Numerous things happen all at once when I enter the temple.
For one, everything becomes so dark I can barely see. Likely due to the black fog.
And this is with me having numerous skills that enhance my sight both inside and outside of darkness.
It’s disturbing in more ways than one. Because I’m not used to being blinded like this.
Maybe my skills are spoiling me, but it’s still uncomfortable.
Other than the darkness, I also feel a strange eerie sensation. Just a feeling that something’s wrong here.
Which, from what I remember of Chaos’ occasional lectures, is a common thing when dealing with void creatures.
The void is the backend of the universe, in a way. It’s a place where things and creatures that don’t belong in the regular universe end up. Whether they’re tossed there, or born there, it doesn’t matter. The things in the void are just wrong.
Some of the things in the void are so wrong it makes people go insane just looking at them.
Actually, a better word for the void than the backend of the universe would be the quarantine zone of the universe. Everything in the void is treated like a quarantine subject.
And the Void Primordial, Nyx, is the most dangerous quarantine subject. One that can move freely and do what she wants.
But no one can really stop her. Except Chaos.
The other Primordials can stop her if more than one works together, but Chaos is the only one who can really stop her all by himself.
Lux might be able to hold her own against Nyx though. Simply because she has a lot of mental resistances, while Nyx mostly uses mental attacks.
Nyx’ very existence is a mental attack, so imagining how powerful her actual attacks are is terrifying, to say the least.
But the last thing that happens after entering the temple sends chills down my spine. Specifically the fact that I can tell that the fog is getting thicker already after entering.
Every step I take deeper into the temple, the black fog gets thicker and thicker. And after walking for ten minutes, I eventually find myself barely jumping back to avoid a deep purple beam that strikes at the ground where I was just standing.
I look around to find the source of the beam, but I can’t find them. Then another beam fires at me, and I barely manage to avoid it just like the first one.
Then another one fires.
And another.
I quickly realize that the direction the beam is coming from isn’t actually where the source of the beam is. At which point I send out a blizzard of Eternal Snow around me, pushing back the black fog a few inches while dispersing some of the rest of it.
My eyes narrow when I realize that even my Eternal Snow can’t fully block or disperse the black fog. All it can do is mix into it, thinning out the black fog in the process.
After the initial push around my body, that is.
Still. That’s all I need for my current goal, since I can sense where the creature is thanks to the Eternal Snow in the corridor. Which is what I find this area to be.
I push more Eternal Snow towards the creature while dodging another beam. And the moment the Eternal Snow reaches the monster, the thing freezes into a statue, ending the beam attacks.

This one monster gave me that many levels…?
That’s… actually a little frightening.
If it was that high level, what would’ve happened if I had been hit by one of those beams?
Now I get why I shivered upon entering this place.
My instinct suddenly flares, making me jump back before another beam strikes into the ground next to me. I grit my teeth at the arrival of another one of these monsters before I move to take a look at the corpse of the first one. Which doesn’t seem to have many mutations.
I kind of want this beam attack, and if my guess is correct, this beam attack might be their root skill. So no mutations.
Of course, this is mostly just wishful thinking since I really want this skill. It looks like it’s probably a mental attack skill, after all. Judging by the feel it gives off along with my own instincts.
And a good mental attack skill is always welcome.
So this time I activate Assimilate before spreading my Eternal Snow around and finding and freezing the monster.
{You have slain a being while Assimilate is active. You have now unlocked the Skill Tree: Voidling}
{You have unlocked a new Skill Tree, therefore the root skill of the Skill Tree, Void Beam, is now unlocked for your usage.}

Yep. Thought so.
There’s my new skill.
I continue making my way down the corridor of the temple while occasionally dealing with these monsters. All the way until I reach a chamber of some sort.
The chamber seems big, but I can only tell that thanks to my Eternal Snow spreading through the chamber. And there doesn’t seem to be much in the-
My thoughts suddenly grind to a halt when a searing pain flashes through my mind. One so painful that I drop to my knees and let out a silent scream.
But it doesn’t last long before I find myself panting in exhaustion.
Holy fucking shit, what was that?!
And why did it do so much damage despite my resistance?!
Wait a second…
I blink as I realize there’s no pain at all anymore. And when I focus on my head and mental state, I find it to be completely undamaged.
Was that just… a pain attack?
A mental attack that only causes pain and no real-
My thoughts grind to a halt again when I feel something slamming into my side. Sending me flying to crash into a wall. Then I feel another massive wave of pain flooding me.
Shiiiiiitt!
Whatever this monster is, it’s using the pain as a distraction.
I push through the pain as hard as I can to climb to my feet before sending as much Eternal Snow as I can out into my surroundings. Trying hard to fill up the entire chamber.
But even after several seconds, I can’t find the end of the chamber. It’s just too massive.
Nor can I find the monster.
Until another flood of pain comes and I sense it rushing through the Eternal Snow to tackle me. Giving me the chance to freeze the thing solid with my Eternal Snow.
The monster ends up crashing into the ground, making an ice shattering sound as it breaks into pieces.

Another monster giving me a lot of levels.
I can’t identify these things if I can’t see them, so I don’t actually know how high these things are in level. Which makes things even more dangerous since I don’t know how strong they are.
And more importantly, this chamber is so large that-
Another wave of pain floods my mind, proving the point I was just about to think.
I grit my teeth after the pain fades.
Yeah.
There’s no way a chamber this large would only have one monster in it.
