Jason Dolan

The Vanishing might be my favorite movie of all time

Brad P

Amazing choices! I voted for everything but Martyrs which is a very well-made film but might make for the roughest reaction video of all-time. And, yes, I specifically voted for Infested because I know exactly why Samantha added the "hehehe".

Duncan

Yay! 🏆 Dawn of the Dead (1978) won Life is complete 🎉 When you go on Amazon prime video ,you will see that there are 3 versions of the movie ,the best and safest option is ,to just go with the theatrical cut ,as that is the version that everyone watched

Hunter DeRensis

Let the Right One In (2006) is going to run away with this poll, but I also voted for The Vanishing (1988). In a future poll, I would absolutely include the Japanese horror Cure (1997), which was the first film in a long time that made me worried to go to sleep with the lights out. The French horror Diabolique (1955) is also a masterful classic.

Will Knox

Oh man, I actually just rewatched both The Wailing and I Saw the Devil...both are excellent! I definitely voted for Suspiria though...a classic I think every cinephile should see! 💖

Will Knox

I just rewatched that a few weeks ago for the first time in about 20 years and I'd completely forgotten just how unsettling it is. And that ending...sheesh.

Jeromy M

Martyrs is a wild one.

Paul Cox

Oh I want to see a reaction to The Vanishing so much, but that's not necessarily a spooky season type horror. You can do it any time of the year (don't forget, though!). Let the Right One In and Suspiria are my two other main horses in this race, but I'd be happy to check out The Host as well.

Matt

Widows Bay for spooky season show! 👻✌️😊

Matt

I watched about 30 minutes one day and couldn't continue 🫣

Richard Maurer

While there are many good choices I have to go with Let the Right One In.

Brad P

I agree that the Theatrical Cut is the best one (as well as being Romero's preferred version) but I'm only seeing the 139 minute "Cannes cut" available on Amazon streaming.

jjkcharlie

I feel like Sam is hoping for infested, for which reason I dont know.

Guston Zimasheen

Love the "hehehe" in the "Infested" nominee. Who put that in I wonder, considering the subject matter?

Jeromy M

Tough watch for sure.

Eric

If Let the Right One In (2006) wins, be sure you have access to the English Theatrical subtitles. When they initially released it physical media, it had dumbed down subtitles that altered the dialogue (it was obvious in some places). After much outrage, Magnet updated the media to contain a Theatrical subtitle option, and we had to buy it again. I'm not sure if your source has the right subtitles. Physical media today should have the right version available. Good luck.

Duncan

I am seeing all 3 ,all depends on your location I guess ,there are a ton of free ,full uncut versions of the Theatrical Cut on Youtube anyway ,also netflix and many other streaming sites ,the Theatrical Cut is the most readily available.

Eric

Let the Right One In isn’t bad, I just don’t find it to be nearly as good as the hype. I feel like it falls into the category of “this is the one most people saw.”

Birdie Num Num

The Vanishing is something special. calling it just horror doesn't do it justice. maybe it'll win the spin wheel someday. It may have been the first foreign language film I saw(in the 80s, not many foreign films were at Blockbuster - Ebert gave it a great review - I think he helped many films get a higher profile back then)

penoyer79

Audition is the correct answer. The Vanishing is a must watch as well. Lot of recency among the voters. Martyrs is fucked up, I'd advise not watching that one. That movie is just mean spirited.

Duncan

Indeed ,something fishy going on here with the addition of ''Infested 2023 hehehe'' I checked the cast half expecting to see Sam's name in it ,but no ,so for which reason is a mystery I guess

Duncan

Never mind ,I have just seen that it is spiders ,Sam is just taunting Daniel about his spider phobia ,devious indeed 🕷️ 🕷️ 🕷️ 🕷️ 🕷️

RedPyramidHead

Some Japanese horror movies I recommend watching: Noroi: The Curse (2005) House (1977) I Am a Hero (2015)

Keith Brown

Good Luck to the winning film . This time of year my films will always be Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein or Arsenic and Old Lace to watch this time of year.

Michael Buhl

Black Sheep (2006) It's a New Zealand horror/comedy.

Jimbob

Let the right one in is my favourite film of all time. Please let the right one win.

