James

About time!!!!!!!!!!!

Roy Wright

Better off dead needs to win this poll lol

Shehab Dawoud

Not one of my favorite genres but there are a couple that I wanted to see on here: As Good As It Gets (1997). Oscar winning performances from Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt. The other is Enough Said (2013), one of James Gandolfini’s final and best performances. Yes, Tony Soprano in a romantic dramedy!

Yann Laliberte

You watched When Harry met Sally, now Sleepless in Seatlle is in this poll.... maybe you should also include You've got mail

ButtercupsTrueLove

"Heaven Can Wait" (1978), a modernized remake, and "It Could Happen To You" (1994).

Steve Mercier

Mooooooooooooooooonstruck! But...only with 2 o's.

Gary

Good to see a Woody Allen film in there, he's made some excellent comedies and would be great to watch you react to them. I actually really like About Time, Sam you would love it I'm certain. I know you have a foreign poll coming up I think it would be good to see Betty Blue, Parasite, Memories of Murder and the Invisible Guest on it.

Paul Cox

Honestly, doing 'An Affair to Remember' and 'Sleepless in Seattle' together for Valentine's Day would be so perfect, but I don't believe that's gonna happen.

Athos Count de la Fère

As a guy, I don't really go for rom-coms. That being said, I personally have seen Moonstruck and Sleepless, and I actually liked them. They have my votes.

Keith Brown

This needed to be split in two catagories- (A)True classics before 1970. (B)The others made after 1970.

John Fitzpatrick

I wouldn't call The Graduate a rom-com, but I'm glad it's here. If Annie Hall is on here, you should also have Manhattan on this list.

Paul Cox

There are a handful of others here too that makes me think it should be titled the Romance/Rom-Com poll. The Graduate has some humorous moments, but a rom-com it is not (same for An Affair to Remember, About Time, and arguably Breakfast at Tiffany's).

Don

Punch Drunk Love (2002) is more drama-romance (though I think it's funny), but it's listed as a rom-com. It's the only romantic movie I've ever purchased and re-watched (and I'm a very important person so that should carry a lot of weight). If a slot opens up, I recommend adding it to the list.

Miles E Coburn

Hopefully you don't take the criticisms of your inclusion of "An Affair to Remember" and "The Graduate" as not being Rom-Coms to heart. I wouldn't really call them criticisms; more like gentle corrections so future polls (if they don't win this one) would be more in line with what you're trying to do. I can see why movies like these pop up when you haven't seen them, so you don't know, and you're relying on a search engine looking for the terms "Romance", "Comedy". IMDB lists "The Graduate" as a comedy when it's only by stretching the definition it would be classed as such.

Tyler Foster

Tragically, they've both seen Parasite, which would have been near the top of hypothetical reactions. I think my top 3 TBR Missed Opportunities are Parasite, Casablanca, and the Coen Brothers' True Grit.

Paul Cox

If The Graduate were to win, it wouldn't be so off base that people would gripe imo. The all-time miscategorized winner will probably forever be The Game winning the "detective" poll (and that was just a case of people ignoring the theme and voting what they wanted to see).

Paul Cox

Those, plus Children of Men for me.

Tyler Foster

I requested Moonstruck on a channel where I'm in the top tier this month, and then a second channel I watch chose out of the blue, so in the last week I've watched it 2.5 times (I put it on in the background with an older request just to hear the reaction part again). Yet, if hypothetically it were to go up on your channel tomorrow, I would watch it a 3.5th time with zero hesitation. Can't speak for An Affair to Remember, which I have yet to see (although I get the impression people in here are correct), but I disagree with anyone saying The Graduate belongs on a different poll. People are saying it's not a comedy? Of course it's a comedy! It was written by a comedian, it was directed by a comedian, and it's incredibly funny, and it is also a romance. That it has other notes of melancholy and other stuff mixed in there, well...is anyone arguing with The Apartment? That's got even heavier parts! Also: Moonstruck was written by playwright John Patrick Shanley. Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail are both very famous Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan team-ups, both written and directed by Nora Ephron, writer of When Harry Met Sally. However, Hanks and Ryan have been in *three* rom-coms together, the first of which was written and directed by Shanley: Joe Versus the Volcano (1990). I like Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail is okay (I prefer the original that it was remade from, Ernst Lubitsch's The Shop Around the Corner from 1940), but Joe Versus the Volcano is a delight and it gives Meg Ryan a much different sort of opportunity than the other two movies (but I'll keep that a surprise).

Paul Cox

Truthfully I don't think I understood what Joe Versus the Volcano was trying to do when I first saw it 35 years ago, but revisiting it as an adult was a completely different experience. I loved the whimsy and I loved the outlook and now I rate it just slightly behind Sleepless (but that's because Sleepless is an all-timer for me) and way ahead of You've Got Mail (which has never worked for me on almost any level).

David R

Charade IS NOT a rom-com. I guess it would be a sus-com. It's more "Knives Out" than "When Harry Met Sally". And TBH, from this list, you can't watch just one of these. At some point in your lives, at some point in EVERYONE'S lives, you need to watch ALL of these. Starting with the Academy Award-winning Best Picture, It Happened One Night, and continuing in chronological order, because one influenced the next, and that one influenced the next, and the next, and the next...

