Within the true Tower of Chaos
Chaos lets out a sigh of relief after seeing what Successor Skills she managed to unlock through the blood. Because one of them is exactly what she needed to face a Unique Monster of the void.
The void is filled with monsters whose very existence attacks the mind, so the most common powers of the void are mental attacks, followed by devouring attacks. Ones that devour others and use them as sustenance to power their own attacks.
Chaos’ main worry upon seeing Ashley entering a Unique Domain with a void Unique Monster was the Unique Monster having a mind targeting True Damage skill. And that worry came true when Ashley met the creature.
Just looking at the Unique Monster would use up charges of Chaotic Source constantly. Meaning that, if she ever ran out of energy while fighting it or even looking at it, her mind would crumble.
It’s a far more dangerous Unique Monster than any she’s faced before.
Because mental attacks are a great weakness for a lot of people across the universe. And True Damage mental attacks are even worse.
Especially a passive one.
But Chaos knew at a glance that it’s not just a passive. If the black fog were to touch her, it would have shattered her mind in seconds. Using up hundreds of charges in an instant of contact.
Now, though? After seeing Ashley receive Steadfast Heart from Lux?
Chaos feels beyond relief. In fact, if she can make it out of the Unique Domain, she will be far stronger than when she entered.
Because she will be assimilating the Unique Monster’s Skill Tree, gaining a True Damage mental attack skill along with the True Damage mental attack defense skill she just received.
It will cover up a massive weakness and give her a powerful attack.
But that’s only if she can survive. So Chaos has no intention of ever forgiving Nyx for what she’s done.
Chaos makes sure to keep an eye on Ashley, who is currently searching the Unique Domain for anything that can be used against the Void God, as he begins making plans for revenge.
He never made any promises, and all he said was that there would be war if Ashley doesn’t make it out alive.
Not once did Chaos ever make a promise that he wouldn’t retaliate. And the other Primordials likely know this well.
They just made the deal to stop a war from happening between the two most dangerous Primordials in the universe.
The two Primordials capable of causing the most damage to everything.
All Chaos needs to do to cause immense destruction to the universal order is spread his chaos energy across a portion of the universe, turning everyone into monsters. Meanwhile all Nyx needs to do is show her true body within the universe.
A tenth of the universe would lose their minds immediately just from her presence alone.
So a war between the two would break the universe if they genuinely fought, forcing the other Primordials to work hard to keep the universe safe.
But an all-out war isn’t the only way to punish Nyx for her actions. Not that Chaos ever sees her regretting them no matter what he does.
Just letting her get away with it isn’t going to fly with Chaos, though. Regardless of how she takes it.
With these thoughts in mind, Chaos turns his attention to the Hive.
One of the few nations in the universe with a Successor of Void amongst their numbers.
And without hesitation, Chaos begins making his own little crystal.
Let’s see how she likes it when her Successor is put into a Unique Domain.
Ashley
I can’t help but dry-heave after assimilating a specific, rather disgusting, Skill Tree. One that I immediately delete as fast as I possibly can.
{You have slain a being while Assimilate is active. You have now unlocked the Skill Tree: Voidling}
{You have unlocked a new Skill Tree, therefore the root skill of the Skill Tree, Symbiotic Parasites, is now unlocked for your usage.}
It doesn’t take long to realize after dry-heaving, though, that I didn’t actually dry-heave.
There was something in it that I vomited out.
Quite a few somethings, at that.
Dozens of tiny little worm-like insects that all die soon after I delete the skill. Insects that identify through the System as parasites.
Those were… inside of me?
I can’t help but shiver at the thought. Especially because I know I could very easily get another skill just like that as I continue assimilating Skill Trees from these voidlings.
This place is terrifying in more ways than one…
It’s honestly making me start hesitating to use my Assimilate skill on them. Just because of these damned root skills being mutation skills.
At least I won’t have to worry about the root skill of the Unique Monster being one. It’ll be a True Damage skill.
Although I will still have to worry about the skills after it. Because they could easily be mutation skills.
If push comes to shove, I could always just never unlock any new skills from the Unique Skill Tree and leave it as just the root skill. Or I could unlock a skill and delete it.
The Guide lets me do that now. Which is a nice feature.
A very nice feature.
It doesn’t refund me my Skill Points, though. So if I end up unlocking a skill in the Unique Skill Tree and then deciding against it, it will be a massive waste of Skill Points.
Of course, this isn’t anywhere near as big of a problem as the root skills. Since I can at least read the descriptions of the skills I am looking to unlock before deciding on unlocking them.
Unlike the root skills, whose descriptions I can’t see until I get the Skill Tree.
And said root skill along with it.
I let out a sigh after turning away from the parasites and the massive bug who gave me the Skill Tree in the first place. All while deciding to avoid using Assimilate on anything that doesn’t look incredibly powerful from now on.
At least, in this Unique Domain.
I really don’t want to go through more experiences like that.
So, for the first time in as long as I can remember, I go around killing monsters without assimilating their Skill Trees. Which ends up using less energy in the process.
All the way until I find something rather… unexpected, within the Unique Domain.
It’s also likely what I’ve been searching for.
I can tell because of the messages that begin to fill my gaze from looking at it. Albeit at a very slow pace.
One so slow that I wasn’t even sure if it would happen again when I first saw the message. Because another didn’t appear for an entire two minutes after it.
{You have used up one charge of Chaotic Source! The True Damage has now been redirected! 27/30 charges remaining.}
{You have used up one charge of Chaotic Source! The True Damage has now been redirected! 26/30 charges remaining.}
This new passive skill from Lux is coming in very handy.
Anyway, the unexpected find is in the form of a massive temple-like structure floating upside-down in the Unique Domain. With some of that black fog from the Void God coating the area around it.
Considering that the Void God’s True Damage fog is here coating the temple, I most likely just found the thing I’m looking for.
Whatever is inside must be usable against the Void God itself.
I can’t imagine how I would’ve gotten through this without this mental True Damage resistance skill though…
Actually, would I even have been able to?
Maybe if I inched my way through while coating myself in Eternal Snow?
True Damage skills can counter some effect of other True Damage skills. Just like when two regular attack skills collide in the air.
It would probably require quite a bit of energy to get through, though. And that’s assuming covering myself in Eternal Snow would even work.
After all, this is a mental attack that hurts just from looking at it.
And I’d be able to see through my own Eternal Snow, so I would still be able to see the fog.
I activate my Gaze of Destruction passively to find the frequency of the Chaotic Source charges being used up to reduce all the way down to one charge used every ten minutes.
That should be good enough.
I take a deep breath before moving up to the black fog.
Time to enter the temple.
