NathanYear 2853 | Month 6 | Day 22

As it turns out, his Magic Tower is indeed very different. For one, there is a lot of electricity running through the entire thing. With some of it just plain running along the walls and ceiling, making for a rather interesting spectacle.

Especially since the electricity isn’t all of one color. It’s of many different colors.

Black electricity, white, gold, blue, and even some red electricity.

On top of the electricity, the entire Magic Tower is made out of metal. And its exterior has electricity running through it too.

To say the least, it’s definitely a Magic Tower meant for a wind magician specializing in lightning.

Anyway, the Mage of Storms shows me around his Magic Tower before bringing me to the balcony of his reception chamber to look out over the entire city. At which point he begins to point out the different locations in the city to me.

I’m not quite sure this counts as giving me a tour, but it’s fine.

The city is quite large. Larger than the city around the Eternal Tower, at least. And there are a lot of towers built outside of the city that the lightning striking the ground just move across to reach.

I still can’t figure out at a glance why the lightning isn’t striking the city or even the towers, but the towers are clearly being used to gather electricity to power the city. Maybe even mana as well.

The only guess I have for why the towers aren’t being struck by lightning is that the Mage of Storms made some sort of magitech item using lightning specialized wind mana to keep that from happening.

I haven’t spent much time learning about wind mana, much less lightning, since I already have enough affinities to learn about as is. So I’m not sure if my guess is accurate or not.

For all I know, it could be an additional effect brought about by the altered reality around here.

After the Mage of Storms finishes talking about his city, he begins to talk about the towers around it as well, answering my unasked questions.

“Every building in the city is powered by electricity coming directly from the towers around the city,” Drake says with the corners of his lips inching ever so slightly upwards in the faintest hint of a smug grin. The man clearly proud of the towers. “The towers are all magitech items I created that draw in electricity and wind mana in the area while also guiding the lightning to land in certain locations. The towers enhance their own sturdiness through some of the mana drained from their surroundings while also sending the mana to power magitech items across the city.”

Huh. Okay, these towers might actually be something worthy of being proud of.

“The towers also serve as defensive measures for the city,” Drake continues, further surprising me with the sheer practicality of these towers. “They can fire bolts of electricity at any enemies approaching the city, and they’re capable of forming a barrier of electricity that covers the entire city.”

Okay, yeah, these towers are impressive. And the fact that he can make towers with so many uses is impressive as well.

The more different uses a magitech item has, the more difficult it is to design.

I know that from my experience trying to make space affinity magitech items. Since those are all rather complicated to design.

On top of that, the fact that he made these massive towers to take advantage of the altered reality he himself created across this nation is even more impressive. Especially since the constant thunderstorms across the nation make for a good natural defense as well.

Of course, this also limits their nation a little bit. What with most of the nation’s magicians being wind affinity magicians due to the vast amount of wind mana filling the continent altering the chances of what affinity magicians born here will have. Which makes their fighting unbalanced and easier to counter.

After all, there are natural counters between affinities. Even if they aren’t anywhere near absolute.

And if someone can make magitech items like these, someone else can make magitech items that counter them.

But that still requires a lot of research, insider knowledge, and time to make a legitimate strategy to deal with the towers and thunderstorms.

I can’t help but feel my respect for the Mage of Storms rising.

“The towers took several years to design, and they were the main reason for my experiments that led to the alteration of the reality over the continent,” Drake states with his arms crossed as he stares at the towers in the distance. “I was experimenting with different methods to power my Magic Tower due to a need for greater power generation, and I succeeded in a way I wasn’t expecting.”

Wait, so he purposefully altered the reality around the Melcians? Do they know this?

Public knowledge states that it just happened as a byproduct. Not that he did it on purpose.

And his carelessness in telling me all of this, along with some of the designs of the magitech towers…

I feel the respect that was growing for him beginning to decline once more the more he speaks.

And he just keeps talking. He even goes into detail about the design of the towers.

Isn’t he worried I’ll eventually use this against him one day? Or maybe that I’ll copy his design for my own nation?

Because I can easily make use of these towers for my own nation. The island the Eternal Tower is on is covered in death mana still, and if I can make towers to draw in the death mana filling reality, I can get a free mana battery of my own.

Is he helping me on purpose, or is he just careless?

Either way, I continue listening to his little impromptu lecture for a while before he eventually has to go and someone else escorts me to my room. One with a lab.

Well, since there’s a lab here already, I might as well make use of it.

Time to start designing my own towers.