Vincent Hollow

Honestly there's so many classic titles here that I'd love to see, I'm gonna have trouble narrowing it down.

Domino

You guys should add As Good As It Gets (1997) to the romcom pool!

thebeefmaster

"What's Up, Doc?" (1972) "Zorro: The Gay Blade" (1981) "The Great Race" (1965) "Support Your Local Sheriff!" (1969) "Bringing Up Baby" (1938) "His Girl Friday" (1940) "You Can't Take It with You" (1938) "Overboard" (1987) "Foul Play" (1978) "Ferpect Crime" (2004) "PK" (2014) "Michael" (1996) "Born Yesterday" (1950) "Ball of Fire" (1941)

Browniewin

OMG, so many excellent movies to chose from. I had a hard time picking between Roman Holiday, Some Like it Hot, Moonstruck, The Big Sick, and Charade. Ultimately selected Charade, even though it's not a typical RomCom, but none of these should be missed.

Gary

True Gritt is excellent, Shoplifters and Chungking Express and two other good foreign films.

Florian Meier

Great Poll !!! But "As Good As it Gets" is Really Missing !! Jack Nicholsons Oscar Perfomance !! Another Great One is "Overboard" with Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn !!! From These i would Pick Charade or The Graduate

Gabriel DiLaurentis

I'll be rooting for Some like it hot. Marilyn Monroe is amazing. So is Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis, Jamie Lee Curtis' dad. That movie is the OG white chicks but with good ol mobsters.

Brandon Meng

Some absolutely mandatory films on this list, About Time my favorite, but it's still missing: Forgetting Sarah Marshall Midnight in Paris Love Actually Punch Drunk Love Can't Hardly Wait Silver Linings Playbook 500 Days of Summer Zack and Miri Make a Porno She's Out of Your League Along Came Polly The Heartbreak Kid Knocked Up Apologies if you've already covered some of these.

Smooticus

some great selections on here

Smooticus

How to Lose a Guyin 10 Days = How to lose $20 in 90 minutes.

Alex

The Apartment is not really a comedy, but it's very good. It's the French movie Wicker Park was based on if it's the one I'm thinking of. Both are very good movies. The Apartment is darker than Wicker Park, and has a different vibe to it. Wicker Park is probably one of the better romantic movies out there, that's different than the usual Notebook, Titanic type love stories. It's still a love story so has a lot of the same elements. It's just not the stereotypical story.

Paul Bunton

“His Girl Friday" (1940)

dieselbeast

Fools rush in! Mathew Perry and Salma Hayek! I know Sam will enjoy that! It has Blast from the Past vibes!

24fps_

It holds up so well, the dialogue is so witty and fast... and jack lemmons facial expressions are just hilarious in this...

Forrest

Whenever there's a poll where I don't know of most of the movies, haven't seen most of them, or just don't have a stand-out to me, I end up usually picking one that is 50+ years old just because I know most people likely haven't seen it, and it would be an interesting addition to the channel.

fire12wife

LOVE that movie, so great!!! It's my favorite Matthew Perry movie!

Marcus Cato

Random thought: there has been chatter about having more classic movie polls. Seeing Roman Holiday and Charade getting so few votes definitely confirms the wisdom if that suggestion.

Marcus Cato

Agreed. Some absolutely essential films on that list!

John DiGiantomasso

While You Were Sleeping! Sandra Bullock, Bill Pullman. Peter Boyle... so sweet, incredibly clever and funny, and a GREAT Holiday Season film!

Matthew Blackwood

I think they’re talking about the American one with Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine.

Matthew Blackwood

ABOUT TIME is more than a rom com, and you will adore it! ROMAN HOLIDAY is quietly one of the best films ever made. Hope y'all do both eventually!

dieselbeast

Its a great film, one of my favorites!

Vincent Hollow

I love WYWS. Its hands-down my favorite Sandra Bullock film. "Is this guy bothering you? It looks like he's...leaning."

ewalsh

I agree. Love While You Were Sleeping!

ewalsh

Has anyone seen French Kiss? Also with Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline

John DiGiantomasso

The Great Race us an epic Blake Edwards (Pink Panther, 10) comedy! Tony Curtis and Jack Lemon again just having a ton of fun with it!

Paul Cox

Mid-month, this still seems to be a two-way battle between Pretty Woman and Sleepless in Seattle. I strongly prefer Sleepless, and it's almost too perfect an opportunity to view on or around Valentine's Day.

Eugene

It’s not going to win but Annie Hall is a classic.

David Wilkins

For future reference, Roxanne (1987) is a wonderful romcom. I’m not really a romcom person, but it’s in my top five. Steve Martin steals the show, but the rest of the cast is great.

Dan Holmes

Hope you guys check out the Graduate eventually. It's not a Rom Com but a coming of age artistically groundbreaking cinematic Masterpiece. Nothing really like it, especially at the time.
