The Substance (2024) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

Shehab Dawoud

Hell yeah! This was like The Fly meets The Elephant Man. Can’t wait to watch it!

Felix

went to an early screening of this not knowing anything and i left completely shocked and loved it lol

Paul Cox

Nope, not Lea Thompson. It's Andie McDowell.

Vincent Hollow

Is this a Cronenberg-Barbie or a Gerwig-Fly? Yes. Yes to both.

Birdie Num Num

Fun fact - not on second of this film was shot in LA - it was shot in Paris! Some good behind the scenes vids are on youtube

Roy Wright

Can’t watch that one again. Enjoy

Popcorn & Petty

Dennis Quaid was so gross. His mouth looked like a butt hole when he was smoking in her face. 😂😂 The moral of the story is: love yourself

Matt

Not sure I can watch this movie again 🫪😵‍💫😵😭🤣

Samolina Pilchard

Glad you made it through without throwing up! You'll have plenty of shots of you with shocked expressions to choose from for the YT thumbnail :). Lots of movies stylistically referred to here , including The Elephant Man, The Fly (as mentioned), but also Carrie and even Altered States (Monstro Elisasue reminded me of the final creature at the end of that movie), and Vertigo (some of Bernard Hermann's score was used here during Monstro Elisasue's getting herself ready in the apartment. For me, this is the best kind of Horror movie, a tragedy disguised as a horror movie , commenting on the human condition. The scene of Elizabeth getting ready for her date with Fred really illustrates that- she's judging herself against an impossible beauty standard- and the irony/tragedy is it's herself she's judging herself against- every time she's about to leave the apartment she'll see Sue on the billboard or whatever and she goes back to try to make herself up more perfect, until she gives up. Watching this time I noticed in the credits there was a thank you by the director to the extras playing the New Year's show audience for putting up with being drenched in blood .

The YouTube edited showing will be very interesting to see what can or can't be shown.

Sam: "I hope I win for a third time!" [*monkey's paw curls*]

Trivia: Ray Liotta was originally supposed to play the Dennis Quaid role, but unfortunately passed away before filming started.

Paul Cox

The only way I've ever seen this is via YT edit (because I can't do most body horror), so it's possible, but it was a choppier edit than most.

Florian Meier

:) i was only able to watch you're intro and outro Guys :) I'm never watching that movie again :) i recommend "Ghost" for more Demi Moore ;)

This movie is pure art and rather ingenious. I love how the first half of the movie is just spamming you with over the top butt shots and boob shots - and how aggressive they are in showing off and sexualizing Sue and her beauty.... and then the second half of the film they completely flip it on you and do the same exact thing but with the disgusting and gross stuff.

penoyer79

That role makes total sense for Ray Liotta. I could totally see him doing this part.

SP

There will be a YouTube version of this , right?

SP

Will you release a youtube version ?

Dave Carmichael

Well there's no chance of that going in my Movies Classic folder!
