The Land of Twilight
The Judge of the Order quietly listens to the reports flowing in from across the battlefield while seated at the forward base on the planet ruled by the Empress of Twilight.
“The thirty-first battalion has been fully corrupted and turned against us.”
“The fifth battalion has been corrupted as well.”
“Has there been any news about a way to block the corruption of twilight?! Any news at all?!”
“Damnit, the Magic Towers have already lost too many mages in this conflict!”
“The Hive has lost one royal guard to the corruption.”
And ever since the Empress of Twilight advanced to Class A, the negative reports have not stopped flooding in. Which is the exact reason the Judge came out here with the army so early. To slow down the empress’ advancement as much as possible.
Yet, by the time they arrived, she was already advancing to Class A.
The Judge wouldn’t be surprised if she reaches Class S within a few months at this rate.
It’s what happens when a Unique Monster is at war with the entire universe and is slaughtering and corrupting people en mass. With everything she corrupts giving her EXP for everything they kill as well.
“No way to protect against the corruption has been found,” the Judge, who is acting as the supreme commander of the assault against the Empress of Twilight, eventually speaks. “The only solutions we have found are how to destroy the corruption before it reaches you. But very few mages exist with the affinities necessary to do so.”
While some of the forces in the unified army immediately begin to ask what the exact affinities are that are capable of destroying the corruption, others, like the Hive, simply wait for him to continue.
And he does continue with a blank face as he states, “There are five affinities that can destroy or eliminate the corruption before it reaches someone. Those are destruction magic, null magic, void magic, chaos magic, and light magic. Amongst those, only one of them is capable of reversing corruption, but none can stop its effects once someone is corrupted. And none can block corruption.”
Silence fills the meeting hall for a few moments.
“The affinity capable of reversing corruption is light magic, but only if null magic is used alongside it to nullify the effects of the corruption while it’s being purified,” the Judge finishes, making everyone begin whispering amongst themselves about how to organize their forces.
But instead of gathering all of the null magic users in their forces, most of them begin to discuss gathering all of the chaos and light mages they can find.
Because there are extremely few destruction, null, and void mages in the universe.
And those that exist are amongst the most powerful and are often Successors.
Even the Magic Towers only has a few of each, and they’re all Successors that the Tower Master can’t call for to assist as he pleases. Much less the branch master here on the battlefield.
Destruction magic is known as the most powerful magic in terms of pure offensive ability, with void magic as a close second.
And null magic is the makings of the anti-mages. Those capable of nullifying magic around them.
Fortunately, while those with inherent chaos energy are almost nonexistent, chaos mages with chaos mana conversion are relatively common. Even if the majority of them go to the Tower of Chaos instead of the Magic Towers.
The Judge quietly watches everyone at work for a while, having already ordered his own subordinates to prepare the necessary mages. He’s also called for reinforcements to enhance their forces and is prepared to step into battle personally to deal with the matter.
The main reason the Judge himself, a Class S hunter, is here personally is to fight directly against the Empress of Twilight. But if they can’t even make it to the empress, then they have a problem.
And even the Judge isn’t immune to the corruption.
Because the corruption is made up of True Damage that ignores all defenses other than True Resistances.
Of course, being the Judge of the Order, he has at least three items that grant True Resistances. But even those won’t last forever. And he doesn’t know how long it’ll take to find the Empress of Twilight on the planet.
For all he knows, he could end up corrupted before she’s found.
And this is with her just being Class A.
There’s a reason the Class S Unique Monsters tend to go unchallenged, rising to make their own permanent nations.
The only ones who can stand up against Class S Unique Monsters are often either entire armies of Class S hunters, or other Class S Unique Monsters.
And with how disjointed the alliance is against Unique Monsters, it is extremely unlikely for them to form an army that big. No matter how large the threat is.
The Judge quietly sighs as the others continue their discussions. Then a thought comes to mind and he narrows his eyes.
Because he realized there is exactly a Unique Being with both chaos and destruction magic.
If our assault fails… maybe, just maybe…
