tyler saw you won the Popcorn in Bed trivia night? what movie did you pick?

Tyler Foster

I won a long time ago. As with all PiB I submitted a list. I think it was: • Charade (1963) • Moonstruck (1987) • Riding in Cars With Boys (2001) • Ghostbusters [Extended Cut] (2016) and the one she chose, which was Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), which I think turned out to be one of the best reactions on the channel.

Birdie Num Num

oh, I thought you won again because your name was on her trivia winners poll yesterday(but I'm not a paid member so I couldn't read all of what was said)

Tyler Foster

I did win again, but second-time winners only get the gift card. The first winner that has never selected movies gets to choose.

Dave Carmichael

This is the last reaction you have done that I have liked until Pluribus. Get MUCH better.
