Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

FYI, looking into the upcoming Planet of the Apes movie: Details are still being kept secret, but it is produced by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the two people who spearheaded the contemporary Apes franchise. Jaffa and Silver wrote and produced Rise and co-wrote and produced Dawn before stepping back just into the producing role for War and Kingdom. When this one was made, it was supposed to be the beginning of a new trilogy, and they still seemed like they wanted to do it after Kingdom opened in theaters. As of right now, in the reports about this new movie, the only trade out of the three majors (Deadline, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter) that mentioned the Kingdom sequels was THR, and they said there was no clear answer as to what might be happening with Kingdom sequels now that this was announced. However, this new movie, which will be directed by Matt Shakman (Fantastic Four: The First Steps and "WandaVision"), is by the same writer as Kingdom (Josh Friedman). To me, all signs point to this being a project that operates with the assumption that the audience already understands the current Planet of the Apes universe, and that it is probably pretty unlikely to be a reboot that tells the same story as Rise through War, and more likely something similar to Kingdom where it picks up in some other part of the timeline. But we'll see!

My hope is that if the next film is the final film of this rebooted series of films that it will finally bridge the connection between these movies and the original Apes franchise. I'm hoping the next film will take place at the time of the original POTA and end with the teasing of Taylor and his ship crashing into the water.

I liked this a lot more than I expected. Maybe not quite as strong as the Matt Reeves films but pretty close. There's a Raka-like rumble at the end of the credits so I think he's alive.

I would much prefer that over a reboot, so that's good news! -Sam

Very amusing. My only suggestion is that maybe sequels should be more spread out, just in case some of your paying customers have an aversion to certain mythical and scientifically speaking, staggeringly unlikely, animal mutations. Maybe the cheesiness of the original idea and its execution could also be a factor, despite the inexplicably high IMDB rating.

This was so much better than I expected and I agree, I want more! I'd heard mixed reviews and I tried to watch it before but I think I was just very tired or something and didn't get past the first probably 20 minutes, but this is a movie I plan to watch again and again. And there were definitely some references, call backs etc to some of the POTA lore, I haven't seen all of them, so many, but I remember one was about human survivors who kept the atomic age technology. I love that they include little eggs for the hardcore enthusiasts, I'm not, but now I kind of want to rewatch all the originals.
