Finally! As a network engineer that deploys Cisco Phone systems professionally, I have been waiting for this. I got started doing the same thing with CUCME in Early 2020.

Can't watch till later, but I can't hear a Cisco phone ring without associating one of the default ring tones with the TV show 24

Question for you Mister Clab (lol) doesn't connecting the old gear to your home network scare you? It's insane security issue lol I would love to buy one of those old school terminal servers for cheap but they would be insane security issue

Feels a bit weird seeing a phone I still have in use on my office desk (7960), and realizing they're over 20 years old. Granted if it isn't broken, no need for fix it, and SIP hasn't really changed at all since then

clabretro

I'm a little more careful with computers, but it's pretty unlikely that a network device would be compromised. Plus the internal network is entirely behind a modern firewall and the retro rack isn't on the internet at all. That being said there is some level of risk.

Also you keep saying that vlan allows multiple networks over single cable. While yes this is true but it also allows to isolate ports on your switch into separate network, untagged vlan. Just a note/correction

Mark Heneghan

Got about halfway though the video before I had to stop. But, I’m at the point where I’m like, you need to setup your DHCP option value 150 to point the phone to the CM.

Just this morning in our company-wide all-hands I told the team "we're just getting started!!!" Big things ahead for Clabretro Enterprises. Let’s keep driving those synergies! 🚀📞

Never worked with Cisco phones but spent a long time working with Anaya phone systems. I was always afraid to breath too hard around them. They were very temperamental.

Pauliehedron

Which you like better, SIP or Skinny? MGCP made life so easy... if you could find a working IOS version. Heh

Thomas Eriksen

But can you register a soft phone living on your smart phone to your router? Very interested in how to do that…

clabretro

Don't have enough experience to say SIP vs. Skinny... other than generally speaking I'd say open protocols are the way to go 😀

clabretro

I suspect that's possible. In the future I'll at least getting them dialing out to an analogue POTS line.
