NathanYear 2853 | Month 6 | Day 22
A loud roar echoes throughout the ocean as the massive shark sea monster is burnt alive by my Tier X spell. With the black, red, and purple flames tearing both it and even the very water its in apart, whether through burning, necrosis, or spatial shredding.
Of course, the creature is still a sea monster. So my single Tier X spell isn’t enough to kill it.
It is, however, more than enough to drastically injure it.
I draw both of my swords before jumping right off of the boat and clearing the distance between the ship and the massive shark through space magic floating me through the air. Straight into my own spell without even waiting for it to end.
The pain hurts a bit, but I ignore it as I move straight to where I sense life within this sea of flames. And when I arrive at the target, I don’t waste any time in swinging my swords and tearing the shark to shreds.
I hear the shark sea monster roaring even louder than before, only for it to eventually fall silent after I manage to dig through its enormous body to find its head.
It doesn’t take long after that for the sea monster to fall still. Once I get out of its body, I even see the corpse in question rotating and rising to the surface like a normal fish. Which is weird to see, but whatever.
I sheathe both of my swords before floating back over to the ship I jumped off of earlier.
“It’s dealt with,” I tell the man looking fervently at me from the railing.
One of the requests I was given was to kill a sea monster that was too close to a specific nation. And now that request is dealt with. Without even having to go anywhere, at that. Since the Magic Tower’s delegates – who are giving me a ride – are on the way to the Grand Tower Auction to participate in the auction and passing by the monster anyway.
“Thank you! Your aid will not go unappreciated!” the man fervently says while looking like he wants to grab and shake my hand, but is too nervous to do that. “The nation of Arvol will send the Eternal Continents all of the mana stones we’ve mined over the past six months as agreed!”
These mana stones should be rather useful for Claire and everyone else.
They’re a rather unusual result of reality mana pouring out through a natural crack into the ground and ‘polluting’ the ores there. Which pretty much just means they filled them with mana that can be extracted and used for magi-tech items.
One of the reasons the Abandoned Continents were abandoned before in the first place was due to the lack of any mana stones across the entire continents. So it’s good to get them from elsewhere. Even if the society on the Abandoned, now Eternal, Continents doesn’t run on mana stones.
Simply not having them puts us behind the rest of the world, and that’s reason enough to get them.
I give him a nod of my head before walking over to the bridge of the large battleship, where I find the delegate of the Magic Towers currently meditating. Clearly not having had much of any interest in the battle outside.
She is a Class S magician, after all. One who has been Class S for far longer than me.
Although, it could also just be that she has confidence in me and wasn’t worried thanks to that.
I am rather pleased with the delegates from the major powers. Simply because they are a lot easier and less annoying to deal with than the rest of the nations who sent delegates.
They didn’t have any requests, after all.
Not a single one.
All they came to do was to congratulate me and formally invite me personally to the three major events.
Of course, a large part of their treatment is no doubt that they don’t actually need my help for anything major right now. And they already have plenty of reputation, so they’re probably happy with just showing that they are on good enough terms with me to drop by and say congratulations with gifts like this.
The Magic Tower is even more lavish as they straight up invited me to ride with them back to the auction.
No doubt because I’m closer to them than the other nations on account of me being the Tower Master of one of the Magic Towers myself. Pretty much making me part of them in a way.
Anyway, I ignore everyone in the bridge as I sit in a corner opposite to the Magic Tower Class S magician’s corner and begin going over the code in my Tier X spell. All while pulling up the recording I just took of the spell in action.
Having a target for testing works quite well for making improvements to the spell.
It’s not easy to find targets this big.
This might be the only real upside to these sea monsters.
Free targets.
I soon find myself absorbed in spellcrafting while ignoring everyone else in the bridge entirely. Including the people I see periodically glancing over at me.
All the way until we eventually arrive at Melci. The continent that is the home of the Melcians, one of the three nations of the Alliance, along with the place where the Grand Tower Auction is going to be held.
Albeit inside of a Magic Tower in the nation.
From my understanding, the auction is held before the tournament so that the competitors can top up on the things they need right before competing. Then there’s a pause in the auction for the tournament to take place, followed by more auction after the tournament. Where they sell the most important items.
Things that wouldn’t be usable in the short time between the auction’s first part and the tournament anyway, but are still incredibly valuable and expensive.
I stare at the port and the vast river next to it that the ship is heading towards for a few moments before frowning slightly.
Here’s hoping this auction has something useful for me to buy.
Otherwise I’ll be stuck going just to watch other people buy stuff.
I look out of the bridge for a few more seconds before returning my focus to my spell again.
