Alexia

The two Quantum Beings carefully work to destroy the egg. With each of them targeting locations that aren’t ‘cracked’ with glitches. Because, if something hits the glitches, it will aggravate the corruption further. Making it spread immediately, and possibly destroying the protections against its spread built into the egg in the process.

Which will cause a massive explosion of corruption as the egg pretty much self-destructs.

I can already tell that something is going to aggravate the glitches and the corruption. Just from what I already know about the Corrupted One.

With that in mind, I stand back and watch as the two Quantum Beings gradually destroy the egg bit by bit. And, to my surprise, they actually get about half of the egg destroyed without anything going wrong.

At this point, the two Quantum Beings are beginning to relax a little bit. Seemingly satisfied with how things are going so far.

But then it happens.

A loud screech suddenly fills the glitchy void outside of the universe, followed by the appearance of a large bug. One absolutely covered in corruption.

“Kill that thing!” the Quantum Ruler roars mid-swing at the egg. Except that his brother is also in the middle of an attack on the egg, leaving neither of them able to focus on the bug that is currently rushing at a corrupted part of the egg.

Then another surprise happens as the Quantum Vanguard suddenly appears and slices through the bug.

Both the Ruler and his brother look on in shock and relief at the sight before continuing to destroy the egg. Not even bothering to ask why the Vanguard is here.

It doesn’t take long for more of the corrupted bugs to begin arriving. First starting with a few every couple minutes, and eventually progressing into dozens every ten seconds.

The Quantum Vanguard continues to slaughter the creatures without letting a single one near the egg. Making it look like they’ll succeed in destroying the egg completely.

Until a massive bug much larger than the previous ones appears in the blink of an eye and tackles the Quantum Vanguard.

I watch with my eyes wide in surprise as the Vanguard is send flying far away from the egg with the bug’s horn glitching through his gut. All the way until he’s so far away I can’t see him anymore.

The Ruler and his brother both are too busy to focus on the bugs thanks to their latest attacks against the egg, which is actually beginning to fight back using quantum energy to shield itself and attack them. Almost like an instinct for self-preservation rather than any sentient thought. So the bugs begin to rush in, with more and more of them appearing.

I can’t help but frown as I see entire swarms of the bugs arriving at a much faster speed than before the Vanguard was sent flying. Because, while the Ruler and his brother are managing to throw in some attacks at the swarm, the bugs are getting closer and closer to the egg despite their attempts.

Then it all comes crashing down when another big bug like the one that attacked the Vanguard arrives and flies straight at a corrupted portion of the egg.

The Ruler and his brother try to stop it, but when the Ruler’s brother realizes they won’t make it, he abandons everything and rushes at his brother. And without any hesitation whatsoever, he grabs his brother and throws him as far away as possible. Using some sort of power in the process to make it so his brother can’t resist him.

I then watch as the bug slams into the corrupted portion of the egg, making tremors vibrate across the entire egg. But it doesn’t stop there as the tremors turn into tiny fractures running between the different corrupted cracks. Then the fractures begin to spread corruption throughout the rest of the egg.

All the way until the egg completely shatters and everything in it is released. Blasting corruption everywhere I can see. Completely blinding me in the process.

Now, where exactly these bugs came from and why they didn’t appear before but chose now, I have no idea. Nor do I know why they didn’t just go up to the egg and shatter it before the Ruler and his brother showed up.

But I do have a theory just from watching all of this.

The egg is the source of the corruption, so while the corruption will spread far faster after the egg’s corruption thanks to the amount released at once, it will also mean the source will be destroyed. Making it easier to end permanently.

Which means the corruption needed a new source.

Something just as powerful or almost as powerful as the egg.

And something that can move on its own instead of being forced to stay in place all of the time.

So the corruption targeted the Ruler and his brother. I don’t know if it went after just one of them, both of them, or even which one it went after if it did target just one, but it likely targeted them regardless.

All to do this.

It’s the only thing I can think of that makes sense.

Once the bright lights of the corruption fade, everything in this corrupted void looks completely different. The corruption is far greater in quantity, and is practically everywhere. No matter where I look, reality is glitching and letting out a disgusting pale purple glow that has a feeling that sends a shiver down my spine just from looking at it.

And right where the egg once stood – or floated – a being I recognize is now located. A being whose entire being is filled with corruption and can’t stay in a single form. Constantly changing appearance with numerous gaps in said appearances that are filled with corruption and have no set form.

The being is both terrifying and uncomfortable to look at.

The being is the Corrupted One.
