Ashley
“And we have our winneerrrrrrrs!!!!” the MC shouts, his voice echoing throughout the viewing room. But I completely ignore him while focusing on my winnings for the event.
Overall, I got a decent amount of points for this event.
Three thousand five hundred points total.
Two thousand five hundred for being on the team that got first place, and another one thousand for killing two enemies.
Unfortunately it turned out to be a lot more difficult to actually kill these Class C enemies than back in Class D. Which means this event in general wasn’t very beneficial for me in terms of leveling up. Even if those two that I killed were in the level five hundreds range and did at least give me over a dozen levels.
Their skills weren’t much to write home about either. At least, not compared to the ones I currently have.
They’re not bad skills, but I already have skills that do what they do better.
Anyway, after looking over my rewards, I finally focus on the MC and the roaring audience. Albeit with most of my attention focused on the countdown in the corner of my vision. The one specifying how long I have to wait in the viewing room after finishing with the event.
Something that didn’t used to be a thing before Class C.
I really don’t like these new changes appearing with every Class upgrade. They’re making the events more and more about entertaining the audience while making things harder on the hunters.
Fewer and fewer events with revival allowed outside of the use of revival tickets.
More restrictions on staying after the event to entertain the audience and MC.
More restrictions on which events the hunter can compete in.
Then again, at the end of the day, the System Events are mostly meant as a source of entertainment and competition. So I guess it makes sense.
Anyway, while the MC is blabbering on, I find both Archal and a couple other hunters in the System Event who didn’t die approaching me and asking about sharing contact information. Including some of the hunters on my own team.
And I have no reason to say no, especially since some of these people are prominent people in important places across the universe.
The MC doesn’t interrupt us either, mostly going over replays of the event. Seemingly used to the hunters not focusing on him.
I guess that makes sense. Most of the hunters competing are doing it for points and because they are required to. Not because they want to entertain fans.
So we spend the rest of the event until the countdown reaches zero making connections, with a couple people making trade agreements. And a couple people completely ignoring everyone and just starting straight ahead, clearly waiting for the countdown to hit zero.
It’s a very different atmosphere from the Class D events.
And when the countdown finally does hit zero, I, along with everyone else around me, immediately leave the event. Returning to where we entered the event from.
After that, I head straight to my room to relax while drinking a couple energy restoratives to refill my chaos energy supply. Then I activate my Chaos skill to create another new skill.
Only to frown when I see the result.
{Magic Shine – All magic circles made by the user look slightly shinier.}
Hmm.
Well, that skill is completely useless.
It may just be the most useless skill I’ve ever seen.
I let out a sigh.
That was a waste of chaos energy.
Anyway, time to rest. Then challenge another Official System Event.
With that thought, I head to bed to sleep. And when I wake up again, with my mana and energy fully restored, I go ahead and spin the random wheel for the Official System Event category.
And the category I get this time is… unexpected.
Competitive Lifestyle Events.
That’s… a thing, I guess.
“Competitive Lifestyle Events are fun,” Chaos says, sounding genuinely interested in them. “I occasionally take the time to watch Class S Competitive Lifestyle Events myself. These events also tend to be some of the most popular, for both the hunters and the viewers.”
That’s not actually all that surprising. That he takes the time to watch some events, that is.
Not the Competitive Lifestyle Events being fun thing, or them being popular.
After a moment, I just shrug and open some livestreams to look at a couple Competitive Lifestyle Events. Just to see what they’re like.
And what I find is rather surprising.
They really are just competitive lifestyle events. With killing allowed.
The hunters compete in some sort of lifestyle activity and are allowed to attack and steal results from others.
There are events for the hunters to compete on who can chop the most wood, who can gather the most meat from hunting beast monsters, and even events where they compete to see who can sleep the longest. All with people being allowed to kill each other in the events to either disqualify them from winning or steal their current progress.
Like stealing the wood they’ve got to increase their own score in the wood chopping event, or stealing the meat they’ve hunted.
Overall, I think it actually does seem more interesting to watch than a straight up battle or sport. Since they’re actually competing in something other than a sport or a straight up killing battle.
And the Competitive Lifestyle Events include things that give advantages to every type of player.
There are even crafting events meant for crafters like blacksmiths or tailors.
So, with all that in mind, I begin looking through the current events. Trying to find the one most interesting to me. All the way until I eventually settle on one Official System Event in particular.
I focus on its rules.
Four Quarters Fishing
Description: The greatest fishing competition of the four quarters. All competitors will be sent to a grand ocean world known as the Four Quarters Ocean. This particular ocean is a special ocean split into four different elements. There is the Aqua Ocean filled with water, the Molten Ocean full of lava, the Shock Ocean filled with lightning liquid, and the Toxic Ocean filled with poison. All competitors must immediately begin fishing, competing with each other across the world to decide who ends up with the most fish in the end.
Participant Count: 300
Rules:
Rules: The competitors may kill any competitor they wish with no restrictions. Competitors may steal any amount of fish they wish from other competitors with or without having killed the competitor the fish originally belonged to, and the fish will henceforth count as their own fish towards the final score. The fish that can be fished up are separated into common, uncommon, rare, epic, and legendary fish. With their corresponding score points in corresponding order being 1 point, 2 points, 3 points, 5 points, and 25 points. Chests of uncommon, rare, and epic rarity can also be found scattered across the planet giving the player ten, thirty, and fifty Skill Points to use as they please. Each of the four oceans contain one peak Class C monster serving as the rulers of each separate ocean that will give one thousand points to whoever slays them and will drop an epic chest. Lastly, there will be a single Class B leviathan monster that will appear in the last half hour of the twelve hour event that will give three thousand points to whoever slays it, along with a legendary chest containing ten thousand Skill Points.
Victory Condition: The player with the most points at the end of the event’s twelve hour period will be declared the victor.
Rewards: Every user slain in the game grants the slayer 200 Skill Points. First place user receives an additional 5000 Skill Points. Users may keep all Skill Points they earn during the event through chests. Users will also receive one-one hundredth of the total points they earned during the event as Skill Points.
Participants List
This event gives far more Skill Points than the volleyball event.
I’m starting to understand why this category of Official System Event is so popular.
I read over the rules once more before selecting to enter the event.
Time to try my first Lifestyle Competition Event.
