Alright. It’s time.

I float in front of the trial tower with my arms crossed over my chest and a frown on my face.

There are still six more Quantum Beings I need to face. Six more trials.

The trials for the Quantum Ruler, the Quantum Enforcer, the Quantum Vanguard, Quantum Builder, Quantum Creator, and the Quantum Balancer.

With that thought in mind, I proceed to enter the trial tower. And the plan this time around is to target the Quantum Beings most likely to cause trouble and give me a quest to take care of them first. Then I can move onto the ones less likely to cause trouble.

Which means I’ll be going after the Quantum Balancer’s trial first. Since he’s the most likely Quantum Being to cause problems.

He is the one who finished off the Universe’s Will personally after all.

“The Quantum Balancer is the type who doesn’t fight you directly,” Zal says, his voice echoing in my mind while sounding slightly stressed. No doubt busy from the influx of work caused by the Universe’s Will, since he’s not the type to abandon the universe like some of those other Quantum Beings. “He will take control of opponents, manipulate others into attacking his target, and force the very laws of the universe to bend towards his will so long as it maintains balance.”

That sounds annoying.

I can’t help but frown at the thought of fighting a nuisance like that. But at the same time, it should be a lot easier to fight him than the previous Quantum Beings in the trials. Simply because I’m an Ascendant Tier now.

There’s also something I really want to try during the trial.

I glance at my new racial skill.

{Quantum Devour: As the Quantum Reaper and a Devourer, you may devour anything and selectively claim the traits of what you devour as your own.}

If this racial skill works in a trial, then I might be able to steal traits from the Quantum Beings. And that’s before I even fight the real Quantum Beings outside of the trials.

That said, something tells me this probably won’t work. Unfortunately.

But it might. And now matter how small that chance is, I want to at least give it a shot.

With that in mind, I go ahead and enter the trial tower before moving through the graveyard towards the mausoleum for the Quantum Balancer. Then I walk right into the mausoleum to begin the Quantum Balancer’s trial.

Only to find myself appearing in the middle of some sort of throne room, where a bunch of what look like nobles are gathered around in a meeting. Albeit a meeting with a lot of shouting.

“What do you mean the Anchor was located?! Do you realize how much we spent to hide that Anchor?!”

“How could this happen?!”

“What will we do now?! We don’t have the manpower to defend the Anchor!”

All of the nobles are blabbering on about some Anchor thing. Meanwhile the king – I’m assuming he’s a king since he’s seated on the throne – just smiles at them all. And I find my gaze drawn towards the king in particular due to the quantum energy I feel him giving off.

That’s the Quantum Balancer possessing this king, isn’t it?

It has to be. No regular person has this much quantum energy.

Especially not at this quality.

Not to mention that the king looks too happy with that smile of his despite how all of the nobles are freaking out and enraged right now. It’s just way too suspicious.

After this scene, everything around me changes before I find myself flying high above a massive pillar of light. One that I feel corruption flowing off of at a rapid pace.

But the Anchor – which I’m guessing this is – just absorbs the corruption back into itself. Creating a bit of a cycle of release and absorb.

Meanwhile, all of the regular people who get near it end up being partially corrupted.

They seem to gain power from the Anchor and its corruption without being fully corrupted and losing their minds.

My frown grows deeper.

So this paints a pretty clear picture. The kingdom in question created some sort of corruption Anchor and is using it to fight or take advantage of its neighbors. Which led to the Quantum Balancer being called over to deal with the situation.

To rebalance things here.

And the way he’s doing it is rather roundabout, if I had to be honest. He could easily just destroy the Anchor himself.

Regardless of if he’s directly combat focused, he should easily be strong enough to do it. But instead he’s going this roundabout way of messing with the people.

I guess that goes to show just what type of person the Quantum Balancer is.

Then again, I’m not that surprised. Not after everything I’ve heard about him.

He’s the one who ruined Lucas and got punished by the Quantum Ruler for it. And he’s the one who destroyed the Universe’s Will in the end.

So at this point, I’d be more surprised if he didn’t go a roundabout way to do his job. Just for his own entertainment.

Anyway, the scene continues, showing me numerous armies that are marching towards the Anchor. Clearly wishing to destroy it. Meanwhile the soldiers of this kingdom are increasing the number of pseudo corrupted on their side to be able to fight back.

But at some point, things go awry for the kingdom. Specifically when some of the corrupted end up growing too corrupted and lose their minds.

They start to attack their own, and the ranks of their kingdom’s military falls apart rather quickly.

Eventually, when the attacking forces arrive at the Anchor, they find the kingdom already fighting itself thanks to the corrupted. Leading to a large mess where the other nations have to fight both the corrupted and the Anchor.

All the way until the Anchor finally falls.

Then I’m brought to the second part of the trial without even so much as a word from the Quantum Balancer.

Yeah, this is going to be an unpleasant trial. I can tell that already.
