Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (2010) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

Raven Dark

Sam and Daniel, do you know when you're putting up the last film? Is it next week, or will there be gap between them? If there is a gap, I may just wait to watch both at once.

Christopher Larimer

Oh hell yeah, perfectly timed with my week off from work coming to an end after this weekend, best way to end it with a great reaction from my favorite reactors :)

TBR Schmitt

Working on the full length edit! So should be soonish

RIP Dobby. Saddest death in the series. We only saw him in two movies, but he was always around in the books, helping Harry and the gang. In the 4th one, he is the one who gives Harry the gillyweed, allowing him to breathe underwater. They gave that role to Neville in the movie. In the 5th one, he is the one who tells Harry about the Room of Requirement, where the kids could train. Again, they gave that to Neville in the movie. Speaking of the Deathly Hallows, Sam guessed right, Harry is a descendant of the brother with the cloak. Not his grandfather, you have to go a few hundred years back. But yes, that cloak was passed down for generations. And Voldemort is the descendant of the brother with the resurrection stone (not the sorcerer's stone). So Harry and Voldemort are distantly related! Their connection started long before he tried to kill him. Some people wear a Deathly Hallows necklace to symbolize that they believe in them, as there are a lot who think that it's just a fairy tale. The reason Harry couldn't just magic the sword from the lake is that it has to be taken in an act of need and valor. You really have to risk yourself. But how it got in the lake, how Bellatrix had it... You'll find out in the next one, if you haven't already seen it! The same for the other Horcruxes and more details about the Elder Wand. There was one scene that they filmed, but that was cut from the movie. It's when the Dursleys are leaving. Aunt Petunia acknowledges her sister's death, clearly sad about it. Immediately after, Dudley shakes Harry's hand as they say goodbye to him. You can find it on YT. I wish they'd kept it in. A bit of depth and redemption. In this movie, Peter Pettigrew was just knocked out, but in the book, Harry reminds him of when he stopped Sirius and Remus from killing him, so he hesitated to kill Harry when he had the chance. His magical silver hand then strangled him. I don't know how you feel about that. Don't be hard on yourselves. A lot of things will be revealed. It's difficult when you split a book up. I can't wait for your reaction to Part 2!

Forgot to ask after the last movie, Sam what was more upsetting Dumbledore or Howard? Or how this one ended since you already seen it? (im just starting the reaction)

Jen Barnes

I'm so happy you've already seen pt 2, I've been living in terror that someone will spoil it for you.

Jen Barnes

Awesome reaction, it came at the perfect time for me to watch, so thanks! I was going to answer a bunch of your questions but I heard that you were watching part 2 right away so I won't bother with most since they will be answered in the film. A couple things: Harry, Ron, and Hermione were on the run for about 9 months, so they were exhausted, frustrated, and terrified. Plus the locket messed them up with it's evil mojo. The baby room in Bathilda Bagshot's house was part of the next door neighbors. They simply went through the wall during the fight with the snake. It was confusing. Ron saying there are 3 horcruxes remaining is his mistake. So far they have destroyed the diary, the ring, and the locket, but they don't know the total number yet. I am DYING for part 2, I am going to be rewatching these reactions forever.

Marcus Cato

The books became increasingly dense at this point in the series, so there is nothing remotely surprising about being a bit confused about some of the plot details. I think your confusion at this point is pretty normal!

Marcus Cato

I would have liked that scene with Dudley to be in the movie. It was a nice wrapup to his character to see that something has awakened his ability to change.

Raven Dark

Yay! I'll definitely wait, then. Hope you liked it!

Gary

As you're going straight into part 2 now there really isn't any point discussing things, from this as you'll have all the answers from watching part 2. I will just reassure you both that you're not dumb, sure you really should have worked out what RAB was from the half blood movie but as far as this films goes you really aren't missing anything, you just get names wrong but it's your first watch, who remembers every name they hear from one mention. Just on the baby room, I'm certain that's a recreation of Harry's room from when he was a baby, the books may elaborate on this but I haven't read them. Dumbledor always had the elder wand, if you remember you can see it in previous film's, lastly you should be understanding that if you disarm or kill someone thier wands allegiance is now with the one who disarmed . You two still with the I don't think there dead stuff😂, everyone is dead who died! Great reactions again, this film is so dark and heavy at times but with little sprinkles of humour, I honestly think they could of made another 3 movies myself.

