Although subtle, little fun fact right at 13:23, princess Sorghaghtani Beki was indeed a Christian, specifically a believer of Nestorianism. It was a branch of Eastern Christianity that originated in Constantinople, but managed to reach parts of Persia and then was very succesful in widely spreading into Asia thanks to the many merchant routes that will later be known as the Silk Road. Even the Naimans, Töregene's native tribe, were mostly Nestorians by this point in history. Nestorianism differentiated itself from Catholic doctrine due to 3 key beliefs: - It argued that Christ had two distinct natures (divine and human) that were joined by a close moral union rather than a single unified divine person; - By extension, it objected to calling the Virgin Mary "Mother of God", preferring "Mother of Christ" because human mothers give birth to human bodies, not divine essences; - Believed that ONLY the human Jesus, not the divine nature within him, suffered, bled, and died on the cross.
