All Around the Battlefield

One Quantum Being after another turns their shocked gazes towards Alexia Knight, the Quantum Reaper, after she absorbs every last corrupted creature beneath Corruptor level in the battlefield. She even absorbs the energy of the corrupted creatures who weren’t in the universe yet but were rushing towards the breach.

But her ability to do this isn’t the only thing attracting the gazes of the Quantum Beings with roles, unlike the Quantum Beings without roles who are simply shocked by her power.

The Quantum Beings with roles all look at her because they sensed something within the skill she just used. Something that is not completely inherent to a Quantum Reaper.

A skill that mixes two different powers. The power of the Quantum Reaper, and the power of a Devourer.

Only a hybrid of the two could ever do something like this.

The Quantum Ruler and Vanguard both turn their gazes to a single corner of the battlefield, where they sense another Devourer lurking. One they recognize as Alexia’s mother.

Both of them knew she was here and helping fight while hiding her presence from her daughter. No doubt to keep her from worrying.

And yet, now that they’ve seen this power themselves, they can’t help but wonder what the hybrid of the Quantum Architect’s power and a Devourer can do if Alexia can do this.

That brief curiosity doesn’t last long before they turn their full attention towards finishing off the Corruptors while Alexia focuses on the Corrupted One. Which doesn’t take long. And for some reason, the Corrupted One doesn’t attack during this time.

It just occasionally tries to push forward, only to glitch out and freeze for a few seconds. Over and over again.

Almost like something is holding it back.

The Quantum Ruler feels hope once again at the sight. Because he knows exactly who is holding the Corrupted One back right now.

But he also knows the hope is pointless, as the Corrupted One and his brother are too intertwined now. To the point that there is no way to separate them anymore.

The Ruler feels his fist trembling slightly at his side before he and the rest of the Quantum Beings finally finish off the Corruptors around them. Then every last Quantum Being in the area turns their full attention onto the Corrupted One in front of them.

And, at the same time, the Quantum Reaper, who has had her eyes closed for a while as she absorbed the energy she just collected, finally opens her eyes to lock her gaze onto the Corrupted One as well.

However, before any fighting can begin, the Corrupted One suddenly turns to look at the Ruler. And, without giving anyone the chance to react, a voice very familiar to the Ruler echoes in his head and the heads of all the Quantum Beings around them.

“Thank you, and goodbye. I leave the rest to you.”

After that, none of them ever hear the voice of the former Quantum Reaper, the Ruler’s brother, ever again as cracks in reality all around the Corrupted One’s head shatter signifying something breaking.

Then the Corrupted One suddenly disappears before reappearing in front of the Quantum Reaper, slamming its corrupted fist into her gut and sending her flying.

Alexia

I feel immense pain from my gut the moment the Corrupted One appears in front of me and attacks, launching me so far away in an instant that I almost lose sight of the battlefield. Then the Corrupted One reappears again with its leg falling down in an axe kick to slam into my shoulder, crushing some of my bones in the process and changing the direction of my launch.

The wounds rapidly draw on my overflowing energy supply to heal in seconds, but the Corrupted One just continues appearing and hitting me over and over again. Launching us all around the universe, destroying planets in the process.

It isn’t until I finally get the slightest bit of a handle on his attacks that I manage to avoid one. Only to be struck with his other leg after dodging one and sent flying anyways.

When the others appear, catching up with us, they find me struggling to dodge any attacks I can. So they immediately begin to help, launching their own attacks at the Corrupted One. Which manages to slow him down considerably as he begins to use corruption to block and counterattack against those striking him.

Although, for some reason, he seems to be targeting me.

Is it because I’m the current Quantum Reaper, and he still has some Quantum Reaper energy in him?

Either way, I finally get a moment to metaphorically – since we’re in space – breathe before beginning to launch my own attacks on the Corrupted One. Using my latest skills while I’m at it.

I use Entanglement Severance to try to stop the Corrupted One from healing or affecting its own body, and I use Causality Severance on its connection with corrupted energy. All in an attempt to limit what it can do.

Only for the Corrupted One to shrug off probably about seventy-five percent of the effects of Entanglement Severance and eighty percent for Causality Severance.

Any amount of blocking works, though, so it’s fine. I’m a little surprised even this amount works, considering how much stronger it is than me.

Then again, I did just wipe out trillions or even quadrillions of corrupted creatures. So The Reaper activated and boosted my strength accordingly.

That might be why.

Actually, that probably is why.

Attacks fly all over the place from the dozens of Quantum Beings and the Corrupted One, completely obliterating planets and other astral objects one after another. Even making cracks in reality itself.

But none of us pay any attention to that. Those are all things that can be fixed later.

The Corrupted One is not something that can just be put off until later to deal with.

It must be dealt with now.
