Help pick the Scorsese movie we will react to!

We LOVED the feedback we got from our director poll! The Coen Brothers, Spielberg and now Scorsese! We've noted where the votes fell and all the comments you've left so we can't wait to explore more directors!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

*We haven't seen these films unless noted above. If you disagree with the genre, you'll have to take it up with Google ;)

Jeremy V.

Not in love with any of these.

Edgar Gonzalez

You DEFINITELY need to check out "The Irishman"!

Jeremy V.

Actually I wouldn’t mind seeing Hugo again.

Paul Cox

King of Comedy should walk away with the win out of this selection, but we're really polling B-list (and lower) Marty this time.

Rue

Pllllllleaaaase oh please, whatever wins, promise you'll make time to watch Age of Innocence at some point. I know a lot of people have a lot of things to say about which movie is Scorsese's best and they usually wind up saying stuff like Goodfellas and Raging Bull but AOI would be my pick for his best.

Philip Davetas

KING OF COMEDY is interesting in that the movie JOKER shared the same story and theme.

Will Zamora

The Color of Money and After Hours are pretty good

mikethemotormouth

Hugo gave me a whole new appreciation for filmmaking But Alice is nearly dead last? Are we really gonna do Best Actress in a Leading Role winner Ellen Burstyn like that?

UNC

Irishman!

Florian Meier

Good Poll !! "The King of Comedy" and "The Color of Money" are the best

William 1611

Just my opinion, but I think Scorsese is one of the most overrated directors ever. However, his many disgraceful failures are redeemed by "Gangs of New York," one of the finest historical films ever made in America. On this list, "The King of Comedy" and "The Color of Money" stand out, but they're the pick of a very scrawny litter. They succeed because of the excellent actors, especially Paul Newman, Tom Cruise, and Jerry Lewis in the only good performance of his career.

Robin Heath

an entire poll could be devoted to Scorsese's music films btw... so here's an early vote for The Last Waltz 🎼

Dean Lamont

I like the king of comedy it deals with the dangers of being famous and fans but its like put real life and fiction in a blender and mix it up and you see what you got on screen

Shehab Dawoud

More like Todd Phillips just stole from it and Taxi Driver, and then cast De Niro so he could say that it's an homage, as opposed to plagiarism.

Shehab Dawoud

Maybe you've seen it but I'm definitely missing The Wolf of Wall Street here. It has its flaws but it is hilarious, sad, and crazy as hell considering it's based on a real person's life.

Marcus Cato

I really enjoyed Last Temptation of Christ, but I can picture that turning into a nightmare in the comments section. Mean Streets has a very young Richie Aprile. Definitely my favorite from the ones on the list.

Jason Dolan

Fun Fact the first Martin Scorsese movie I ever saw was THE COLOR OF MONEY

ED209

The Color of Money is really good but it is a sequel to Robert Rossen's film The Hustler (1961). You should see that before it.

Jonny Kerr (JK)

While you’re checking out Marty, check out The Band “The weight” featuring the staples singers. It’s just 1 song but Marty filmed the show before he was a household name. You’ll never see an old concert shot so well. And it’s an amazing song. The entire show is amazing. It’s rare to see a drummer be the lead singer too.

John W Foster

Hey, it's also the first Scorsese movie I ever saw, I was ten and my mother was a big fan of the Hustler (1961), so we went to see it at the theater. I know in the group of Tom Cruise, Paul Newman, Martin Scorsese and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, it's not my favorite movie by any of them, but it has a sentimental spot in my heart. :)

Jason Dolan

Nice to see it in second place in this poll 🥈

olly.enn

I wouldn't say that "Bringing out the Dead" is my FAVORITE Scorsese film, but it's most def the one I watched the most! When it's on I just can't turn it off! :-D I love that movie. Speaks to me on so many levels. A shame that so few people know of it... edit: ...maybe it IS my favorite...

Jim Barnes

Color of Money would be great, but you have to watch The Hustler first. Actually, Paul Newman would be a good rabbit hole for you to go down. Lots of great stuff.

Tyler Foster

Lots of people have mentioned it, and I just mentioned it in another post, but I'll reiterate for emphasis: you must watch The Hustler (1961) before The Color of Money, as it is a sequel (and The Hustler is a masterpiece). I will also agree with everyone saying to watch a few Newman films because it only increases the odds you'll get to the Coen Brothers' 1994 comedy The Hudsucker Proxy, which he is great in.

David Wilkins

As far as I’m concerned ‘The King of Comedy’ is a quirky must-see movie. Equally bizarre and unfortunately realistic. And I read somewhere that it’s DeNiro’s favorite work with Scorsese. I don’t know why ‘Hugo’ is so far in the basement, at least for now. It’s a dazzling, wonderful, and heartfelt love letter to the history of cinema. But…most people probably already know my feelings about popularity polls.

Smooticus

Not too many people have seen this little gem

MikeLL

I voted for Hugo. Scorsese really doesn't do it for me, but I understand why he has so many fans.

Domino

How is Goncharov (1973) not on this list?! Oh, you probably already watched it though, who hasn't? 😜 Okay that's a Tumblr meme not everyone understands so I'm kidding. But... Shutter Island (2010) is so good and underrated. Needs to be on the Scorsese list.

