NathanYear 2853 | Month 6 | Day 24
A couple days pass before the day of the auction finally arrives. At which point I find myself being guided to a very fancy and luxurious box over the main hall of the auction. One of several private boxes, each no doubt holding very important people.
I already saw three of the people in the booths, but I’m not quite sure who the other booth holders are.
The two Class SS magicians and the pseudo Class SS magician each have their own booths, and I’m sure Crimson will likely hold one of the booths himself if he makes an appearance here. But who are the other booths for?
I’m not sure. There are still at least four other booths.
Of course, for all I know, those booths could be empty. But still.
I sit down on a chair closer to the edge of the booth, right next to the light field meant to block people’s vision of the inside of the booth. Then I look out at the people in the lower booths and in the regular seating.
The hall itself is set up with three layers, each of which are arrayed in a circular room around a circular platform at the center of the room. Where the items being auctioned off will appear one by one with the host of the auction, who will be introducing the items.
All of the seating on the ground level is arranged with two comfortable looking chairs and a small table in-between them in a repeated pattern all across the floor. Albeit with some additional seats further back that have less comfortable chairs, but in greater number around their table for larger parties.
Then the booths above the ground level are filled with a number of seats seemingly prepared for the group that is using each booth in question. So they all have different numbers of seats, even if the comfort level of the furniture in those booths is the same.
The Grand Tower Auction is an extremely fancy event, with a massive minimum price for even the lowest items being auctioned. A price so high that the average person couldn’t afford the cheapest item here even if they worked for most of their life and saved up all of the money they earned during that time to buy it.
Thanks to that, the vast majority of people are barred from entry to the Grand Tower Auction. And the Grand Tower Auction straight up requires proof of funds for people to be let in.
So the people on the ground floor of the auction hall, while they are a mixture of normal people and representatives from nations, are all still some of the richest people on the planet. And the people in the lower booths beneath the VIP booths the Class SS magicians and I are in are all even richer than them. With the vast majority of them being representatives or royalty from relatively bigger nations.
I glance to the side when several openings appear on the table next to me before refreshments including both food and drinks rise up onto the table from the openings. Then I just reach out and grab a glass of wine just to give me something to do as I continue looking out from my booth at the hall.
Only the VIP booths at the top of the hall have a privacy function towards everyone else. The booths on the second level only have privacy features against the people on the ground floor. Everyone on the same level as them and above can see who they are inside of their booths.
Thanks to that, I can easily recognize quite a few people scattered amongst those booths. Simply due to them visiting the Eternal Tower as delegates.
I even see the delegates who requested I kill that sea monster down there.
Anyway, after looking around for a little while long as the people in the room settle into their places, my gaze is drawn back to the center of the hall. Where a bunch of lightning begins to condense and crackle in place. All before the Mage of Storms emerges from within the lightning and declares, “I hereby announce the start of this part of the auction! The auction will begin with the Warrior advancement resources many of the great Warriors here have needed for their final preparations in advance of The Arcane Crowne!”
More bolts of lightning begin to strike all across the hall in an impressive display without harming anyone. Then the hall lights up so bright that everyone except for me has to close their eyes for a moment. During which time the Mage of Storms turns into lightning and enters one of the VIP booths, with the ground on the central platform opening up and letting a new platform rise up to enter the hall.
That would be a lot more impressive if I wasn’t watching the whole thing. Just seeing him vanish and the host appearing with the first item taking his place after a bright flash of lightning.
The host looks to be a young woman in her twenties or early thirties with long black hair held in a braid over her shoulder, and a long black gown dress. She also has dark affinity mana that I can sense flowing within her. Which she uses to combine with her overall aesthetic by spreading shadows around the host platform to cover the item.
Right as the light from the lightning begins to fade, the new host begins to speak, her voice echoing throughout the hall, “Welcome to the Grand Tower Auction of the year 2853 of the current era! My name is Roxanne, and I will be your host for this wonderful event!” The host’s smile grows wider at the sight of everyone’s gazes in the room turning towards her before she finishes her introduction, “Now let us begin this event with the most anticipated items by our lovely Arcane Crowne’s Warrior participants!”
