Aidan
I watch on in silence with my arms crossed as my voidlings swarm in to attack the large orc that is the boss of this dungeon. The voidling soldiers fire off void energy stingers at the orc while others are rushing into attack it, and the broodmothers in the back are producing more voidlings to replace the ones that are killed by the orc.
The battle continues raging in front of me for a while before the voidlings finally finish off the orc, putting an end to the dungeon entirely.
Alright. This test is going well.
Especially the combat broodmothers.
The idea of broodmothers immune to most damage going out to the battlefields to produce voidlings that can join the battle immediately is quite good. It worked very well.
I go ahead and grab the reward, which is pretty useless for me. Just a common item that I drain the source mana from before moving on and leaving the dungeon.
After that, I go ahead and clear a few other dungeons on my way back to Voidlight. Only to find a rather… unexpected sight when I arrive.
Why are there a bunch of zelbar corpses scattered across the area around the city…?
I can’t help but pause with my voidlings behind me as I watch tens of thousands of voidlings roaming around the area grabbing zelbar corpses and bringing them into the city.
Did the zelbar attack while I was in a dungeon? And if so, were they specifically waiting for me to enter a dungeon before attacking?
How many of them attacked? There are a lot of corpses here. More corpses here than there were zelbar attacking most of the other cities.
I purse my lips as different potential plans the zelbar could’ve done come to mind. The foremost amongst them being that they may have been attacking the human cities to distract me and spread out my voidlings.
That’s the one that makes the most sense.
I look around for a moment before going to find Rex. And the news I get from him is pretty much what I expected.
The zelbar decided to attack while around half of our forces were outside of the city dealing with the zelbar attacking other cities. But they underestimated both the number and power of my voidling forces. So they ended up losing and rushing to retreat after a fifth or so of their attacking numbers died.
With all of this happening a couple days ago. Which is why there aren’t actually as many zelbar corpses out here as their number of casualties would imply.
The voidlings have already moved a large number of them to the storage in the void.
As for why I’m only learning about this now? I spent almost my entire time in the dungeons until now, and the time I wasn’t in the dungeon, the zelbar apparently have been using some sort of legendary or unique item to block messages from being sent out.
These zelbar are becoming genuine problems at this point. I’m going to need to deal with them soon.
And it only gets worse with Rex’s next words.
“The scouts stationed around their hive have reported the zelbar making contact with the Orc King,” Rex states, making me narrow my eyes. “Ever since, orcs have been spotted within the hive.”
The orcs and zelbar working together…
That’s not what I was expecting. Both of those forces are extremely unfriendly towards other species.
Then again, they’re not very friendly to their own species either…
“Great One, the orcs and zelbar are both survivalist species,” Rex explains, seemingly understanding my thoughts from my expression. “Both sides have lost a major conflict against you, and they must have realized that our forces are growing too powerful to face on their own. Past experiences within the voidling’s knowledge have proven that both forces are willing to join together to eliminate a stronger foe before they betray each other.”
Hmm.
I guess they’re not stupid even if they’re cruel and arrogant.
“What are their numbers now,” I ask Rex while looking out from the top of the wall at the voidlings as they bring the zelbar corpses into the city. Taking them towards their storage area in the void.
Rex answers immediately, “Over the past five days since the Council Meeting, the orcs and zelbar have both grown their forces through assimilating the zelbar and orc cities on the planet. The zelbar now have nearly two million forces, however, they lost a quarter of a million during the battle and have been brought back down to one million seven hundred and fifty thousand forces. The orcs have brought their numbers up to two million during this time after their king went on a rampage to subdue the other orc cities.”
Which means they would have a combined force of three million seven hundred and fifty thousand.
“And how many voidlings do we have now?” I ask while crossing my arms and narrowing my eyes.
“The swarm has grown to three and a half million voidlings in this time,” Rex states without hesitation. “Unlike the zelbar, the orc commanders of the orc army are more powerful than the average voidling commander. However, the voidlings the Great One has evolved have been granted damage reflection, and the broodmothers the Great One has brilliantly created will more than make up for the lower numbers.”
Hmm.
“This war is going to cause trouble with the surrounding cities at this scale,” I mutter while thinking about it.
After all, this is a conflict between forces each with millions under their banners. I would be more surprised if it doesn’t affect the surrounding System Cities.
“That won’t be an issue, Great One,” Rex states out of nowhere, making me glance at him with a slight frown.
“What do you-” I begin, only to be cut off when a wave of System Messages appears before me.

Inter-City War Notice
A Small Scale War has been detected between the following three System Cities’ forces on Gaia:
Voidlight, led by the Void Crowne, Aidan Vale – 3.5 million forces
The First Hive of the Gaian Swarm, led by the Zelbar Queen, Vex’thara – 1.75 million forces
The King’s Fortress, led by the Orc King, Zryss the Fangsplitter – 2 million forces
Of the three forces, the Zelbar Queen and Orc King have been detected to be in an alliance against the Void Crowne. Thus the final scale of the war is as follows:
Voidlight – 3.5 million forces
Zelbar-Orc Alliance – 3.75 million forces
All forces between these two powers will be teleported to a special battlefield in two days, after the Leaderboards rewards are granted for the past week. They will then fight in a special war isolated from the rest of the planet to avoid additional casualties on the planet.
During this war, the winner will be decided by one of three methods.
The first method is to slay the leader of each of the three forces. One the leader of a force is slain, the forces under them will be transferred to the control of the one who slaid them. The Zelbar and Orc forces are counted separately under this, however, while their leaders may betray each other, their leaders may not attack each other to claim the other’s forces.
The second method is to slay over 80% of the other force’s numbers.
The third method is to obtain the surrender of the force’s leaders.

I stare blankly at the message for several seconds. Then I feel more than a little relief at the fact that it won’t be affecting the surrounding System Cities or my allies.
This will also make the war more straightforward.
The only matter I’m worried about is how the System will deal with other System Cities and dungeons during this time. Since we’ll all be sent into this special battlefield.
Doesn’t that mean the System City will be undefended then?
I frown at that thought before shaking my head.
The System will probably do something about that. And I can just ask Seraphyne or Rex about it.
I take a deep breath before asking both of them at the same time.
Or, rather, asking Rex about the war feature, and Seraphyne about any suggestions she may have for the war.