Backlog Andy M.

I can honestly say not seen any of these films 😬

thebeefmaster

"Let the Right One In" is 2008, not 2006

Max Rinaldi

Checking... "Martyrs" is one of the least voted. Guys, you're dodging a bullet. This was going really to mess you up.

Jon

How happy was I when I clicked Let the Right One In to see it's currently in the lead.

Chris

The Wailing is a masterpiece! 🙌

F0ZYWOLF

What about The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari 1920 one of the first horror films

Richard Maurer

As a new patron I was pleasantly surprised to see a foreign horror movies poll - not something I've seen other reactors do. If they put any foreign horror at all in a poll it inevitably loses to American films. so making the poll exclusively foreign is a gift as far as I'm concerned.

Richard Maurer

You're missing out. I could honestly vote for any of these movies.

Richard Maurer

I've seen almost everything in this poll, and could voted for any of them but I preferred LtROI just enough to vote for it over the others, Audition was a close second though.

Richard Maurer

But a good movie nonetheless. It has a story - not just torture porn.

OddThomas

I'm ok with Let the Right One In winning but Suspiria, The Host & The Wailing are just as good

Eric

I voted for The Wailing. I like Suspiria as well, but if I’m honest this isn’t my favorite list of foreign horror. There’s some good ones on here, not many bad ones, but the best aren’t available imo.

Future Boy

If you didn't like the first 30 minutes, you were right to stop. The final 30 minutes are truly horrific. The only way I'll ever rewatch it is if Daniel and Sam react to it. No other reactors. Just them. But I still think they probably shouldn't.

Vincent Hollow

Even though it's not a foreign language film, Australia's LAKE MUNGO is one of the best found footage/mockumentary-style horror movies I'd seen in awhile. And one of the best surprises Ive seen in a movie since The Sixth Sense. As far as foreign language film, though, WHEN EVIL LURKS (2023), an Argentinian horror film, is fantastic. Brutal, intense, and powerful.

Birdie Num Num

Are you a Hitchcock fan? Critics called The Vanishing Hitchcockian, its a thriller not horror. Less violent than Psycho, its pretty subtle and psychological. Its worth a look.

Birdie Num Num

I mean compared to PIB, this place is cinefile central. Many there have a very narrow taste in film, every other day I hear someone say "I've never heard of this old film that won a hundred oscars, was beloved by millions and influenced so many directors today." Or they say they never heard of Robert Eggers(its interesting, they don't know old movies but certainly don't know new films either - its like they are stuck in 70s/80s/90s - time has stood still for them) Or the amount of times they say "I don't like to read movies, so no foreign films for me" - I would probably laugh at loud if anyone over 16 said that to me IRL(yeah I'm a jerk I guess) It feels like its almost an anti-film forum at times. While here films like Bridge on the River Kwai and Patton beat out Hurt Locker and 13 Hours in war film polls. The Warriors beat Face/Off in an Action poll. You'd be hard pressed to see that happen on any other reaction channel. And TBR even had a Sidney Lumet Poll! Crazy. 90% of PIB patrons probably have no idea who that is...

Marcus Cato

Plus one for Diabolique.

Marcus Cato

I still feel kinda guity how much I enjoyed the Arachnophobia reaction lol

Marcus Cato

I really loved Kwaidan (1964). But It may not meet the definition of a horror film for a lot of people.

Marcus Cato

Some great weirdness in that silent period.

Paul Cox

I must admit I'm kinda surprised a Face/Off reaction has yet to materialize, though. The Warriors won by a single vote iirc. But otherwise, I agree. I feel more comfortable here than anywhere else in the reactorverse suggesting lesser known or more demanding titles because I know there'll always be at least one other patron who'd back me up. And on top of all that, Daniel and Sam seem genuinely interested in exploring! They don't always love what they just watched, but the outro discussion is worth staying around for every time!

Richard Maurer

I wasn’t going to call out PiB - it’s not their fault their patrons are stuck in the 80’s/ 90’s, so they end up catering to them. But yeah anything outside the box a lot their patrons will have a fit over.

Marcus Cato

I'm with you on that. Cassie is very nice obviously but her community isn't real open minded.

