Help pick the Sci-Fi movie we will react to!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

*NOTE: I have seen Looper, Pacific Rim, Upgrade, and Waterworld so this would only be Sam's first time watching!

Me (an hour ago): I don't think there's a lot of sci-fi movies left for us for a poll Google: Hold my beer Patreon: You've reached the maximum number of poll choices Whoops! -Sam

Carlos Estrada

Nobody ever reacts to looper so I’ll pick that one. But akira is a second pick forsure🔥. Have a goodnight guys!

Ian

Holy frig that's a long list lol some crackers in there though , it's going to be quite a battle this one

Paul Cox

Thank you for including Repo Man. It won't win this (or any other) poll, but it warms my Gen X heart.

David Martin

Can I check them all to make sure you watch all of them?

fallingupdownthere

Finally we may get a reaction to Primer one of my all time favorites. Well, looks like Gattaca, so much for that.

Gary

Some good films there but hoping Allitta wins. I don't mind if her wins also, just not sure that is a watch along kind of film as, love it though. Source code could of been such a great movie, just seems they only wrote half of it and gave up! Brazil is such a typical Terry Gillam Monty python type film. So weird but great.

ButtercupsTrueLove

I'll suggest "Jumper" (2008) and "Push" (2009), two unrelated films that share a story about young people with extraordinary abilities and the forces that seek to contain them.

Michael SCH

Your discussion of Primer will probably be longer than the film! Otherwise, a good collection of movies, so I'm happy regardless of which film wins.

Chris

Solaris! 🙌

Athos Count de la Fère

Sean Connery has a sci-fi movie from the 1980's called "Outland". It's a good flick. I recommend it for the next sci-fi poll.

Keith Brown

This needs to be split in two. (A) Classic movies made before 1975. (B) The other movies.

Eric

People having not seen Akira and it isn't winning the poll. Y'all gotta do better lol.

Paul Cox

I saw it at my anime-loving friend's house in high school, but I'm not the audience for it.

Miles E Coburn

Yep. It's been called "High Noon" in space. In some ways it is, some ways it's not. It's a favorite of mine and I was so happy to see it come to the 4K format earlier this year.

Tyler Foster

i need about five or six of these to tie for first.

Ben Castonia

So we can vote on multiple choices?

Tyler Foster

If a Patreon poll has square checkboxes at the front for selection, you can choose multiple options. If it has a circular radial button, then you can only pick one.

My new name (he/him)

I voted for Artificial Intelligence and Alita: Battle Angel. Both are pretty emotional.

DoomGummy

Add Sphere to this list. Sunshine is amazing, please choose that one! Or at least keep it on your polls.

Domino

Oh my god, Her is actually winning right now?! I just came here to mope at the fact that it's never going to win and I'm dying to watch you guys react to it. Fingers crossed that it keeps going!

Dan

YES! I can't believe my favorite underdog GATTACA has a bit of a lead right now! Woohoo! I'm hoping it wins, but even if it doesn't, I'll take this as inspiration that people are catching on to how good it is.

Red

Would have to seen 2004 THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT up there

thebeefmaster

"K-Pax" (2001) "The Man from Earth" (2007) "Predestination" (2014) "Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel" (2009) "Safety Not Guaranteed" (2012) "Being John Malkovich" (1999) "Frequency" (2000) "Moon" (2009) "Short Circuit" (1986) "The Fifth Element" (1997) "I Origins" (2014) "Edge of Tomorrow" (2014)

Florian Meier

"Space Cowboys" with Clint Eastwood and Tommy Lee Jones is also a Good one

Smooticus

Had to put one of my votes for Akira. I first saw it in 88 or 89 at the Balboa Cinema in Newport Beach. I was already kinda into anime, but I saw this and thought my head was about to explode. I became a huge anime fan for about the next 20 years

Max Rinaldi

Thank you to let us choose more than one film, because picking only one would have been terrible.

Alex

Please, no Repo Man.. will give me PTSD from my past.... Kidding. Flight of the Navigator FTW!

Long-time Sci-Fi Enthusiast

I suggest these films, 1975 (Rollerball) Sci-Fi / Sport, 1984 (The Philadelphia Experiment)Sci-Fi / Thriller, 1972 (Silent Running) Sci-Fi / Adventure, 1973 (Westworld) Sci-Fi / Western & 1980 (Flash Gotdon) Sci-Fi / Fantasy.

Michael Buhl

Solaris is an incredible movie, but it's a deep philosophical movie, not a "pew pew" gun fights with lasers movie. It's in Russian, so the subtitles are important. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for both Repo Man and Brazil! They are wonderful! I suppose Trip to the Moon (1902) is really the first sci-fi movie, but Metropolis is part of the beginning of sci-fi cinema, and it's a masterpiece.

Ken Veader

possibly the most influential and wild film on the list

Alex

Does Tommy Lee Jones chase after Clint Eastwood in the movie? I don't think I've ever seen a more typecasted actor than Tommy Lee Jones. lol. Note: I'm not dissing him, they're all great movies and he's a great actor. I just think it's funny how he's pursuing a fugitive in every single movie he's in. (at least to my knowledge)

MacGuffinStuff

This is one of those polls where I had to be honest and vote for, I think 7 different movies on the list. But Gattaca is winning at the moment and I love that, it's really a favorite of mine and I think an underrated classic. But it's all wins this category.

Vincent Hollow

Back when it was still new, I fell asleep watching Samurai Jack on Toonami, and when I woke up around 2am, the TV was still on, but it was the ending of Akira and I had never seen such anime in my life. It took me years to finally figure out the name of it and it's been my favorite anime film since.

Vincent Hollow

Moon is fantastic. I gotta rewatch that again, it's been years since I last saw it.

Vincent Hollow

If not for this sci-fi poll, it would also work for a foreign film poll, but ANIARA is a fantastic film.

Charles Davies

Primer is such a brilliant film thats perfect for a reaction and discussion, a shame not many people have heard of it or seen it

Tyler Foster

Among the more contemporary entries, I'm most surprised that Sunshine isn't proving more competitive. I would have thought audience would want Sunshine more than either Gattaca or Her.

Paul Cox

People who love Sunshine are somewhat evangelical about it (myself included), but I suspect fewer people have even seen it compared to the other two—it disappeared from theaters immediately. And then, among people who HAVE seen it, there's a pretty sharp divide on the film's third act. I suspect we'll get to it eventually, but I don't know what kind of poll it will ever win.

Birdie Num Num

Well Sunshine had basically the same amount of votes as Gattaca and Her in the last sci fi poll in November '24 (Dark City won by a big margin. Gattaca had 93 votes, Her 89, Sunshine 87), so I also share Tyler's surprise at how different the numbers are this time. Guess its all the Harry Potter fans that just signed up recently(I'm really curious how many more new patrons there are compared to a year ago, guessing its a pretty significant increase - and now with Mission Impossible there will be even more new patrons I imagine)

YoureMrLebowski

I love a close poll. I voted for Gattaca, currently winning by one vote. To raise the stakes, I shall remove my support for Gattaca. Now it's tied, 92-92, and I'm a swing vote. Court me. 🗳️🙂

YoureMrLebowski

2 days left... Gattaca and Her tied at 94-94!
