In a Private Room at the Grand Palace of DreamsYear 2853 | Month 6 | Day 26

“So it’s confirmed, then?” Ignitus Demertius, one of the two Seventh Stage Warriors, asks while standing on the balcony of his room. Not even turning around to look at his subordinate as he does so. “The new rules for The Undying Magician’s participation in the tournament?”

“It is as you suspected, My Lord,” one of the Royal Guards of the Empire declares while kneeling on the balcony a couple meters away from Ignitus with his head looking down at the ground. “A new victory condition has been implemented for any contestant facing The Undying Magician on account of his immortality. The Undying Magician, instead of having a medallion that detects fatal damage, blocks it, and teleports the contestant out of the ring, will have a medallion that will detect the amount of damage dealt to him. In order to win against the Undying Magician in the tournament, a contestant must deal enough damage to kill a Seventh Tier Warrior three times. With the assumption that the Seventh Tier Warrior fully recovered after each ‘death.’”

Ignitus taps his fingers on his sword’s handle where it’s sheathed at his hip. Then, after several seconds of silence, he says, “This is satisfactory.”

To defeat him, I simply have to deal enough damage, and it will be counted as my victory.

Everyone knows exactly why this new rule was added. There wouldn’t be any point in the tournament if The Undying Magician was the only one capable of winning.

And the tournament isn’t a competition to find out who would outlast the other.

At the same time, the devices made long ago for tournaments don’t work on The Undying Magician as they were made to detect how much damage the wearer’s body can survive, block it, and teleport them away. Officially declaring their opponent the victor in the process.

But The Undying Magician cannot die, and they have already tested the devices and found they will never activate when used by him.

Not because he can’t die, but because the devices can’t detect his spiritual blueprint to determine how much damage his body can handle.

“Additionally, the committee has developed several additions to the new medallion to make it indestructible,” the Royal Guard continues. “And The Undying Magician himself has long since developed special armored clothing that will transfer all of the damage dealt to his clothes to himself. His armored clothes also have a self-repair function added to them by several other magicians, so there will no longer be a need to worry about the accidental destruction of his clothes during the battle.”

Ignitus’ lips twitch at those words, but he feels mildly relieved either way. Since it would be awkward if The Undying Magician were indecently exposed on live television to the entire world during the tournament.

“You’ve done well,” Ignitus declares. “Go rest for now. Tell Ronmirus to keep an eye on the other competitors.”

“Understood, and thank you, My Lord,” the Royal Guard states before vanishing into a shadow.

Leaving the Seventh Stage Warrior alone once more.

Somewhere Else near the Grand Palace of DreamsYear 2853 | Month 6 | Day 26

“So those are the new rules,” Anastasia mutters. “If that’s the case, it doesn’t matter. As long as I can defeat him, I shall.”

“Of course, Star Sage,” one of her assistants says without any hesitation before leaving the room.

Anastasia Astra, the Class S astral affinity magician of the Sage’s Mountain, doesn’t feel the slightest bit intimidated by The Undying Magician. All because she is the Star Sage. The strongest Class S magician in the world.

She was worried before about how they would handle The Undying Magician in the tournament, but this manner of competing clears that worry entirely.

After all, The Undying Magician is still just a young man newly advanced to Class S with little understanding of his own affinities compared to the other Class S magicians. So if his immortality is taken out of play, Anastasia has no doubt she will easily defeat him.

And she’s not the only one feeling this way as numerous other magicians and Warriors competing feel the same way.

An immortal Undying Magician is an undefeatable opponent, especially with his vampiric strength. But an Undying Magician whose immortality is limited for tournament purposes is a minor opponent. One to look out for, but not especially worrying.

With that thought in mind, Anastasia and numerous other magicians begin their research on the competitors with other, more powerful magicians and Warriors.
