Severance!

Roy Wright

I was the only one of my family that liked Tenet. I saw it by myself at an empty theater during the pandemic. I would watch a movie directed by Nolan that was someone just sitting a reading a phone book so I may be biased lol but I really enjoyed it.

fallingupdownthere

Damn, some bangers. Tenet will be divisive but I love it!

Alexander Ocean

Oh man can’t wait for Prisoner of Azkaban! Definitely different than the first two, in a very good way!

Stephen Malloy

I have not seen Tenet and hear so many conflicting opinions about it. I’m sure our faithful reactors will sort it out and give us a good show.

Nolan is my favorite director (after seeing Prestige when it came out, so I was earlier to the party). Tenet was my least favorite of his on first watch but I've re-watched it more than any of his other movies. I don't exactly understand all that's happening in the plot but it's still inexplicably mesmerizing to watch (at least for me). It's the weirdest relationship I have with any movie.

Jen Barnes

I'm really looking forward to seeing you get into the perfection that is Severance. It's addictive. In fact, I suggest you binge the entire thing before putting it up, just to prevent spoilers.

EdmanXERO

I've never seen Tenet before, so this'll give me that boost to finally check it out. I DO know that's Denzel's son. This will be my first time seeing him in a movie, as well.

Tyler Foster

Honestly, to me, that is the appeal. It is Nolan trying to free himself of some of his own crutches. I think he is often perceived as precise, mathematical. Tenet's philosophy is, as one character says, "don't try and understand it. Feel it."

Jeff M

Tenet needs a "second time watching." Nobody can understand it on first watch.

Ashton Rice

Tenet is my all time favourite movie. Nolan’s pitch to the studio was “don’t try to understand it, feel it.” That’s a good mindset to watch this movie with. Especially on the first viewing. Give it a chance with an open mind!

Tenet. Only ever watched 👀 that once. Few years back now!

Philip Alan

Smash that subtitle button on Tenet. :)

Martin7777

Azkaban and A Little Princess (my monthly movie submission) share the same director; Alfonso Cuaron from Mexico

Lock_Down

Can't wait for the HP3 masterpiece

Santiago Hardy

Unsolicited opinion: The Prisoner of Azkaban is where I feel the Harry Potter films really began to come together as a more mature, and entertaining story. From that point on the stories get more intense. So much to look forward to!

Chris Bruneau

I saw Tenet once--after it was over, I was like WTF did I just watch???, it made no sense to me at all....

Charles Davies

Love Tenet and PoA is probably my favourite of the Potter films, good week!

AdrianF

I love all of Nolan's stuff apart from Tenet (once and done for me). But I also love that we're getting weekly Potter, and 'making' me watch the first two again in ages has made me realise they're not that bad - the rest are still miles better IMO.

Shehab Dawoud

As Philip said, turn on the subtitles when you watch Tenet, as the sound mixing is pretty bad. I'd say you should have subtitles on for all movies, as the sound may be bad sometimes, characters could be whispering, which is hard to catch. It has happened before.

Christopher Larimer

Oh man, super hyped for Tenet (very curious if you guys will understand it at all lol), but ultra hyped for PoA.

What does sorting hats results mean?

TBR Schmitt

We’re trying to watch as quickly as we can for sure! So far we haven’t had anything spoiled in our long shows but we’ll definitely take that into consideration! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Too late now but Daniel made the same comment! 😂 -Sam

Philip Alan

AHHHHH! Yeah, Nolan loves to mess with the audio in his movies, especially this one. The subtitles helped me on 2nd viewing! Anyways.. I can't wait to see the reaction!

TBR Schmitt

Oh no way!! Director of my favorite movie - Children of Men! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I think a second watch is definitely needed! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Haha I’m glad you changed your mind! Maybe tenet can be better this time around too! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Wish we’d seen this before but I think being able to control the volume on our headphones helped! -Sam

Just to add more info for non HP fans, when you join the school at age 11, you are place into one of four houses. Each houses strives for a particular quality; bravery, ambition, cleverness etc. On your first day, the "sorting hat" is placed on your head and it reads your mind to decide where you'd best be suited.

Martin7777

What other things do you like about the movie? What do you think other people miss

VonPunk

Ah I recall you guys referencing Tenet like you'd seen it a bit back, I was worried you'd watched it off channel but maybe you just recorded the reaction some time ago. Really is a movie that is better with more than one watch, i'm sure you had no time to watch it twice in a row then do a discussion but it'll be fun to see how you came up on this one after a first watch. Like several Nolan movies, I'm sure you'll watch it several times in future to fully appreciate it.

Backlog Andy M.

Robert Pattinson tried to cover up a phone 📱 call on the tenet set with Chris Nolan. Saying he had a family emergency. Nolan went your going to audition for Batman aren't you. The secret was out!

Ashton Rice

I could probably write a multiple page response to this so I'll attempt to keep it succinct. I think what puts a lot of people off of this movie is also what makes it so great, that is the confusion and incomplete knowledge of things that are happening (at least on initial viewings). Not fully understanding scenes and events provides an opportunity to view the same movie and scenes in different perspectives each time you gain more knowledge of what's happening. For example, look at the scene where The Protagonist meets Neil for the first time in Mumbai. Neil orders drinks for them both, The Protagonist says that he actually "prefers soda water", which Neil then responds by smirking and saying "no you don't". On first watch this is seen as just a generic joke about how nobody actually prefers soda water over sweet drinks. However on subsequent watches, now having the knowledge that Neil has known the protagonist for years, we can see this line from Neil's perspective, where it has a much deeper, emotional meaning because it's not just a throw away joke but an almost inside joke showcasing the intimate friendship and experiences they will share eventually. I could talk a lot more about other things I love about this movie but then we're getting into essay territory lol. I really think that this movie not only gets better with rewatches but essentially requires at least one. I think the overwhelming feeling of confusion people have on the first watch puts them off of rewatching. With all that being said I do understand why some people didn't like the film. It's certainly a mentally engaging film and you need to put active effort in to follow along. It's not my choice for casual movie night by any means but I think it's a fantastic piece of art that you can return to and enjoy again and again with different perspectives/meanings each time.