Domino

I'm with you on him being overrated. He has good films of course, but I don't think he's epic at all. But that's just my opinion, too.

EdmanXERO

Apologies if this was already answered in the the past, but if you haven't already seen "The Wolf of Wall Street" I highly recommend that, as well!

William 1611

I'd prefer "No Direction Home." But Dylan and The Band are so closely linked that it's a toss-up. With all due respect, I think those films are tributes to the musicians, not the director. They'd both be good entries in a Documentary poll.

Paul Cox

I agree with everyone saying you need to watch The Hustler, but I don't think it's necessary to have seen it before seeing The Color of Money. Most people under 50, if they've seen both, have seen The Color of Money first. You absolutely need to go down a Paul Newman rabbit hole, though. My goodness! Not every movie is great, but he never made a bad one.

William 1611

Scorsese had one brilliant idea in "The King of Comedy:" casting Lewis and DeNiro "against type." I won't say more because I don't want to spoil the plot for anybody.

Robert Boyd

Hoping Bringing Out The Dead wins. Nicolas Cage, Patricia Arquette, Tom Sizemore, John Goodman and a small role for Janice Soprano. You can’t ask for anything more!

Ian

Really hoping for the color of money although maybe watch the hustler first , Paul Newman is so good in both movies as fast Eddie 🙂

Vwlss Nvwls

After Hours is one of those highly overlooked gems. I suggest keeping this one around as a filler sometime.

Tommy Smith

King of Comedy is so underrated

Nick Sneddon

The King Of Comedy? incredible film

Nick Sneddon

The King Of Comedy is one of De Niro's finest imo

Birdie Num Num

As others have said, it would be absurd to watch Color of Money before The Hustler. And you've never reacted to a Paul Newman film(except Road to Perdition I think), he's one of the biggest movie stars of all time. He was on a roll in the 60s with iconic roles.

Robin Heath

The Last Waltz is more of a concert film with documentary inclinations, but yes indeed, your point is well taken.

Michael Buhl

The King of Comedy is excellent, and it's a nice complement to Taxi Driver. Also, Sandra Bernhard and Jerry Lexis are incredible in it. That said, After Hours might be my favorite movie of all time. (It's either After Hours or Aguirre, The Wrath of God.)

Michael Buhl

It's a Kafkaesque comedy like no other. It's easily one of my favorites.

Birdie Num Num

I suspect most here have never seen it. The fact that The Aviator will win the poll is telling - seems like more recent films usually win most polls.

Mr. Writhms

Thank you. I was looking for this post. 😁

mikethemotormouth

Maybe with a DePalma poll we can finally get Blow Out on the channel

Jeffrey Miller

No 'Silence'? It must suck to be a director and nobody cares about the films outside of your usual genres.

Shehab Dawoud

So... it looks like The Aviator will win. That's fine, it's a great film, probably should've won best picture that year. But could we at least get The King of Comedy within just a few votes, so that they'll have no choice but to watch it as well? It is so underrated, one of De Niro's very best performances and that is saying something! Besides, they've both talked about how much they enjoyed Joker, so why not? It's so obvious.

ron clint

Raging Bull? Or did you guys do it already?

OddThomas

Have you seen Shutter Island? Otherwise why is it not on the list? It's his best one imo

Jimmie V

I know his stuff is crazier than all the other directors that are more popular, but it would be cool if you guys did some more David Lynch beyond Mulholland Drive. Blue Velvet is amazing, but you can also go right into the deep end and watch Eraserhead which will be one of, if not the most, bizarre, mind-blowing cinematic experiences of your life.

zmt122

So sad that the Age of Innocence only has 15 votes and yeah Shutter Island should really be on here

john francis

my suggestion, if the decision is made to go down the David Lynch road (and esp after their reaction to Mulholland Drive) is to watch Elephant Man next. after that, The Straight Story. two great emotional stories with wonderful protagonists.

Paul Cox

I've wondered a few times if The Straight Story would lend itself to a reaction video, but I think in certain hands (like the Schmitts) it could work very well.

Smooticus

Hugo is also very under appreciated

David Wilkins

Especially when it comes to directors, I hope you’ll make prominent note of the top-voted four or five from any given list for future reference. It’s such a shame to miss all but one selection. Maybe in the future you could surprise the group by running a past strong contender (not just this list) as opposed to a whole new poll. Easier for you, and still recognizing some of the strong runners.

Shehab Dawoud

Bruh ain't nobody tryna watch that

Neal Romanek

Kundun is one of my favorite Scorses films, but so different from everything else, that's it's never going to win any poll. Check it out though. I put my vote for King Of Comedy because I know you guys will love it. Although Mean Streets was Scorsese's breakthrough feature film and - with a young De Niro and Harvey Keitel - it sets up beautifully everything he does for the rest of his career. Watch the original The Hustler (1961) and put The Color Of Money on the shelf for a while.

YoureMrLebowski

how about Scent of a Woman (1993)? continuing the prep school theme after Dead Poets Society.

Jango Jenkins

That was a great film! But why would that be included in a Scorcese poll?
