my fav anime of this season and it's not even close

closest feeling to first watching FMA many years back and I have NO IDEA who to root for which is a rare feeling

Scary part about those two soldiers at the end there is that this specific rock was shown 3 times this episode. First time with those 2 regular hikers who were sitting on a bench when Dera and Yuru came by. Second time with Asa and Gabby, who were sitting/lying on the bench respectively when they got picked up. Third time with those two soldiers, but now there's neither a bench nor the road-marker. Shows that those two are now truly trapped in some kinda parallel world.

There is something with the way FMA's mangaka writes character that makes them super likable from the start, its soooo good

Man, much like FMA there is something special to making your main character(s) fairly strong and competent. Having another example of a story to look at allows you to compare & contrast the series in a way that it's really going to get me into the head of the author. Hot damn, its making me feel emotions in ways that are catching me off guard, like my body knows I'm watching peak before I do.

The age difference thing is just a difference between the universal age system vs. the traditional East Asian one (starts at 1 instead of 0.) I think the only real significance it has is keeping the world building consistent, reminding us that the villagers were born and raised in traditional Japanese way without knowing about anything else.

I equate how Gabby acts in front of the villagers similar to how AoT’s Gabi acted towards “devils of the island”. Likely pure indoctrination to demonize the adults of the village (while children are deemed innocent.) Guess we’ll find out how warranted that treatment is as the show goes on.

I wonder whether this goes back to the number 0 being a very recent "invention". (Around 5th or 6th century in India, then around 9th century spread towards Islam and 12th century towards Europe)

Kinda interesting to think about a “what if” role reversal of FMA bros and these 2 Like what if they had each other’s upbringings instead… Just so happens the author did a focus on siblings again, so these kinds of thoughts occur to me randomly XD

I love that we can't tell who might be the good guys or the bad guys. That is just reality. Clearly this anime showed us a very good start. Well I guess some day I also finally have to watch brotherhood.