F0ZYWOLF

Very true like The Lost World 1925 with its stop motion dinosaurs, it was also referenced in Up

Keith Brown

I remember the too dark for me original and even the American remake with Jeff Bridges and a then unknown Sandra Bullock as the vanished girlfriend. It's just not for me to watch again but thanks anyway .

Hunter DeRensis

I have to strongly disagree with your comment, and even point out that the reality is the opposite. Both TBR and PiB have an almost equal number of reactions to foreign films (mostly the same titles), although TBR has done three Korean films to PiB's one, but PiB has done two Kurosawa. As for classic Hollywood (1920s to 1959) it's a blowout: TBR has 12 reactions (by my count) and PiB has 41 (and she's about to add Citizen Kane). Even your examples, The Bridge Over the River Kwai and Patton, both channels have reacted to. You may feel like the PiB fanbase contains less "cinephiles," but if that's the case, it's had the complete opposite effect on the content.

David Wilkins

For future reference I strongly suggest Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001, France). It’s a genre bending mix that’s terrifically entertaining and beautiful to look at.

David Riedel

Nasty little movie. So great!

Paul Cox

Wow, I had a hunch Let the Right One In would probably be the winner out of these choices, but it's ~murdering~ everything else (which is appropriate for a horror poll if we're being honest—some kill, some get killed).

Paul Cox

It's not that Cassie doesn't provide reactions to older or more niche genres/titles...she very much does! It's specifically how many people in her replies complain about it when it happens. Hers is the biggest channel, subscriber-wise, that I'm a patron of. It's no surprise that a channel with more reach reaches more people, and not all of those people care about movies made before they were born. I'm personally baffled by that approach. There's roughly 120+ years of cinema to explore and I can't imagine not wanting to treasure hunt through all decades and genres and languages for something that might become a new favorite, or, at the very least, teach me something I didn't know about. But I understand there are a lot of people who are cable-brained. They grew up with movies that played on heavy rotation at HBO or wherever, saw them two dozen times, and mistake familiarity for greatness.

Birdie Num Num

That has been in past foreign film polls.

Richard Maurer

Hunter - if you’re speaking to my original comment at all then you misread my original comment. I was very specifically talking about a foreign HORROR POLL, not foreign movies in general ( I understand you’re probably mostly responding to birdie’s comment, but since you didn’t address him…). I honestly can’t recall PiB or any other reactor I’ve been a member of having an exclusively foreign horror poll. That’s not the same as watching foreign movies, or even foreign horror movies. It’s also not the same as a foreign movie poll.

mikethemotormouth

In the double aughts, there was a trend of American remakes of Far East horror. Naomi Watts in The Ring, Sarah Michelle Gellar in The Grudge but Joshua Jackson in 2007's Shutter was one that got overlooked and I don't know why. My personal favorite of the three.

Mike Gonzalez

The Vanishing is incredible. Suggestion for a future poll is Threads (1984). One of the most terrifying movies ever made.

Richard Maurer

Just glad I watched all the Japanese originals first. All were better than the remakes.

David Wilkins

Great to see the Right One with a strong lead — it’s excellent. 🎬

Angel Pagan

Some that I enjoyed are Argentina's Terrified (2017) and When Evil Lurks (2023). Both creeped me out and will be rewatches for my October Horror Movie Challenge.

Björn Karlsson

Hehe I just had to sign up again here 😄

Richard Maurer

Hey Bjorn! The horror’s fine over here, isn’t it?

Björn Karlsson

Yeah I like them. Especially a swedish one 😁 It could be fun with Troll hunter as well 😄

Paul Cox

It's on my extended watchlist, but that runtime is what's making me procrastinate. I'm sure its structure breaks it up somewhat.

johnsamseecass

I Saw The Devil would be hard viewing for Sam in particular.

Michael SCH

As someone who is into Asian Horror, it's great to see them on the list (although none of them will likely win in a poll). Recommend Kiyoshi Kurasawa's Pulse (2001) and Cure (1997) be added to the list (or any of a half-dozen of his films like Creepy (2016) or Cloud (2024)).

Paul Cox

Can't wait for Let the Right One In. Good winner, folks!
