My dad's favourite. A long one. Well acted. I remember watching the 1991 Oscars with my mum when this got the big ones. And really made Kevin Costner a huge star then!

Best picture and best director. I was torn because that was the year of Goodfellas. So hmmm..!

Movies like these really challenges your perception.. Having not lived through the times I cannot be sure but it does seem accurate historically. Certainly for many years we have known that native Americans were systematically exterminated. However this movie challenges you to consider both sides. It makes you understand the simplicity of the Indian culture and also shows the wisdom and at times naivety. Costner really sunk his teeth into this role. Thanks guys. BTW I hope you guys are planning on adding Dexter Original Sin and Dexter Resurrection to the list!!!

Hope you react to Killers of The Flower Moon at some point. It’s tough but a great and important film.

“Kicking Bird” was played by the amazing Graham Greene, who was the first prisoner to be executed in “The Green Mile” and played Ben, the police chief in “Wind River” opposite Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen & Jon Bernthal(an excellent movie to watch as well); and he was the Rez officer in “Thunderheart” with Val Kilmer! ❤️ Everyone should watch this movie at least once in their lives! 😊Great reaction, guys! So glad you loved it! 😊

I think what I love most about this movie is how it shows you're not really defined by where you come from, but how you interact with your community. And for Dances with Wolves, his community was a horse, a wolf, and the Lakota.

Open Range (2003) is my favorite Kevin Costner film. It's also a western film.

The Buffalo hunt scene was 100 percent real (except for the killing). The cast actually rode/chased with all those buffalos. What a great movie. Great reaction. Costner at his best! And I'm pretty sure it won every single Oscar award. Every. Single. One.

Chris Bruneau

this is a wonderful film, and I was lucky enough to see it on the big screen--the vast panoramic vistas were amazing! Costner loves to show off the beautiful scenery also, since you enjoyed this, you both should do Open Range--an excellent film!

James

the man at the beginning who says he pissed his pants and nobody can do anything about it and then self-deletes is symbolism of the madness Kevin Costner was leaving behind

I thought I had commented before but Idk. Anyways I just wanted to say a couple things. One, it's one of my all time all times. I just never get tired of this movie despite always being left sad. I guess there's the thing where I now they're not gone, not at all, but haven't been treated right, lots of broken treaties, just saying. But one of the things I loved was that they spoke the actual Lakota language because of, oh I can't remember name (Doris Leader Charge, that's a badass name btw), but she was the wife of the chief, Ten Bears, she taught it to the cast who were drawn from many different nations. I love that people are still trying to keep the language alive. And the Buffalo hunting scene is insane, that was a hell of an action sequence and the details of how it was filmed, like they brought in a team of actual Native stuntmen who rode bareback, no saddle no stirrups, and were incredible. And one just quick fun fact, opening scene when Dunbar goes on his second run to basically die, the shot that kills the Confederate sniper fella, the Union soldier rising from one knee after he just took the shot is Kevin Costner's dad. He was on set to watch and mentioned how he'd always wanted to be a Civil War reenactor and so he got to be.

Step up is a dance movie. This movie is about a dancing dog right?

Kicking Bird played by Graham Greene, is from my reservation. Our Reservation is called Six Nations of the Grand River, Oshweken Ontario, about 30 mins outside of Brantford Ontario. He grow there for a bit, my grandmother on my mom’s side her mother knew Graham’s parents, my uncle Sidney knew Graham growing up and were friends for a bit. He’s also a great uncle of one my cousins that passed away 20 years ago, he was at the funeral and my parents were sitting right behind him during the ceremony. My tribe is Tuscarora, my parents took me to see this film back in 1990, I was 6 years old, I remember sitting there, not moving, not asking to go to the bathroom during the 3 hour run time. When I got older I asked my dad and mom why they took me to see this film at such a young age. They said it’s because it was the first film to show our Indian ancestors and culture in a positive light, and actually had Indian actors and actresses playing themselves in this film. This film moves me to tears every time I’ve watched since I was a kid. It’s sad to see time and place where we could have coexisted together and been force to help bring our people together and our country. I’m 100% American Indian, as I’ve gotten older, I’ll be 41 this September, have this feeling in me to become closer with my tribe and my people, obviously I assimilated because I grew up in world where my culture relocated to the historical non fiction books at Barnes and Noble. Yes are we getting more Representation within the film industry, we are. It’s still not enough. Love Kevin’s respectfulness towards our culture and our tribes. Truly thank you for reacting to this beautiful film. Hopefully someday you get to see Thunderheart, another great Indian film, Starring Graham Greene and Val Kilmer. Also Graham Greene received a Best Supporting Actor nomination for this film but lost to Joe Pesci for Goodfellas that year.

No, it’s not funny to make jokes about film that’s not just about Kevin Costner Character but also about my Indian Culture. Not cool.