It's not your fault you got confused at times. The previous movies, especially movies 5 and 6, had to cut A LOT out. A lot of the "new" characters in this movie were introduced in previous books but were cut out of the movies because they didn't know these characters would be important in the end (the last book hadn't come out yet when most of the movies were made). In the movies, Regulus Black is only briefly mentioned once. In the books he was mentioned a few more times , especially in book 5. However, he dies before the events of the first book so we never meet him in person. We do learn a lot about him though and his story is very interesting. I won't go into details, because I hope that they flesh out his character a bit more in the TV Show and I don't want to spoil that for you in case you decide to watch it. Bathilda Bagshot was constantly mentioned in most (if not all) of the books as the author of one of their school textbooks, but that's about it. Mundungus Fletcher (the thief) was part of the Order of the Phoenix, he was never very trustworthy but he owed a lot to Dumbledore and so he was somewhat loyal to him and his "underground" connections were useful to the Order. He was recurring character in books 5 and 6. Gellert Grindelwald is briefly mentioned in the very first book and then maybe a couple more times after that. He was a dark wizard whom Dumbledore defeated years before Tom Riddle became Voldemort. We learn a bit more about him in the Fantastic Beasts movies (although I'm not a big fan of those). And a couple more things that the movies cut out that tend to make people confused in this movie: In book 6 we learn that Sirius had a will written before he died and he left everything to Harry, including his house and Kreacher. That's why Kreacher obeys Harry's commands even though he hates it, he's bound by magic to obey Harry. But one of the biggest things that got cut out of previous movies that turned out to be important was that mirror fragment that Harry keeps looking at throughout this movie. It is part of a pair of mirrors that can be used to communicate, kind of like FaceTime. Sirius gave one to Harry and kept the other so that they could talk. After Sirius dies, Harry breaks the mirror in anger, but later he gets this habit of carrying a fragment of it and looking at it every now and then for comfort. As you learn in the next movie, Sirius' mirror ends up in Aberforth's possession via Mundungus and he uses it to keep eye on Harry and to send Dobby to rescue them from that dungeon at the end of this movie. There's A LOT more that is kind of important that was left out of the previous movies. It's like you said, it doesn't prevent you from understanding the important events of the last two movies, but there's a lot of detail that feels a bit weird or that seems to come out of nowhere in this movie if you didn't read the books. Sorry for the huge comment, I hope it's helpful though!

Dumbledore’s sister wasn’t killed by muggles. She was assaulted by them one day and her father then killed them. She was killed by getting in the crossfire of a battle between her brothers and Grindelwald.

> Just on the baby room, I'm certain that's Harry's room from when he was a baby That's a nice thought, but probably not true. In the books, the Potters' house was in ruins and in this movie we see the ruins as well. That was just a room in the house next door, probably belonging to muggles.

Wow they have whipped through these films. My wife is due to get these films out at Christmas 🎄 😬😬😬😬

A lot of reactors find this movie slow and say nothing happened - but I’m with you! I think it’s constant trouble and really fast paced with tons of new info! I think it sets up the next film very well! I also got the most emotional over Dobby because he was truly pure and just wanted to help. There’s a real place where they have Dobbys grave and people put stones and socks on it. Super heartwarming.

I love Dobby but let's not overlook Hedwig's death 😥 Bathilda's scene is so creepy. You guys are doing great, it's a lot and you are getting it.

Gary

I didn't think it was his literal room, I was thinking it was a reproduction by voldermort, for some weird reasoning in his warped mind.

Serious is at a farm upstate. He's fine.

Matthew Maxon

As Serious' heir, Harry became the *owner* of Kreacher & the house.

Luna's father Xeniophilous means open to everything while Xeniophobic means the opposite of course. Now that you know about The Deathly Hallows you can play Hogwarts Legacy.

Nagini pulled Harry to the side because she didn't want Hermione to hear her talking in Parsletounge(sp?), then attack him.

About the Horcruxes, Voldemort wanted to split his soul into 7 parts (1 inside his body + 6 Horcruxes). That's why Ron said they had 3 left. You've seen DH part 2 so you know how it all ends up. In the novel Hermione doesn't just erase her parents's memories. She alters them to give them new identities and relocates them to Australia. She fully intends to bring them back and revert her spell if she survives the war. I was devastated when Hedwig died reading the novel. Then hearing about Moody's death was very sad. I ugly cried when Dobby died. He was so good and innocent. Especially as his role was developped in books 4-6. I ugly cried a couple more times but that's for stuff covered in DH part 2. Like you, I really enjoyed the different locations throughout the film. That rocky cliff was impressive and the snowy forest was really quiet and peaceful. It was beautiflly shot by Portuguese cinematographer Eduardo Serra who handled both DH movies. He mainly worked in European films and these were the last Hollywood projects he did. He worked with M. Night Shyamalan on Unbreakable. He passed away last summer at age 81. A scene that was created for the movie was the dance between Harry and Hermione. I thought it was a very touching moment especially how it ends with them back into sadness. The song was O Children from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds who I always associate with the Scream movies because of the use of their song Red Right Hand. Alexandre Desplat takes over musical duties for the last films. He did Fantastic Mr. Fox for Wes Anderson in 2009 and since then has been his primary composer. He did Grand Budapest Hotel. A very talented French composer. My favourite new themes for this film include the aerial battle (especially the tunnel chase) and the trio's escape from the Ministry of Magic.

In case no one else has posted this…Voldemort actually used magic to instantly be told whenever someone said his name. Hence the snatchers showing up at Looneys and prior to this we see it at the diner when they run from the wedding. I highly recommend reading the novels. Can’t even begin to recall all that was cut from them.

Hermione erasing her parents memories of her to pretecte them breakes my heart every time. Devastating.
